Whatsoever Parteth the Hoof and Cheweth the Cud - Leviticus 11:3
Nov 17th, 2019
Morning Meditation
F. B. Meyer
Categories: Commentary;Inspirational;Book Study

The animals, in which these two characteristics met, were reckoned clean, and therefore fit for food. It is certain that the minute particularity of these words has some further reference than to the diet of Israel, important though that was, or to accentuate with every meal the necessity of their being a separate people. We, at least, may gather this lesson, that in our daily experience we must combine meditation and separation.

Meditation. - The cattle do not simply browse on the pastures, but they lie down to chew the cud. It is not enough to peruse our allotted Scripture portion; we must ruminate upon it, comparing spiritual things with spiritual, and scripture with scripture. The Holy Ghost will take of the things of Christ and show them unto us, and He will bring all things to our remembrance.

Separation. - "Whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God." "The Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." We have not meditated to good purpose unless we have felt its keen edge. Detachment from the world must follow on true attachment to Christ. Love to Naomi will draw Ruth from Moab across the Jordan.

The two must be combined. - The swine divideth the hoof, but cheweth not the cud, and was therefore unclean. A man may profess to love his Bible, but the supreme test is his daily separation from evil. On the other hand, our daily life ought to emanate, not from without, which is Pharisaism, but from within, where we chew the cud of holy meditation.

Finnish Christian Democratic MP, former Minister of the Interior Päivi Räsänen is being subjected to pretrial investigation by the Finnish Police on account of suspected incitement against sexual and gender minorities.

The matter concerns a critical comment she made on social media of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland's (ELCF) official participation in the Helsinki Pride event earlier in the summer.

On 17 June, Päivi Räsänen posted a photo of Romans 1:24-27 from the New Testament, that describes same-sex relationships as "shameful".

Räsänen explained why she posted the remarks online: "When praying, I got convinced that it is not my time now to jump out of the sinking boat as a parable of the Church, but to try to wake up the sleeping ones in the Church in that boat. And that's why I decided to write to social media."

Räsänen risks being accused under Section 10 of the Criminal Code of Finland for "ethnic agitation". A fine or prison are contemplated for this crime.

In the attached post, she criticised Finland's largest church body's announcement to become an official partner of Helsinki Pride 2019, asking, "How can the church's doctrinal foundation, the Bible, be compatible with the lifting up of shame and sin as a subject of pride?"

Räsänen, like some 69% of Finns, is herself a member of the ELCF and married to an ELCF pastor.

She is well known in the country for her defence of traditional Christian views on ethical issues such as abortion, euthanasia and marriage that are often more conservative than those of the Lutheran Church's official leadership.

Officially, the Evangelical Luterhan Church of Finland's Church Order, ratified by the Finnish Parliament, states that it "confesses that Christian faith which is based on the Holy Word of God, the prophetic and apostolic books of the Old and the New Testament" and the Lutheran confessional writings of the 16th century.

The ELCF is called a "national church" and plays an active role in the public sphere and has the right to collect church tax from its membership that is largely secularised but contains an active minority of conservative 'revival movements'.

Its membership has been on the decline recently by between 1 and 2 per cent points per year. In 2010, some 80,000 Finns quit the church body, most blaming MP Räsänen's participation and expression of traditional views in a TV debate on gender neutral marriage.

Räsänen's minority party, the Christian Democrats, currently hold 5 seats in the 200-seat Finnish Parliament.

If convicted, Räsänen case would set a Finnish precedent that could impact the freedom of speech of Christians throughout the country.

"It is difficult to understand what is now happening in my home country, but I am grateful that so many Christians have been woken to pray for our nation".

Räsänen also tweeted, "I am concerned if quoting the Bible is considered even 'slightly' illegal. I hope this won't lead to self-censorship among Christians. Rom. 1:24-27".

Cair's Goal: 30 Islamists Elected to Congress

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) recently held its 25th Annual Gala in Washington, D.C, in which CAIR's executive director announced a goal of pushing more Islamists into Congress.

As the Investigative Project on Terrorism reports, CAIR's executive director Nihad Awad shares the "formula" he believes will secure Islamists greater political power:

"A strong CAIR equals a strong community. A strong community will produce a strong and confident and successful Muslim ... "So I'm telling you tonight we are going to work in the next years, inshallah (God willing], to elect at least 30 Muslims in the Congress. This number is equivalent to our size and our potential as American Muslims. Including at least two U.S. senator Muslims."

In addition, Awad envisions Muslim judges, including a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, along with an Islamist extension of Hollywood.

No matter that Awad got his numbers wrong, this has been the Islamist agenda since at least the 2000s, when I heard the same professional targets outlined at national conventions. But as Middle East Forum's Daniel Pipes wrote in 2003, it goes further.

Pipes documents how, in 1998, CAIR's Chairman Omar M. Ahmad told a crowd of Muslims in California: "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant."

In 2008, I heard this message echoed at a southern California mosque by Imam Siraj Wahhaj at an event sponsored by the Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA), where Wahhaj said:

"There is no America. There is only Islam."

None of these views have been clandestine. Over the years the message has been consistent. What has changed is that the Islamist candidates they produce are more vocal about exactly which interests they represent.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's support of the Hamas terror group and the anti-Semitic BDS movement against Israel is the most recent demonstration of that.

6′5″ Male Wins Girls' Running Event, Named 'woman of the Week'

For some college students, it's a parody that hits way too close to home. When the Babylon Bee ran a satirical news story about a motorcyclist identifying as a bicyclist to set a new record, a group of runners at the Big Sky Conference understood all too well. In their conference, boys don't just compete as girls -- they get honored for it!

Two years ago, Jonathan Eastwood "dominated" the men's competition. In 2019, he's dominating something else: the women's field. Jonathan, who now goes by "June," "finished second in a field of 204 runners at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational" and "helped the University of Montana finish seventh as a team." For that, school officials decided, he's been named the "Women's Cross-Country Athlete of the Week," edging out eight other actual females for the title.

"Not surprisingly," Bill Zwerger noticed, the six-foot, five inch male "fared quite well against his weaker and slower female competitors this season, finishing first at the U of Montana's Invitational and second (by one second!) at the most recent Bronco Invitational.

But that's only to be expected, seeing that he was a top runner ... for the U of M Grizzlie's men X-C and track and field teams as recently as 2017. I have the sneaking suspicion that his latest second-place finish was due to him 'letting off the gas' toward the end of the race, seeking to minimize the negative publicity his winning yet again would have garnered, along with the outrage his female opponents must feel in having a male win every race against them."

When the College Fix contacted the university, they asked why the school didn't disclose the fact that June identifies as a transgender. Spokesman Joel Carlson insisted there "was no subtext." Good luck convincing the rest of the sport, which is struggling to survive this fatal infusion of political correctness. Even now, the NCAA has no answers for girls' track, admitting, "The NCAA does not have a maximum testosterone level for its current policy. The current policy is being reviewed by our membership."

In the meantime, women's high school and college programs are desperately trying to cope as girls lose more races, team eligibility, and scholarships to biological men. Girls like Selena Soule have been adamant that they just want a fair shot. But that's virtually impossible now, she says, in an unlevel playing field.

In her complaint to the Department of Education, she argues that women's sports can't compete in an age when biological men can line up and take her trophies. In Connecticut, where she competes, the reality is particularly harsh. The competition board allows boys to race against girls, even without undergoing any sort of hormone therapy.

Olympians like Sharron Davies are furious that the standards are so low now that men can compete against women "no surgery required ... no hormones ... no medical diagnosis ... just self-ID and reduced testosterone to a level [still] x5 the highest average (98 percent) of [real] females." It's "madness!" she argues.

The whole reason we have men and women's sports, she points out, is "because we are biologically different. Performance 100 percent confirms that. The reason steroids (including testosterone) are on the banned list is because using them give[s] you an advantage."

And yet, the extinction of women's sports -- and the uniqueness of women in general -- is exactly what the Democratic Party is championing. Under the radical Equality Act passed by the House, every school would be forced to accept men like June into girls' athletics. It's a policy so near and dear to the 2020 candidates that Joe Biden promised that if he was elected, "[the Equality Act] will be the first thing I ask to be done."

If there is a silver lining to this politically correct lunacy, it's that more people are starting to see the quandary that's created by policies and decision that aren't based in anatomical realities but emotional whims. If biological sex doesn't matter in sports, where does it matter? Good question.

One that most liberals can't seem to answer. Members from both sides of the aisle -- especially those who claim to be pro-woman and pro-children -- need to stop this devastating legislation. The future of women's rights, privacy, protection and athletic potential depends on it.
