Solar Storm Could Leave Britain Without Power ‘For Months’

The study, a joint venture from researchers at Lloyd’s of London and Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) in the United States, details a dystopian scenario where a shortage of electrical transformers would leave Western nations without electricity for months because of the time needed to build replacements.

A solar storm occurs when magnetic fields “loop” out of sunspots, releasing huge amounts of energy. These bursts of “plasma”, a superheated, electrically-charged gas, could enter the Earth’s own magnetic field and eventually disrupt networks dependent on electricity on the ground.

Huge surges of electricity flowing unexpectedly into telephone lines, the National Grid and transport networks would overwhelm them, resulting in widespread power failures.

The total cost of such a scenario today in Europe and North America is estimated by Lloyd’s at $2.6 trillion (£1.67tr) for a five-month blackout period, though it could be as low as $0.6tr (£0.39tr).

According to the report, Earth is overdue for such an event, which would normally be expected every 150 years.

“Historical auroral records suggest a return period of… 150 years for very extreme storms,” it reads, adding that “The geomagnetic storm risk is projected to peak in early 2015″.

Data on sunspots, extreme magnetic activity on the sun’s surface that can cause solar storms, dates back to 1775. This date is thought of as the beginning of the first of Earth’s 11-year “solar cycles”. Currently, the Earth is nearing the peak of the 24th cycle.

(Nuclear Weapons)When the first atomic bomb was detonated in July of 1945, for the first time, man had the means to totally destroy himself. The Bible says that if Jesus was to delay His return to earth, man would completely annihilate himself.

"Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants there of. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein aredesolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left." (Isa 24:1,6) (Rev 8:7) (Rev 9:16-18)

Massive Dust Storms Hit Southeast Colorado, Evoking “Dirty Thirties”

Jillane Hixson stopped dusting her home about noon on a clear Friday and looked out the window to a storm roiling in the distance.

Small dust devils kicked up, and within moments, a punishing dust storm slammed into Hixson Farms at full force, trapping Hixson and her husband, Dave Tzilkowski, in their home for 15 hours to kick off the Memorial Day weekend.

“You hear sand and dirt pounding against the window,” said Hixson, a fifth-generation farmer whose land and home are 4 miles south of Lamar. “You know that it’s your crop that’s hitting the windows and blowing away, and it’s not just affecting you, but also everyone else.”

They raced to close the blinds and curtains — to minimize the thick fog of dirt seeping inside and to block the grim vision.

“You can’t stand to look at it,” she said. “It’s like a train wreck, looking a disaster full in the face.”

They paced and they prayed as 60 mph winds kept coming.

“At one point, the sand was pounding on the glass so hard, I didn’t know if it was hail or dirt,” she said.

By late evening, so much dirt was floating inside the house, they had to cover their faces with handkerchiefs.

“It was in your nose, on your tongue, in your eyes,” she said.

Hixson showered late that night but soon was covered with another layer of grime. They went to bed at 11 p.m., putting their heads under the blankets to shield them from the noise and the dirt, but they couldn’t really sleep. They moved from bedroom to bedroom trying to find some peace.

By the time they woke at 6 a.m. Saturday, the storm had passed.

They opened the front door and saw 3-foot drifts of dirt everywhere.

“We were shellshocked, almost immobilized by depression,” she said. “We were overwhelmed by the huge financial loss, and by the physical and emotional stress.”

Their spirits lifted when family from Denver arrived for the holiday weekend.

It took two days for the entire extended family, with the help of two tractors and a loader, to clear the fine brown grit.

The storm was the worst of seven that have scoured the farm since November, Hixson said.

“We had periods of blowing soils in the 1970s that required tractor work,” Tzilkowski said. “But this is ridiculous. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Dirt is almost all that people can talk about these days in communities along U.S. 50 and 287.

Photos of fierce dust storms rolling across the state’s Eastern Plains are showing up on Facebook and local TV news, harking to the Dust Bowl years that devastated southeastern Colorado in the 1930s. Farmers and ranchers are tolling their losses. People are praying for rain

Joshua Valedictorian Talks About Jesus, Has Mic Turned Off

Joshua High School’s valedictorian had his microphone turned off during his speech when he began to talk about his faith, deviating from comments that school officials had approved before Thursday’s graduation ceremony.

The valedictorian, salutatorian and historian must submit their speeches for review by administrators before commencement, officials said.

Valedictorian Remington Reimer was muted because his speech deviated from the approved version, Joshua school district Superintendent Fran Marek said.

“They were told if they deviated form the speech that the mic would be turned off. It had nothing to do with the content,” Marek said in a telephone interview Friday.

Neither Reimer nor his parents, of Burleson, could be reached for comment Friday.

Serena Bair of Cleburne, who was in the crowd at Owl Stadium to watch her daughter graduate, said Reimer spoke for about a minute before the audience heard clicking sounds and the microphone was turned off.

“He talked about how God was the reason why he and his fellow classmates had graduated,” said Bair, who organized a senior breakfast the morning of graduation.

“He just talked about Christ and about Jesus being put up on the cross and dying and giving up his body and his blood for our sins so that we could be there.”

Get Ready, Jesus is Coming

You don't have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing.  In the Book of Luke Jesus used a weather analogy to highlight how people failed to realize that they were about to witness the revelation of the Messiah.  Their error resulted in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Today, people are making an even bigger mistake by not comprehending that this is the generation that will see the fulfillment of the end times.

"And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, there cometh a shower; and so it is.  And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, there will be heat; and it cometh to pass. Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?" (Luke 12:54-56)

Dr. Bill McGuire who has a PHD in Volcanology and is a Professor of Geohazards at University College, London, England, makes the following statement: "The greatest fear of Hazard Scientists and Disaster Managers is that we will shortly be faced with Global natural catastrophe of unprecedented size!  The threat of an Asteroid or Comet impact is now understood, but few appreciate that we are overdue for a Volcanic Super-Eruption big enough to freeze the planet. Other tectonic threats include earthquake "storms" powerful enough to devastate a Continent, and giant Tsunami, huge sea waves, normally generated by earthquakes, capable of obliterating entire cities around the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans."

Scientists, Doctors and the Media, are warning of scenarios the Bible describes for the end times!

The signs of the coming of Christ are everywhere. Are you ready?

Jesus warned of that day, He said that some would be saved and that some would be lost. Of the lost He said, “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal” (Matthew 25:46).

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18).

First Clash Between Syrian Rebels and Iraqi Soldiers. Baghdad Bankrolls Assad’s War

Syrian rebel forces attacked two Iraqi military positions at the southern tip of their common border Sunday, June 9. They failed to beat the Iraqi troops back although a number of Iraqi officers and soldiers were killed. Shooting incidents flared during the day near the Al-Waleed Syrian-Iraqi crossing, but the Iraqi forces held fast.
This was their first engagement with Syrian rebels in the 28-month Syrian civil war – but unlikely to be the last.

The Syrian Sunni rebels were anxious to break through the Iraqi lines which were blocking their access to supplies of weapons and fighters sent over by Sunni militias in the Western Iraqi Anbar region. The failure of the rebels' first assault set back their bid to loosen the grip of loyalist Syrian troops on this strategic border crossing.
debkafile’s military and intelligence sources report that while all eyes have been drawn in recent days to Hizballah's proactive military involvement in Assad’s war, the Iraqi role has been under-reported an treated as scattered and sporadic military actions, whereas in fact, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has even outdone Hassan Nasrallah in the generosity of his assistance for propping Assad up.

We have learned that he has advanced unlimited Iraqi credit for his war chest,, placing Iraq’s multibillion-dollar oil revenues at his disposal. US, British and French importers may not realize they are contributing to Assad’s war effort against the rebels with their purchases.
A Western intelligence source told debkafile that al-Maliki is even footing the bill for Syrian government’s imports, from flour to Russian weapons systems and arms bought on the international market for the Syrian army and Hizballah. Baghdad is also covering Syria’s consumption of petroleum, benzene, fuel distillates and oils for the Syrian army's logistical systems.

And as we reported in the last DEBKA Weekly, the Iraqi prime minister has detached 20,000 troops for the mission of sealing the Syrian border against the entry of rebel reinforcements and assistance originating in the Persian Gulf and from Iraqi Sunni militias. The Syrian rebel attacks Sunday battered the Iraqi lines ranged there but failed to force any gaps.
Assad is therefore furnished with ample funds and soldiers by Iraq, fighting men by HIzballah, new and replenished weapons by Russia and Iran and aircraft, tanks and artillery for Syria’s own stores.

With hefty financial, intelligence and military aid from four allies, Bashar Assad is better equipped than ever before to rout an opposition that is divided and starved of assistance, arms and support.

The Syrian president Bashar Assad told Jordanian opposition politicians Sunday that opening a front on the Golan against Israel was “a serious matter” and would not consist of firing a few improvised rockets from time to time. According to a quote in the Hizballah mouthpiece, the Lebanese Al Akhbar, Assad said “The resistance will be well-planned and designed to damage the enemy.” DEBKAfile: The Syrian ruler was confirming that serious joint preparations were afoot by Syria, Iran and Hizballah to attack Israel from the Golan.

Americans Starting to Realize Their Paranoid Fantasies About Government Surveillance Have Come True

surveillance1

For more than a decade now, Americans have made peace with the uneasy knowledge that someone — government, business or both — might be watching.

We knew that the technology was there. We knew that the law might allow it. As we stood under a security camera at a street corner, connected with friends online or talked on a smart phone equipped with GPS, we knew, too, it was conceivable that we might be monitored.

In a plenary lecture for this week’s Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Victoria — known as the Learneds — he calls it the shift from “fear” to “fun,” from surveillance as a security tool to a social media pastime.

Now, though, paranoid fantasies have come face to face with modern reality: The government IS collecting our phone records. The technological marvels of our age have opened the door to the National Security Agency’s sweeping surveillance of Americans’ calls.

Torn between our desires for privacy and protection, we’re now forced to decide what we really want.

“We are living in an age of surveillance,” said Neil Richards, a professor at Washington University’s School of Law in St. Louis who studies privacy law and civil liberties. “There’s much more watching and much more monitoring, and I think we have a series of important choices to make as a society — about how much watching we want.”

But the only way to make those choices meaningful, he and others said, is to lift the secrecy shrouding the watchers.

“I don’t think that people routinely accept the idea that government should be able to do what it wants to do,” said Marc Rotenberg, president of the Electronic Privacy Information Center. “It’s not just about privacy. It’s about responsibility … and you only get to evaluate that when government is more public about its conduct.”

The NSA, officials acknowledged this week, has been collecting phone records of hundreds of millions of U.S. phone customers. In another program, it collects audio, video, email, photographic and Internet search usage of foreign nationals overseas who use any of the nine major Internet providers, including Microsoft, Google, Apple and Yahoo.

In interviews across the country in recent days, Americans said they were startled by the NSA’s actions. Abraham Ismail, a 25-year-old software designer taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi outside a Starbucks in Raleigh, N.C., said in retrospect, fears had prompted Americans to give up too much privacy.

“It shouldn’t be so just effortless,” he said, snapping his fingers for emphasis, “to pull people’s information and get court orders to be able to database every single call, email. I mean, it’s crazy.”

The clash between security and privacy is far from new. In 1878, it played out in a court battle over whether government officials could open letters sent through the mail. In 1967, lines were drawn over government wiretapping.

Academics At Oxford University Pay to be Cryogenically Preserved and Brought Back to Life in the Fut

The belief that death is the only certainty in life is a concept senior academic staffs at an Oxford University Institute are hoping to dismantle, by paying to be cryogenically preserved and brought back to life in the future.

Nick Bostrom, professor of philosophy at the Future of Humanity Institute [FHI] and his co researcher Anders Sandberg have agreed to pay an American company to detach and deep freeze their heads in the advent of their deaths.

Colleague Stuart Armstrong is instead opting to have his whole body frozen. Preserving the full body is technically more difficult to achieve and can cost up to £130,000.

Bostrom, Armstrong, Sandberg are lead researchers at the FHI, a part of the prestigious Oxford Martin School where academics complete research into problems affecting the globe, such as a climate change.

However, there is currently no academic research currently being undertaken into human cryogenic preservation at the college. Instead, the group have set up life insurance policies costing up to £45 a month in premiums that will provide the funds needed to preserve them upon their death.

Editors note.....God's Word says, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). What a shock these men will some day get as they defy God and His Word.

God has provided a way for men to rise again. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life" ....."Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" (John 5:24,28,29).

"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 14:12).

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding" (Proverbs 9:10). These men are professors of higher learning and yet they lack wisdom and understanding.
