The G - 7 Abandons the Dollar

The greenback fell further after the G-7 would not come to the rescue

The Group of Seven will let the dollar fall.

The heated climate before the Istanbul meeting led some to expect global policymakers to take a stand, but despite the strong tone, Andrew Wilkinson, senior market analyst at Interactive Brokers, said it was short on action. "It invites investors to test the dollar's lines of resistance in order to see what response, if any, might be forthcoming in the event of a further fall in the value of the dollar," Wilkinson said.

The dollar's loss of value over the past six months has been a cause for concern for the world's financial chief's, Wilkinson said, and reasonably so because the greenback's instability threatens financial markets and economies. (See "Playing The Downward Dollar." and "Harrison Sees A Dollar Boom.")

"Many currency traders were braced for some hint of intervention to prevail from this meeting," Wilkinson said, "especially given several verbal warnings or complaints from central bankers and politicians who had warned against dollar weakness."

The problem with intervention is that it would only be partially effective, especially if the U.S. isn't on board. The Treasury Department would never admit this, but for the time being it's in the country's interest to keep its currency low because it stimulates exports for the economy's manufacturing base and lowers the value of the debt that the Treasury is piling up.

Temple Mount Tensions Rise; Fatah, Hamas Call Muslims to Act

Thousands of police officers have deployed in Jerusalem Friday in advance of Muslim prayers on the Temple Mount. Police are on high alert following a week in which Muslims rioted in and around Jerusalem, as Muslim and Arab leaders accused Israel of attempting to harm the al-Aksa Mosque atop the Mount.

In an attempt to reduce the chance of riots, police have limited access to the Temple Mount to Muslims only - only females, or men who are under age 18 or over 50. In addition, only those with Israeli or Jerusalem identity cards will be allowed in, while foreign Muslims will be told to pray elsewhere.

Tensions remained high on Thursday. While relative quiet was maintained in Jerusalem's Old City, attacks on Jews were reported in the nearby neighborhood of Mei Shiloach (Silwan) and across Judea and Samaria.

Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Movement call to 'Defend Al-Aksa'
As Israel attempts to reduce tensions, Hamas, Fatah and the Israel-based Islamic Movement have each called on Muslims to “defend al-Aksa.” Hamas declared Friday a “Day of Rage” and called on followers to protest, while Fatah called for a general strike on Friday on behalf of the al-Aksa mosque.

Fatah, the party of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, accused Israel of working with “Jewish extremists” by allowing them to enter the Temple Mount compound.

The Islamic Movement, an Israel-based Muslim organization that does not recognize Israel, has called for Israeli Muslims to arrive in Jerusalem for Friday prayers, and to ignore police limitations on the number or age of worshippers to be allowed in.

UN Called to Intervene
The Palestinian Authority has called on the United Nations to intervene in Jerusalem in order to prevent Israel from taking action regarding the Al-Aksa Mosque on the Temple Mount. PA officials, along with senior members of Fatah and Hamas, have accused Israel of planning to allow religious Jews increased access to the Mount.

PA minister Riyad al-Maliki relayed the request to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday during a visit to New York. “I informed him of the escalation of Israel's policy against Palestinians and against the al-Aksa Mosque,” he told AFP.

The PA and Muslim leaders have accused Israel of sparking Muslim riots in and around Jerusalem by allowing religious Jews – described in PA media as “extremist settlers” - to visit the Temple Mount.

Peace An Illusion, Says Israel Fm

Israel's foreign minister has said there is no chance of an early solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and told people to "learn to live with it".

Avigdor Lieberman does not lead Israeli peace negotiations, but his statement casts a pall over latest US diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations.

Envoy George Mitchell is in the region, spearheading Obama administration efforts to relaunch negotiations.

Talks are stalled over the issue of Jewish settlements on occupied land.

Mr Mitchell is due to meet Mr Lieberman and Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Friday.

Reports quote US officials saying the visit was unlikely to conclude with a resumption of talks.

But the envoy said before a meeting with Israel's president: "We're going to continue with our efforts to achieve an early relaunch of negotiations... because we believe that's an essential step toward achieving the comprehensive peace."

In a radio interview, Mr Lieberman said people who thought Israel and the Palestinians could reach a deal "do not understand reality and are sowing illusions".

"We have to be realistic - we will not be able to reach agreement on core and emotional subjects like Jerusalem and the right of return (of Palestinian refugees0," he said.

"I am going to say very clearly - there are conflicts that have not been completely solved and people have learned to live with it, like Cyprus."

His suggestion was a long-term interim deal to ensure prosperity, security and stability and leave tough questions until later.

Policy proposal

Mr Lieberman's comments are broadly in line with a policy proposal from within the Israeli foreign ministry leaked to the Israeli press on Thursday.

The document, which the BBC has seen, says: "Creating expectations that a comprehensive solution to the conflict can be reached might lead again to disappointment and frustration that will sour our relations with the US and Europe, and cause a violent reaction among the Palestinians.

"We can reach a interim agreement between the sides without solving the core issues such as Jerusalem, right of return and borders - that is the maximum which realistically could be attained and it's very important to convince the US and Europe of this."

The Foreign Ministry said the reports about the policy proposal were "partial leaks from internal documents" and the leaks were regrettable.

It said Mr Lieberman had "requested a survey of existing policy and possible recommendations" as part of a "comprehensive discussion on Israel's foreign policy".

Stalled talks

The Obama administration has been struggling for months to pressure Israel to freeze settlement construction on occupied land, a key Palestinian demand for restarting talks.

Israel has countenanced a temporary limit on construction in the West Bank, but not in occupied East Jerusalem.

The fate of East Jerusalem and Palestinian refugees hase not been the subject of the latest peace efforts.

Palestinians and Arab states say there must be a just and fair solution to these issues, while successive Israel governments have sought to keep all of Jerusalem under their control and argued that a right of return for Palestinian refugees would mean the end of the Jewish majority in Israel.

President Barack Obama called the refugees' situation "intolerable" but has not backed their right of return.

Jerusalem in recent days has been the scene of rising tensions and sporadic clashes, focused on access to the al-Aqsa mosque compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, a flashpoint site in the Old City

Barack Obama Adviser Says Sharia Law is Misunderstood

President Barack Obama's adviser on Muslim affairs, Dalia Mogahed, has provoked controversy by appearing on a British television show hosted by a member of an extremist group to talk about Sharia Law.

President Barack Obama's adviser on Muslim affairs, Dalia Mogahed, has provoked controversy by appearing on a British television show hosted by a member of an extremist group to talk about Sharia Law.

Miss Mogahed, appointed to the President's Council on Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships, said the Western view of Sharia was "oversimplified" and the majority of women around the world associate it with "gender justice".

The White House adviser made the remarks on a London-based TV discussion programme hosted by Ibtihal Bsis, a member of the extremist Hizb ut Tahrir party.

The group believes in the non-violent destruction of Western democracy and the creation of an Islamic state under Sharia Law across the world.

Miss Mogahed appeared alongside Hizb ut Tahrir's national women's officer, Nazreen Nawaz.

During the 45-minute discussion, on the Islam Channel programme Muslimah Dilemma earlier this week, the two members of the group made repeated attacks on secular "man-made law" and the West's "lethal cocktail of liberty and capitalism".

They called for Sharia Law to be "the source of legislation" and said that women should not be "permitted to hold a position of leadership in government".

Miss Mogahed made no challenge to these demands and said that "promiscuity" and the "breakdown of traditional values" were what Muslims admired least about the West.

She said: "I think the reason so many women support Sharia is because they have a very different understanding of sharia than the common perception in Western media.

"The majority of women around the world associate gender justice, or justice for women, with sharia compliance.

"The portrayal of Sharia has been oversimplified in many cases."

Sharia in its broadest sense is a religious code for living, which decrees such matters as fasting and dressing modestly. However, it has also been interpreted as requiring the separation of men and women.

It also includes the controversial "Hadd offences", crimes with specific penalties set by the Koran and the sayings of the prophet Mohammed. These include death by stoning for adultery and homosexuality and the removal of a hand for theft.

Miss Mogahed admitted that even many Muslims associated Sharia with "maximum criminal punishments" and "laws that... to many people seem unequal to women," but added: "Part of the reason that there is this perception of Sharia is because Sharia is not well understood and Islam as a faith is not well understood."

The video of the broadcast has now been prominently posted on the front page of Hizb ut Tahrir's website.

Miss Mogahed, who was born in Egypt and moved to America at the age of five, is the first veiled Muslim woman to serve in the White House. Her appointment was seen as a sign of the Obama administration's determination to reach out to the Muslim world.

She is also the executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, a project which aims to scientifically sample public opinion in the Muslim world.

During this week's broadcast, she described her White House role as "to convey... to the President and other public officials what it is Muslims want."

An Iranian official says his country will blow up the heart of Israel

A top official with Iran's most powerful military force, the Revolutionary Guard, says that Iran will blow up the heart of Israel if US or Israeli missiles land in Iran. This latest statement by Iranian officials comes on the heels of similar remarks made by Iran's Deputy Army Chief last march warning that his country will eliminate Israel if it attacks the Islamic republic.

The army chief also said that Israel was very vulnerable and he dismissed allegations that Iran was worried about any Israeli maneuvers or preemptive strike against Iran's nuclear program.

Jimmy's Prophetic Prospective on the News

The threat by Iran to blow up the heart of Israel is another threat to the Jewish state that was predicted thousands of years ago in Bible prophecy.

The latest threat to blow up the heart of Israel is only one of many coming from the present Iranian regime. Iran's Prime Minister Ahmadinejad's call for Israel to be wiped off the Earth has been heard around the world and is unprecedented among world leaders. To have a nation's leadership threaten the existence of another nation with its total elimination should have been immediately challenged by all world leaders. Instead, most world leaders want to sit and talk with the political and military of the nation threatening to take such a horrific action.

Any student of Bible prophecy however should not be surprised with the radical rhetoric and possible dastardly actions. The ancient Jewish prophets said that Israel would be under attack fighting for its very existence. Daniel and Ezekiel mentioned an alignment of nations that will try to eliminate Israel (Daniel 11 and Ezekiel 38). The prophet Joel wrote of a mighty militia being formed to attack Israel as well (Joel 2:3-4). John the Revelator revealed that even the angelic world be unleashed to try and destroy the Jewish people in the last days (Revelation 12:13-17). Satan knows that if he can eliminate the Jewish people God then fails to keep His promises of a Jewish people and a Jewish nation forever.

Iran's most recent threat to blow up the heart of Israel is indeed evidence that Bible prophecy will be fulfilled.

Al - Qaida Could Attack from Within U.S.

Alarm grows as recruiting rises, operatives smuggled in

The next al-Qaida attack on the United States could come from within, with recruiting for jihadists on the rise and the terror organization continuing to smuggle operatives across international borders, experts confirm.

The recent arrests of terror suspects in Denver, where Najibullah Zazi is suspected of trying to orchestrate an attack on New York City, reveals just how imminent is the danger.

In another new case, Hosam Smadi was arrested for allegedly trying to blow up a Dallas skyscraper. Authorities allege he planted a bomb and tried to ignite it, but there was no damage because the device was faked by undercover FBI agents posing as members of an al-Qaida sleeper cell.

Terror analyst and scholar Brigitte Gabriel reports that al-Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood actively are recruiting operatives in the United States and Canada.

Further, she says, "The Latin American Gang MS 13 is actively working with terrorist organizations such as al-Qaida to smuggle terrorists into our country."

"Al-Qaida is paying between $25,000 and $50,000 per terrorist to be smuggled through the Mexican border. Hezbollah and Hamas are paying about $10,000 per head," she said.

"Sources in the FBI believe these terrorists are here in America raising funds and working on logistics, waiting for the opportunity to strike within the United States. Many of them have received training in Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan," said Gabriel.

The terrorism research group Nine Eleven-Finding Answers says one case developed when Somali-born Seattle resident Ruben Shumpert joined a jihad movement, eventually changed his name to Amir Abdul Muhaimeen and made a video about his conversion.

Multiple reports also have documented the flood of cases in Minneapolis where about 20 young Somali-born men were recruited by area imams and later turned up in Somalia fighting jihad. At least one died in a suicide bombing in Somalia.

Lewiston, Maine, also has a significant Somali population, and city manager Phil Nadeau says recruiting may be going on there.

"It probably is," he said.

The potential for jihad recruiting in Lewiston and Boston Somali communities already has caught the attention of the Boston FBI.

A bureau source, who did not want to be identified, said the agency is talking with members of the Somali community in Lewiston and Boston, and confirmed it is an effort to prevent a situation such as the one that developed in Minneapolis.

The recruits aren’t only coming from the Somalis.

Steven Emerson, with the Investigative Project on Terrorism, says the August arrest of American jihadist Daniel Patrick Boyd in North Carolina is part of the big picture.

At the time of his arrest, Boyd’s car was full of weapons, military manuals, militant jihadi literature and a number of articles on the 9/11 attacks.

"In terms of what I call the stealth jihad – the secret (and mostly legal) efforts inside the country by radical Muslim groups to infiltrate the government, Congress, media and intelligentsia – it is definitely the Muslim Brotherhood,” Emerson said.

Many Islamic organizations in the U.S. also link themselves openly to the Brotherhood.

Robert Spencer, a scholar on Islam and terrorism and the publisher of the Jihad Watch website, says the recruitment strategy is simple.

"The recruiter appeals to the young men knowing that the American likely doesn't know much about Islam," he explained. "They say this is a religion that wants peace and they don't tell the young man about the violence.

"The approach taken by the recruiter is that the recruiter does a 'bait and switch' gradualism that eventually leads to the violent teachings of Islam," he said.

Gabriel said such recruits then simply wait for an opportunity.
