If passed, two healthcare reform bills could mean more abortions at taxpayers' expense.
The two primary measures -- the Kennedy bill and the House Democratic leadership bill -- contain provisions that would represent the greatest expansion of abortion since the Supreme Court legalized it in 1973, according to Douglas Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee.
"These two bills contain multiple provisions that would result in federally mandated insurance coverage of abortion on demand, result in massive federal subsidies for abortion, result even in mandated creation of many new abortion clinics across the country," he explains.
Johnson adds the bills would nullify at least some state limitations on abortion. He concludes passage would result in an increase in abortions, but recalls the Obama administration promised to take steps to reduce them.
"And it's quite true that the majority of Americans do not want the government to be promoting abortion as a method of birth control -- but that is what is imbedded in these bills," Johnson notes.
According to Johnson, the pro-abortion movement hopes to smuggle the policies into law by using healthcare as a vehicle -- and there is a grave danger they will succeed, he laments, unless the public urges their elected representatives to vote against the measures.
On a party-line vote Wednesday, the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee passed the $600 billion Kennedy bill. Democratic lawmakers in both houses of Congress are pushing for debate and passage of the bills before the August recess.
Tony Blair today announced a partnership with Durham University as part of a new drive to create a global network of twelve leading research universities teaching Faith and Globalisation over the next two years.
Durham will become the third partner university, following Yale & the National University of Singapore. The course will develop greater understanding of the impact of faiths and cultures on the world and the inter-relationship between faith and globalisation.
Speaking at Durham University, Tony Blair announced that the faith foundation will focus on building and developing the Faith and Globalisation course which started at Yale - creating a tight network between the twelve partner universities, and ensuring that this is recognised globally as a leading teaching, research, and social action orientated initiative.
Specifically, Tony Blair issued an appeal for universities in the Gulf, India, China, Africa, Australia and South America to come forward and take on the Faith and Globalisation course.
The programme at Durham University is being funded by a new University donor programme and will be run by Durham University. It will bring together leading academics from across the faculties of humanities, social sciences and science to carry out global research that will help inform international policies in the future.
The initiative will draw on the University's strengths as a multi-cultural institution and its world class teaching and research in areas such a Theology and Religion and Government and International Affairs.
The programme ultimately aims to increase understanding of different faiths and cultures so people from a variety of backgrounds can work closely to tackle the cultural, economic, ethical and political challenges faced by a globalised world.
Tony Blair, who made the announcement as part of a lecture at Durham University, said: "I am delighted to be partnering with Durham. The purpose is to create a course that deals with these crucial issues of faith and globalisation, and takes people through them in a structured, informative and educative way.
"But I also want to take this further and establish a group of twelve universities worldwide, from Asia to Europe, from the Middle East to America, so that we can a network of real benefit, which works together to produce high quality research and publications while exploring these fascinating and fundamental questions of faith and globalisation."
Art's Commentary.....This item is like a great flashing red light warning that a World Church is soon to enter into union with a World Government. That is the exact scenario described in scripture for the tribulation period. It is startling that the man promoting this scenario is the leading candidate for the office of the powerful new Presidentcy of the EU (Revived Roman Empire). Out of this office it would seem that the Antichrist will surely come. This headline is screeming that the trumpet is soon to sound, ARE YOU READY?
DUBLIN, July 16 – Following the confiscation of livestock from Christian families earlier this month, officials in a village in Laos on Saturday (July 11) called a special meeting for all residents and announced that they had “banned the Christian faith in our village.” The chief of Katin village, along with village security, social and religious affairs officials, warned all 53 Christian residents that they should revert to worshiping local spirits in accordance with Lao tradition or risk losing all village rights and privileges – including their livestock and homes, according to advocacy group Human Rights Watch for Lao Religious Freedom (HRWLRF). The Katin village leader also declared that spirit worship was the only acceptable form of worship in the community, HRWLRF reported. Katin village is in Ta Oih district, Saravan Province. The previous Sunday (July 5), officials and residents confiscated one pig each from nine Christian families and slaughtered the animals in an effort to force them to renounce their faith. Officials said the seizure of the pigs – each worth the equivalent of six weeks’ salary for an average laborer in the area – was punishment for ignoring the order to abandon Christianity.
Israeli warships cross Red Sea in apparent signal to Tehran
JERUSALEM – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office refused to respond to a report today purporting to quote an Israeli defense official stating the recent deployment of warships across the Red Sea should be seen as serious preparation for an attack on Iran.
"It is not our policy to comment on such reports," Mark Regev, Netanyahu's spokesman, told WND.
Earlier this week, two Israel Navy gunboats openly sailed through the Suez Canal into the Red Sea with permission from Egypt.
"This is preparation that should be taken seriously. Israel is investing time in preparing itself for the complexity of an attack on Iran. These maneuvers are a message to Iran that Israel will follow up on its threats," the Times of London today quoted what it said was an Israeli defense official as saying.
The warship movements follow the passage last month of an Israeli Dolphin-class submarine through the canal, later returning the same way.
According to Israeli defense officials speaking to WND, the Dolphin was carrying out test drills. The officials said the submarine passed through the canal with permission from Egypt, even though the Egyptian government denied any permission was granted.
The Times today quoted an Israeli diplomat explaining the Jewish state has been bolstering its ties with certain Arab nations that are also threatened by Iran. The diplomat cited a "shared mutual distrust of Iran" between Israel and Egypt.
In a report denied by Netanyahu's office, the Times of London two weeks ago claimed Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli warplanes flying over the kingdom in any raid on Iran's nuclear sites.
The Times said Mossad director Meir Dagan had held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility.
"The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of Israel and Saudi Arabia," the newspaper quoted a diplomatic source as saying.
Art's Commentary.....An attack on Iran by Israel could precipitate a war and a time of serious unrest in the mideast that could set the stage for the antichrist to appear and introduce the false peace treaty. We are not setting a day or an hour, but Jesus said, "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, for your redemption draweth nigh", Luke 21:28. The hour of the rapture of the Church is drawing near. The signs are everywhere! If you are not saved, fall on your knees now and ask God to save you!
The NEA recently held its annual convention in San Diego, California, where members voted on two issues of importance to those involved in the culture war. One of those issues was whether the union would support same-gender marriage. According to Jeralee Smith, co-founder of the Conservative Educators Caucus, the resolution passed by roughly a two-thirds majority.
"There are quite a few items where the NEA absolutely puts its political muscle behind taking down any legislation in any state that they consider to be discriminatory to homosexuals," says Smith. "And some of the language in the resolution also hints that the NEA will try to take down the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA] on the federal level."
Smith told Baptist Press that when a representative of the Conservative Caucus spoke against the resolution and mentioned the words "marriage should be between a man and a woman," the speaker was booed.
Also up for a vote was a resolution for the NEA to take a "no position" stance on the issue of abortion. That proposal was voted down 61 percent to 39 percent.
During the meeting, the organization's retiring general counsel, Bob Chanin, complained that "conservative and right-wing bastards" are after the NEA and its state affiliates. Smith called that statement "refreshing honesty" on Chanin's part about how he feels about conservatives.
Art's Commentary....David described our day nearly 3000 years ago when he wrote by inspiration, "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his annointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and castaway their cords from us", Psalm 2:1-3. Today there is a move to reject what God commands in His Word, it seems to be manifesting itself all around us.
It is my firm conviction that an increase in the knowledge of God and his will is an impossibility until the supremacy of scripture is recognized. As one tradition after another is found to be in opposition to it, scripture is allowed to judge, and those traditions are relegated to the ecclesiastical wastebasket. I venture to say that any God-fearing priest who would read nothing but the Bible daily for one year, and read that thoughtfully, prayerfully, and penitently, determined to refuse everything he had learned not in agreement with it, would at the end of the twelve months have forever cast aside so many traditionary fables and would have found such great enlightenment and blessing, that he would be encouraged to continue to make the holy scriptures his one chief study. Thus he would be enabled to walk in peace and godliness in the path of the just which shines brighter unto the perfect day. And so full would be the divine instruction received that he would never miss the human traditions and ecclesiastical dogmas thus discarded, but would find every spiritual need met in the great storehouse of heavenly food found in the inerrant and God-breathed depository of light and truth, the once neglected Bible.

MADISON, Wis. — The nation's largest group of atheists and agnostics filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to block an architect from engraving "In God We Trust" and the Pledge of Allegiance at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington.
The Madison-based Freedom From Religion Foundation's lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in western Wisconsin, claims the taxpayer-funded engravings would be an unconstitutional endorsement of religion.
The House and Senate passed identical resolutions this month directing the Architect of the Capitol to engrave "In God We Trust" and the pledge in prominent places at the entrance for 3 million tourists who visit the Capitol each year.
The resolution came in response to critics who complained Congress spent $621 million on the new three-story underground center without paying respect to the nation's religious heritage. The center opened in December after years of construction.
The foundation is seeking a court order to stop the engravings, which the Congressional Budget Office estimates will cost less than $100,000.
"In God We Trust" has been the national motto since 1956 and has appeared on U.S. currency since 1957.
The lawsuit says both the motto and the words "under God" in the pledge were adopted during the Cold War as anti-communism measures. Engraving them at the entrance to the U.S. Capitol would discriminate against those who do not practice religion and unfairly promote a Judeo-Christian perspective, it says.
Members of Congress who supported the measure swiftly denounced the lawsuit.
"This lawsuit is another attempt by liberal activists to rewrite history and deny that America's Judeo-Christian heritage is an essential foundation stone of our great nation," said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.
Rep. Daniel Lungren, R-Calif., said he was expecting a lawsuit but called the claims "patently absurd."
The foundation also is challenging the constitutionality of the National Day of Prayer in federal court.
Vice President Joe Biden told people attending an AARP town hall meeting that unless the Democrat-supported health care plan becomes law the nation will go bankrupt and that the only way to avoid that fate is for the government to spend more money.
“And folks look, AARP knows and the people with me here today know, the president knows, and I know, that the status quo is simply not acceptable,” Biden said at the event on Thursday in Alexandria, Va. “It’s totally unacceptable. And it’s completely unsustainable. Even if we wanted to keep it the way we have it now. It can’t do it financially.”
“We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation,” Biden said.
“Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’” Biden said. “The answer is yes, that's what I’m telling you.”
Biden told the group that the Obama health plan will not eliminate people’s ability to choose their health care insurance and that people who cannot afford insurance will be covered by the plan.
“They’ll be a deal in there so there’s competition, so what you’ll have in there is you’ll have the ability to go in there and say, ‘Now look, this is the policy I want. This is the one,” Biden said.
“And those people who can’t afford to get in there, up to a certain income, we’re going to subsidize them, you get in there and we’ll help you pay for it,” Biden said.
Art's Commentary.....You do not have to be a rocket scientist to know that you cannot spend your way out of bankruptcy, you can only delay the inevitable. The amazing thing is that so many are blind to what is happening around them.
TEHRAN - Newly re-elected President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday his next government "would bring down the global arrogance," signaling a tougher approach by Tehran toward the West after last month's disputed election.
Ahmadinejad, in his first provincial trip after the June 12 presidential vote, said Iran's enemies had tried to interfere and foment aggression in the country, referring to mass opposition protests against the official election result.
The hardline president, who often rails against the West, said the Islamic Republic wanted "logic and negotiations" but that Western powers had insulted the Iranian nation and should apologize.
Iranian leaders often refer to the United States and its allies as the "global arrogance."
"As soon as the new government is established, with power and authority, ten times more than before, it will enter the global scene and will bring down the global arrogance," he told a big crowd in the northeastern city of Mashhad.
"They should wait as a new wave of revolutionary thinking ... from the Iranian nation is on the way and we will not allow the arrogant (powers) to even have one night of good sleep," Ahmadinejad said, according to state broadcaster IRIB.
Opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi, Ahmadinejad's main challenger in the election, says it was rigged in the incumbent's favor. The authorities reject charges of vote fraud.
Iran has accused Britain and the United States, which have criticised a crackdown on opposition protests, of interfering in its internal affairs. London and Washington reject the charge.
"In this recent election the enemy tried to bring the battlefront to the interior of this country," Ahmadinejad said.
"But I have told the enemies ... that this nation ... will strike you in the face so hard you will lose your way home," he said in comments translated by English-language Press TV.
He also voiced continued defiance in a row over Iran's disputed nuclear ambitions, saying major powers "will not be able to take away the smallest amount of Iran's rights."
Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful power purposes. Western countries suspect it is aimed at making bombs.
Editors Note.....It is seems inevitable that an attack on Iran will take place. It's the destruction of Iran's nuclear facilities or the destruction of Israel and other nations Iran opposes. It is amazing that Israel is the only one willing to carry it out. It also seems the enemies of Israel are willing to permit Israel to do it, but the price will be great compromise by Israel, the yielding up much of her promised land. This compromise will bring the chastening of God upon Israel.
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates believes that Iran's nuclear program is the greatest current threat to global security.
"Iran is the one that concerns me the most because there don't seem to be good options (or a scenario) where one can have any optimism that good options will be found," Gates told the Economic Club of Chicago.
He bewailed the international community's inability to affect Iran's apparent determination to seek a nuclear weapon.
"All of the outcomes are negative," he continued. "If they achieve one, the possibility of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East is very, very real.
"If something is done to prevent them from getting one, the consequences of that are completely unpredictable and frankly, very bad."
Gates lamented that he hadn't been able to persuade other nations, particularly Russia, that the Iranian nuclear issue did not simply just threaten the United States, AFP reported.
"Iran's going to have the capability to deliver nuclear weapons to the people in their region a lot sooner than they're going to have the capability to deliver them to us," he added.
