"Continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" - 2 Tim. 3:14,15

Timothy had been instructed carefully by his godly Jewish mother and grandmother (1:5). So when he heard the gospel he was ready to receive it in all simplicity. Paul exhorts him to continue in the study of and obedience to the sacred writings of the Old testament, which had been the means of preparing his heart for the gospel message.

It is a great thing to learn the Word of God in the family circle. Timothy's mother had given heed to the commandments regarding this, as in Deut. 6. Teaching a child the truth of Scripture is like placing kindling and fuel in order. Then when the match is struck, it bursts into a flame. So Timothy's heart and mind had ben stored with the Word. Paul's preaching brought definite conviction and decision, and so Timothy was made "wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus". - H. A. Ironside

'KASSAM COMMUNITIES' CONTINUE TO GROW
Kassam rockets may be falling on the southern communities in the Negev, but people are still moving into area. In the past year alone, more than 120 families have moved into these “kassam communities” while only few have left the region.

“There are no available rooms on any kibbutz or moshav,” said Haim Yellin, head of Eshkol Regional Council. “There are no rooms on the kibbutzim for the students of Sapir College. People are actually fighting for apartments. Even if people sometimes threaten they will leave, they then stop for a minute, think twice about it and realize that in spite of everything, you can live a very good life here.”

Despite the falling rockets, communities in the south are declaring full occupancy. Students are calling on the government to establish new communities in the region because vacancy is full and people refuse to leave.

“This is my home,” Amit explained, “Even if the security situation here is dangerous, I feel like this is the safest place in the world. My children have learned to live with the kassams.”

ATOM-SMASHING LAB SAYS EXPERIMENT TO START END-JUNE

GENEVA (AFP) — European particle physics laboratory CERN is set to launch its gigantic experiment which hopes to throw light on the origins of the universe within a month, the laboratory's head said Tuesday.

If things go according to plan, the greatest experiment in the history of particle physics could unveil a sub-atomic component, the Higgs Boson, known as "the God Particle."

The "Higgs," named after the eminent British physicist, Peter Higgs, who first proposed it in 1964, would fill a gaping hole in the benchmark theory for understanding the physical cosmos.

Other work on the so-called Large Hadron Collider (LHC) could explain dark matter and dark energy -- strange phenomena that, stunned astrophysicists discovered a few years ago, account for 96 percent of the universe.

The LHC device "will be in working order by the end of June," CERN director general Robert Aymar told journalists.

A gamble costing six billion Swiss francs (almost six billion dollars, 3.9 billion euros) that has harnessed the labours of more than 2,000 physicists from nearly three dozen countries, the LHC is the biggest, most powerful high-energy particle accelerator ever built.

Beams of hydrogen protons will whizz around at near-light speed in opposite directions until, bent by powerful superconducting magnets, they will smash together in four bus-sized detector chambers, where they will be annihilated at temperatures hotter than the sun.

But Aymar played down hopes of any immediate discoveries once the LHC is set in motion.

"We will accumulate data for two years and it will take a lot of time to interpret," he said.

He also scoffed at fears that the massive experiment could create a black hole with potentially devastating consequences for life on Earth.

"The system is totally safe. There is nothing to fear," he said.

GUT SUPERBUG CAUSING MORE ILLNESSES, DEATHS

ATLANTA - The number of people hospitalized with a dangerous intestinal superbug has been growing by more than 10,000 cases a year, according to a new study.

The germ, resistant to some antibiotics, has become a regular menace in hospitals and nursing homes. The study found it played a role in nearly 300,000 hospitalizations in 2005, more than double the number in 2000.

The infection, Clostridium difficile, is found in the colon and can cause diarrhea and a more serious intestinal condition known as colitis. It is spread by spores in feces. But the spores are difficult to kill with most conventional household cleaners or antibacterial soap.

C-diff, as it's known, has grown resistant to certain antibiotics that work against other colon bacteria. The result: When patients take those antibiotics, competing bacteria die off and C-diff explodes.

This virulent strain of C-diff was rarely seen before 2000.

"The nature of this infection is changing. It's more severe," said Dr. L. Clifford McDonald, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expert who was not part of the study.

There are other factors that play into the rise of C-diff cases as well, including a larger of number of patients who are older and sicker. "And there may be some overuse and inappropriate use of antibiotics," said Dr. Marya Zilberberg, a University of Massachusetts researcher and lead author of the study.

The Zilberberg study was based on a sample of more than 36 million annual discharges from non-governmental U.S. hospitals. That data was used to generate the study's national estimates.

MINISTERS: OLMERT JUSTS WANTS A DIGNIFIED EXIT

By Gil Ronen - Ministers from the Kadima party said Wednesday that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert understands that "this is the end" politically, and only asks that he be allowed to transfer the reins of power in a "dignified" way. In the Likud, Shas and Labor parties, the generally accepted prediction is that Olmert will resign and that elections for the 18th Knesset and a new government will take place in late 2008. Another possible scenario which is considered less likely involves Olmert suspending himself without resigning, thus making it possible for someone else in Kadima to take his seat as Prime Minister.

The catalyst for the current situation was Labor leader Ehud Barak's press conference Wednesday morning, in which he called upon Olmert to "disconnect himself from the business of running the government" and hinted broadly that he would like the Kadima ministers to choose an alternative leader who would replace Olmert as Prime Minister, without elections.

JERUSALEM BECOMING WORLD-CLASS BIO-TECHNOLOGY CENTER

By Hillel Fendel - Ron Tuttnauer, Chairman of the Manufacturers Association in the Jerusalem District, says that Jerusalem is quickly becoming a world-class center for bio-technology. Tuttnauer provided statistics and information on the status of industry in Jerusalem, at a ceremony in honor of Jerusalem Industry Day.

Tuttnauer predicted that the forecasted arrival of two leading bio-technological companies would increase the number of employees in this field to 4,000 within five years, making Jerusalem a world center.

Jerusalem is currently one of the most important bio-technological centers in Israel, Tuttnauer informed his listeners. More than 3,000 people are employed in some 100 bio-tech and life-science businesses in the capital.

Overall, Jerusalem businesses exported over six billion shekels worth of products in 2007, and this number is expected rise by 8% this year.

ISRAEL SENDS MORE AID TO BURMA AND CHINA

By Ezra HaLevi - Israel has dispatched a third shipment of aid to Burma (Myanmar) and another shipment to China, as well, following natural disasters in both places.

The third shipment to Myanmar included medical personnel, training specialists and logisticians who will be deployed to the area hit by Cyclone Nagris in order to direct and continue IsraAID's relief efforts in the field there. Almost 25,000 people were killed in the hurricane.

Equipment to China
The latest shipment to China, where an earthquake devastated the Schezuan province includes 90 tons of medical equipment, water purification systems, emergency generators, tents and gear for refugees, and clothes.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry raised $1.5 million in aid, following the earthquake, from Israeli companies and American Jewish donors through the United Israel Appeal.

China turned down an Israeli offer to send search and rescue teams to the region.

"What Israel is doing is the minimum that we can do to express the warm relations between Israel and China," Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said. "Israel's willingness to help out wherever a disaster occurs is an expression of the humanitarian side of Israel's relations with the rest of the nations in the world."

FBI WARNS: NEW aL-QUAIDA WMD THREAT

The FBI issued a bulletin to 18,000 law enforcement agencies this week warning that al-Qaida has made new threats to use weapons of mass destruction against U.S. targets.

ABC News reported late Tuesday that intelligence sources have confirmed that al-Qaida plans to release a new video on the web sometime tomorrow. U.S. intelligence believes the terror group will advise its "jihadists to use biological, chemical and nuclear weapons to attack the West."

An FBI spokesman confirmed the threat "calling for the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) against civilians." The U.S. has no "intelligence of any specific plot or indication of a threat to the U.S.," the Bureau spokesman said. Still, the FBI has taken the precautionary step of alerting other agencies of the potential threat.

'SEX INDOCTRINATION OPPONENTS ARE LIKE HITLER'

Board member blasts critics of state's 'gay' promotions

A school board member in California says those who oppose the state's SB777, a law approved by last year's legislature and signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that restricts public schools to teaching only positive perspectives of homosexuality, are "like Hitler."

The report comes from Karen England of Capitol Resource Family Impact, which is working on the Save Our Kids campaign to assemble enough petition signatures in the state to put SB777 on the 2008 election ballot.

"Last night the West Covina Unified School Board took a bold stand for families and our values by voting to pass a resolution supporting the Save Our Kids initiative," said England's report. "This is the first local school board to publicly protest SB777 and its harmful policies."

FOOD CRISIS THREATENS 22 COUNTRIES, U.N. SAYS

ROME, Italy (AP) -- Twenty-two nations are particularly threatened by the global food crisis that has seen soaring prices increase hunger, leading to protests and riots in some countries, the United Nations said Wednesday.

Prices of basic food stuffs are soaring.

A report prepared by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization for a summit in Rome next week said the countries are vulnerable because they suffer from chronic hunger and are forced to import food and fuel.

The report said Eritrea, Niger, Comoros, Haiti and Liberia are particularly affected.

The three-day conference that opens Tuesday is expected to draw a number of world leaders. The FAO said it will provide a "historic chance" to relaunch the fight against hunger and poverty and boost agricultural production in developing countries.

High oil prices, growing demand, flawed trade policies, panic buying and speculation have sent food prices soaring worldwide. Food riots have occurred in Haiti, Egypt and Somalia this year.

The crisis underlines "the fragility of the balance between global food supplies and the needs of the world's inhabitants," said the FAO's director-general, Jacques Diouf.

The report warned that the world must prepare for further sharp price increases and continued market volatility.

WASHINGTON URGES UN TO SEARCH FOR MORE SYRIAN NUCLEAR SITES

US officials pressing IAEA to broaden scope of search in Syria after nuclear facilities, Washington Post reports

Syrian nuclear facility bombed by Israel Photo: AFP

The United States is pressing UN inspectors to broaden the scope of a search in Syria to include possible secret nuclear facilities, The Washington Post reported in Thursday editions, citing US government officials and Western diplomats.

At least three sites have been identified by US officials and passed along to the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the newspaper reported. US government officials declined to describe the specific sites that have drawn interest or to discuss how they were identified, it said. Citing unnamed sources, the Post said US officials want to know if the suspect sites may have been support facilities for the alleged Al Kibar reactor destroyed in an Israeli raid in September. Syria has said the facility was a disused military building in its eastern desert that had no nuclear link. It has yet to accept a request from the IAEA to visit the site.

BISHOP SAYS COLLAPSE OF CHRISTIANITY IS WRECKING BRITISH SOCIETY- AND ISLAM IS FILLING THE VOID

The collapse of Christianity has wrecked British society, a leading Church of England bishop declared yesterday.

It has destroyed family life and left the country defenceless against the rise of radical Islam in a moral and spiritual vacuum.

In a lacerating attack on liberal values, the Right Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali, the Bishop of Rochester, said the country was mired in a doctrine of 'endless self-indulgence' that had brought an explosion in public violence and binge-drinking.

In a blow to Gordon Brown, he mocked the 'scramblings and scratchings' of politicians who try to cast new British values such as respect and tolerance.

The Pakistani-born bishop dated the downfall of Christianity from the 'social and sexual revolution' of the 1960s.

He said Church leaders had capitulated to Marxist revolutionary thinking and quoted an academic who blames the loss of 'faith and piety among women' for the steep decline in Christian worship.

Dr Nazir-Ali said the ' newfangled and insecurely founded' doctrine of multiculturalism has left immigrant communities 'segregated, living parallel lives'.

Christian values of human dignity, equality and freedom could be lost as the way is left open for the advance of brands of Islam that do not respect Western values.
