"Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men , who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that wareth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; That he may please Him who hath chosen to be a soldier"
The believer is not only a child of God, redeemed by the precious blood of Christ (1 Pet. 1:18,19) but he is called to do valiant soldier-service, contending esrnestly for the faith once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3). This figure is frequently used in the epistles. Note specially 2 Cor. 10:3-5; Eph. 6:10-18; 1 Thess. 5:8, as well as our present text. The Christian life is a constant warfare. We have three subtle and cruel enemies ever arrayed against us - the world, the flesh, and the Devil - and agaist all these we are called to make a resolute stand. We do not fight in our own strength but as we are empowered by Him whose soldiers we are. - H.A. Ironside
He giveth more grace as the shadows grow deeper; His love seems more tender as trials increase;
Each day as I trust Him I find He is able To keep me secure in His infinite peace.
Oh, marvelous grace of my wonderful Saviour! No measure can tell me how wide or how deep;
But in every trial and heartache and sorrow, I know He has kept me; I know He will keep - Lillian M. Weeks
Carter also ticked off other figures saying the US and the Soviet Union (Russia) have more than 12,000 nuclear weapons each and that Great Britain and France have several hundred.
Carter was arguing that the US should negotiate directly with Iran in order to persuade the Muslim nation to halt its nuclear program, The Times stated.
"My advice to the U.S. would be to start talking to Iran now," Carter said. He made the comments at the Hay-on-Wye literary festival in Wales.
Going a bit further, Carter condemned Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip as "one of the greatest human rights crimes now existing on Earth. There is no reason to treat these people this way," he said regarding Gaza's Palestinian residents.
Israeli officials refused to comment on Carter’s statements, particularly regarding nuclear capability. Israel is generally believed to have nuclear weapons, but has neither acknowledged nor denied its nuclear capability
SAUDI KING INVITES JEWS, CHRISTIANS FOR INTERFAITH DIALOGE
Israeli media is reporting that Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has invited Jews and Christians to his kingdom for an interfaith dialogue despite the fact that anyone with an Israeli passport or an entry visa into Israel stamped in their passport is not allowed into the country.
Haaretz daily newspaper said the date and location of the meeting has not been announced. Abdullah first announced his plans in March to hold dialogue with Muslims from around the world and Christians and Jews. “We will start to meet with our brothers in every faith I have mentioned - the Bible and the New Testament,” he said.
At the time, Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger responded positively.
“Our hands are extended to any peace initiative, or to any dialogue whose goal is to bring an end to terror and violence,” he said. “I have said many times that the true way to reach the long-awaited peace is through interfaith dialogue.”
World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder said in a statement that King Abdullah’s initiative “is a laudable step forward. We hope that other religious leaders and political leaders throughout the world will be encouraged to join.”

CALLS FOR OLMERTTO RESIGN, LAWYERS SPIN DEFENSE
The testimony by financier and philanthropist Moshe Talansky regarding money he allegedly gave Prime Minister Ehud Olmert over the years led today to calls for Olmert's resignation and more speculation that his days as Prime Minister may soon be over.
MK Limor Livnat (Likud) claimed that the testimony proved that Olmert must resign and that Israel needs new elections. "Attempts by Olmert and his men to cast aspersions on Moshe Talansky notwithstanding, it became clear today that the Prime Minister did indeed receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in envelopes - in cash and not in checks," the former Education Minister said.
Meretz leader Chaim Oron said: "I repeat my call for Olmert to suspend himself from office immediately. His rights as a citizen and his duties as Prime Minister cannot be bridged. The only way out is the end of his service as Prime Minister
GENEVA -- The Red Cross warned Tuesday of a possible surge in "food-related violence" because of soaring prices that are increasing hunger around the world.

AHMADINEJAD SEEKS MEETING WITH POPE
IRAN'S President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has asked for an audience next week with Pope Benedict XVI which would be the first meeting between the two leaders, a diplomatic source said today.
Mr Ahmadinejad is among the heads of state expected to visit Rome to attend a June 3-5 United Nations summit on global food security, hosted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation.
Vatican sources said earlier this week that it was not yet clear if the Pope would meet individual heads of state attending the UN event or hold a collective audience for them in order to save time.
The Vatican has criticised Mr Ahmadinejad for calling for Israel to be wiped off the map.
The Holy See has diplomatic ties with Iran and Pope Benedict has met Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
The pontiff has repeatedly encouraged dialogue to resolve differences over Iran's disputed nuclear program, which the West says is aimed at making nuclear bombs.
GEORGIAN MINISTER SAYS RUSSIA ARMING REBELS FOR WAR: REPORT
Russia is pushing the rebel Georgian region of Abkhazia towards war with Tbilisi by arming separatist fighters to stop Georgia from joining NATO, a top Georgian minister said in an interview on Wednesday.
"The Russians are forcing the Abkhaz to prepare for war" against Georgia, Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili told Russia's Kommersant daily.
"Russia is giving them money and weapons for them to fight against us," including by financing the purchase of a Buk-M1 air defence system worth 150 million dollars (95 million euros), he said.
Merabishvili said this was all part of Russia's plans "to guarantee Georgia does not get into NATO" by stirring unrest in the region.
"If there is a war and there is a single shot from the Georgian side, Georgia will never become a member of NATO," he said.
