Transgenderism & the Emperor's New Clothes

Nothing describes the social pressure to conform better than Hans Christian Andersen's parable, "The Emperor's New Clothes."

Do you remember it? An emperor hires two weavers who claim they can make a garment so fine it's only visible to the very wise. Of course, they end up not making any clothes at all. They pocket the emperor's money and send him on procession through the city naked.

No one--not even the emperor himself--dares to say anything, thinking if they do, it means they're fools.  Only a child is willing to shout out, "The emperor is naked!"

Each week, I come across a headline that makes me think, "Finally! This has got to be our naked emperor moment. Somebody is going to call this out."

Last week, for instance, the spokeswoman for a British doula association was forced to resign after reminding her social media followers that people who have wombs are... women.

Commenting on a health awareness campaign that encouraged "everyone aged 25-64 with a cervix" to get screened for cancer, the longtime birth coach wrote, "I am not a 'cervix owner .  .  .' I am a woman: an adult human female."

In response, angry transgender activists barraged Doula UK with complaints, ultimately driving someone willing to say the obvious out of her job.

Honestly, I just cannot imagine that the majority of people really want to live in a world where birth coaches aren't allowed to call women, "women." In fact, it may be that we are ready to put at least some limits on the men who demand all the rights and privileges of women.

For example, a biological man who filed complaints against Vancouver beauty salons because they wouldn't wax his private area was just told by a Canadian court that he doesn't have a right to force female beauticians to touch him.

Then there's the ongoing custody battle over a 7-year-old Texas boy whose mother is convinced he's really a she and therefore should dress, live, and medically transition into girlhood. Since we last talked about this story on "BreakPoint This Week," a Dallas judge refused to grant the mother sole custody--a big improvement over what the jury had recommended.

And, resistance is growing in the academy, too. A recent essay at The American Mind describes how a growing group of radical feminists are bravely taking on the demands of transgender activists, having realized that their very existence as women is threatened by increasingly unrealistic demands. In response, they've earned a derogatory nickname: "TERF's" which stands for "Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists."

Camille Paglia--a hard-left feminist, lesbian professor--has been mercilessly attacked for refusing to accept the claim that men who feel like women really are women.

Paglia and other "gender critical" feminists think there's something essential to biological womanhood that no man can never appropriate, claim or understand - no matter how much makeup, hormone therapy, or surgery he endures.

As she told the Weekly Standard in 2017: "The cold biological truth is sex changes are impossible. Every single cell of the human body remains coded with one's birth gender for life."

It sounds like something a conservative Christian would say.

The very fact that we now find ourselves as Christians lining up with radical feminists makes me wonder if we are, in fact, approaching a turning point. After all, the stakes are only getting higher. Sports championships that belong to women are already being given to men.

Will scholarships designated for women be taken by men? And what will happen when a federal small business grant program for women entrepreneurs is claimed by a man? Or when women no longer are able to represent their country in the Olympics because men claim all of the spots on their team?

We will see whether there's a limit to what people will sit back and take. I suspect there is. After all, the emperor just can't walk around naked forever.

That Which is Another's - Luke 16:12

Our Lord is speaking of money and its use. 1. He describes money. - It is so associated with unrighteousness that He speaks of it as the unrighteous mammon. It was as though the inveterate money-maker, who will get money at all costs, was an idolater, prostrating himself daily in the temple of the heathen deity who bore that name. In His judgment, also, it is a very little thing (Luke 16:10). We only know how little when we compare it with the immortal qualities of a lowly character. At least, it is not the true riches (Luke 16:11). Moreover, it is not our own-it is dearly another's - God's (Luke 16:12). We have nothing that we have not received.

2. He indicates the main use of money. - It is God's; but He puts it into our hands to watch the use we will make of it, before He entrusts to us the true riches of eternity - just as you will test a child with a toy watch before you dare place in his hands a real one. If he is destructive of the one, you hesitate to hand him the other; whilst if he is careful, you feel able to consign to his care some family heirloom. So God is testing men by giving them money that He may know how far to trust them in the mart of the New Jerusalem.

3. He arouses us to fidelity - Care for God's interests as much as the wasteful and unfaithful steward cared for his own. He used his master's money to secure a welcome to the debtor's houses when he lost his situation. But God has so arranged it, that if you use His money aright, you shall not only win His approbation, but His interests will be so coincident with yours, that when the world fades from view, those whom you have helped for God's sake shall welcome you to heaven.

Space Wars: Satellite Warfare Could be America's Achilles Heel

When the first Star Wars movie was released back in the late 70's, audiences imagined intergalactic battles taking place at a time far in the future - possibly a full century into the future.

No one could have predicted technology would improve at such an incredible rate in the decades to follow. Here we are approaching 2020 and as the last Star Wars movie approaches it's release - we are reminded that a "star war" is a very real possibility.

Much of the technological advantage enjoyed by the United States and other world powers is owed to the use of satellites.

Troop movements can be precisely coordinated with GPS, drones can be flown from bunkers on the other side of the globe, battlefield commanders can communicate over vast distances and high-resolution cameras can provide insight into enemy positions.

We have become so dependent upon satellite technologies that without them it would be fair to say we would be "flying blind" both figuratively and literally. Some experts have even warned that our dependence upon them has created an Achilles heel due to their potential vulnerability to our adversaries.

Steve Isakowitz, CEO of The Aerospace Corp., a government-funded think tank that serves as the military's leading adviser on space said the U.S. can no longer afford to take its dominance for granted.

"That supremacy in space has enabled us to have the world's greatest war-fighting capability ... whether it is our soldiers on the field, our drones that fly overhead, our bombers that travel around the world, intelligence we collect," he told POLITICO. "More and more every day, literally, we become more dependent on it.

"And our adversaries know that."  It is the old error of having all one's eggs in one basket.

Air Force Gen. John W. Raymond, commander of the Pentagon's new Space Command, said last week that the threat of attacks against vital American satellites is real.

"I can tell you from my perspective, the scope, scale and complexity of that threat is alive and well and very concerning," Gen. Raymond told an audience Nov. 18 at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

A previous report by the Department of Defense warned that if the U.S. is to avoid a 'Space Pearl Harbor,' it needs to take seriously the possibility of an attack on the U.S. space system.

Clearly, any nation that can destroy its opponent's satellites gains a considerable advantage, and that is exactly what Russia and China are now preparing to do.

The United States is deeply concerned that Russian movements in space indicate the country is building an offensive military space force that could knock out American satellites.

Assistant secretary for arms control, Yleem Poblete, categorized the developments as both "unprecedented" and "very abnormal" as Russia develops both a combat laser system and specialized missiles that can be launched from an aircraft mid-flight to destroy American satellites.

Russia is also reported to have launched an orbital kinetic kill vehicle, a sort of kamikaze satellite, known as the Kosmos 2499.

Already traveling at incredible speeds, the satellite would target American satellites in orbit and obliterate them with a simple collision.

The Chinese military's Joint Staff in 2018 said it's goal is to achieve "space superiority" -- controlling space without interference from ground-based or space-based threats.

To that affect, China has launched its own satellite killer, one equipped with grappling arms, called the Shiyan. Other weapons pulled from the pages of science fiction include lasers and magnets.

The Chinese Shiyan satellite has performed at least one successful capture using its grappling arm, capable of throwing other satellites out of orbit or stripping them of their useful parts.

China is even planning a permanent base on the moon as part of it's dual military and commercial program.

Russia has also been spotted using what has been dubbed 2014-28E, a rather enigmatic name for a secret military satellite. Launched clandestinely along with three Russian communication satellites, it was at first believed to be simply debris resulting from the launch.

When the object began to change orbit however, its propulsion capabilities became apparent. Russia has kept quiet about the craft but many believe it to another example of an erstwhile Soviet-era program called Istrebeitel Sputnik, or Satellite Fighter.

These are not proposals or prototypes of what Russia and China could launch, they are offensive satellites already orbiting the Earth with a singular purpose: removing American satellites from above the field of battle.

Gen. Raymond, commander of the Pentagon's new Space Command,  disclosed during his Senate nomination hearing in June for the first time that the Pentagon is working on "counterspace weapons" to conduct offensive and defense military operations in space.

He further warned "China is pursuing a full spectrum of threats to our space capabilities, including reversible jamming, directed energy weapons, cyber threats, orbital threats, and kinetic energy threats from ground-based missiles.

Rick Fisher, senior fellow at the International Assessment and Strategy Center, warns that the biggest key to thwarting Chinese dominance in space will be denying Beijing control over the moon and the region of space between it and the Earth.

"If America fails to beat China back to the moon to secure commanding positions that can help deter conflict, we are then condemning our country and military forces to many future wars with China," Mr. Fisher said.
