US Secretary of State John Kerry meets Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Thursday for a lengthy session in Geneva that could go on until Saturday. They need to resolve differences over the plan Moscow says it has handed the Americans to place chemical weapons in Syria under international control. The US state department called the Russian plan “ideas” rather than a “lengthy package.”

UN envoys of the UK, the US, France, China and Russia meet in New York later Wednesday, with the US, France and the UK pushing for a binding Security Council resolution entailing force for Syria’s non-compliance on its chemical weapons and the Russians digging in their heels against it. 

School Tells Child She Can’t Write About God

A Tennessee mom is looking for answers after her daughter’s teacher refused to let the child write about God for a school assignment.

Erin Shead, a 10-year-old student at Lucy Elementary School in Millington, was assigned to write about someone she idolized. The girl, who is a Christian, decided to write about God.

“I look up to God,” she wrote. “I love him and Jesus, and Jesus is His earthly son. I also love Jesus.”

The youngster also said that God would “always be the #1 person I look up to.”

“It was so cute and innocent,” Erica Shead told television station WREG. “She talked about how God created the Earth.”

But Shead said her daughter’s teacher objected to the choice and told her she could not use God as an idol for the assignment.

Erin told her mom that it had something to do with religion God could not be her idol. The teacher then allegedly told the child that she had to take the paper about God home – because it could not remain on school property.

“How can you tell this baby – that’s a Christian – what she can say and what she can’t say?” Shead asked.

The teacher approved of Erin’s second choice — Michael Jackson.

Shead told WREG she met with the principal and still has questions about what happened.

Palestinians Declare War Over Temple Mount

The armed wing of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' own Fatah faction has declared war on Israel over what it said are attempts to lay the groundwork for the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.

Fatah's Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade issued a statement on Tuesday decrying renewed visits by Jewish groups to the Temple Mount, calling such visits an "invasion...by settlers" that had no other purpose but to harm Muslim interests.

In response, the group threatened to green light a new wave of terrorism against Israel if the Jewish visits to the Temple Mount did not cease by Friday.

Hours later, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein, the Mufti of Jerusalem, got in on the game and declared that Israel was trying to destroy the Al Aqsa Mosque that occupies the southern portion of the Temple Mount.

Hussein labeled Israeli policy that says Jews have a right to visit the Temple Mount as "dangerous" and an "insult" to Islam.

In comments likely to enhance his progressive reputation, Pope Francis has written a long, open letter to the founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari, stating that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences. Responding to a list of questions published in the paper by Mr Scalfari, who is not a Roman Catholic, Francis wrote: “You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don’t believe and who don’t seek the faith. I start by saying – and this is the fundamental thing – that God’s mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.

Of these, 23 were ≥M5.0 and four ≥M6.0 – three of them on the Pacific margins and the fourth on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.  

Florida Pastor Arrested for Attempting Heinous 9/11 Protest
Pastor Terry Jones and his assistant pastor, Marvin Sapp Jr. were arrested on felony charges Wednesday as they attempted to stage a protest against the Muslim faith by burning Qurans. They were arrested for attempting to burn close to 3,000 Qurans; one for each 9/11 victim of the 2001 terrorist attacks.  

Minor Earthquake Felt in Jerusalem Area
According to the Institute, the quake occurred at 4:20 Am local time. The epicenter of the quake was in an area north of the Dead Sea, about 30 kilometers outside Jerusalem. Residents of Jerusalem and its eastern suburbs reported feeling the tremor.

Iraq blasts near Baghdad Shia mosque 'kill at least 35'
Two explosions near a Shia mosque in the Iraqi capital Baghdad have killed at least 35 people, officials say. At least 55 others were wounded in the attack in the largely Shia district of Kasra as worshippers were leaving the mosque after evening prayers. No-one has yet said they carried out the attack, but suspicion will fall on Sunni militants.

Florida pastor arrested before he could burn 2,998 Qurans on anniversary of 9/11 attacks
Law enforcement arrested a Florida pastor Wednesday as he drove to a park to light nearly 3,000 Qurans on fire to protest the 2001 terrorist attacks. Polk County sheriff’s deputies arrested Pastor Terry Jones, 61, and his associate pastor, Marvin Sapp Jr., 34, on felony charges as he drove a pickup truck towing a large barbecue-style grill filled with Qurans soaked in kerosene. He had said he was heading to a nearby park to burn 2,998 Qurans — one for every victim of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Sheriff’s officials said they would hold a news conference later Wednesday to discuss specific charges.
