Thousands At Hevron Celebrate ‘Avraham’s Purchase’

Thousands at Hevron Celebrate ‘Avraham’s Purchase’Approximately 15,000 Jews flooded Hevron on the Sabbath, when the Torah reading opens with Avraham’s purchase of the Patriarchs Cave.

The army and police deployed extra forces to maintain security against Arab and leftist disturbances.

Residents of Kiryat Arab-Hevron opened their homes to host the visitors for the Sabbath. The crowd was the largest in Hevron since the Sukkot holiday and the “Selichot” prayers during the Ten Days of Repentance between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur, when tens of thousands of Jews arrived day and night from throughout the country.

The number of visitors on “Shabbat Chayei Sarah,” describing the death of Avraham’s wife and his purchase of the burial cave, increase every year, Hevron spokesman Noam Arnon told Arutz Sheva.

He noted that Knesset Members were more prominent this year due to the upcoming elections in January.

The Torah reading on Shabbat Chayei Sarah relates the negotiations between Avraham and the Arab elite, who initially replied to Avraham’s request to buy the Patriarchs' Cave by saying it was his for the asking.

Avraham, who understood the local culture and who also wanted to preserve the Cave and the surrounding field as Jewish property, insisted on paying for it.

The response was, “Four hundred pieces of silver – what is that between us?” Although the sum was extremely high, Avraham paid, and the Torah noted, the money was handed over to the “merchant.”

The purchase is one of three described in the Bible, the others being Jerusalem and Shechem, located in central Samaria.

Education Minister Gideon Sa’ad of the Likud party participated in a Likud gathering in Kiryat Arba Saturday night and told Arutz Sheva that he has promoted school trips to Hevron.

“There is no Sabbath like this, in which we read about the purchase of the burial cave by Avraham, to send a message to the younger generation of the connection between our forefathers and the roots of the Jewish People,” he said.

He said he will ask Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to continue to serve as Education Minister in the next government, which polls show Netanyahu will continue to head.

Revelation 22: 6-21

Exploring Revelation

Categories: Commentary;Prophecy;Book Study

Verse 6-7, "And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done. Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book."

"These sayings are faithful and true" This emphasizes the certainty of all that has been written in the book. The word "faithful" implies "trustworthiness." God has spoken in and through this book and it is absolute truth which we can be certain of. The truth has been uncovered for the world to see, if it will open its eyes. The book is filled with amazing, awesome things that may seem far out. But we are assured that the whole book is the truth and nothing but the truth. The warning is that no one is to trivialize or allegorize this message or reduce the message to meaningless symbols.

John mentions the holy prophets; the book of Revelation quotes more from the Old Testament than from the New Testament. Consequently we are to go to the Old Testament to find the meaning of many of the symbols in the book.

The words of this book have not been written to satisfy the curiosity of the natural man. They are given to the believer who has the indwelling Holy Spirit to reveal its meaning and message. These are words to live by and act upon. God promises a blessing to those who will do so.

We read in verse 7, "Behold, I come quickly," Quickly does not mean soon, it has the connotation of time and suddenness. He implies, "I will come on time," God has a time table and it will not be early or delayed and when it happens it will be sudden. There is an appointed day; the same thing was true of the first coming. Galatians 4:4, "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law."

The same thing was true when the Holy Spirit came, "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place" (Acts 2:1).

God is a God of order and design, He is never late and never early and He is never caught by surprise, He is master of every situation. We are encouraged to understand that our Lord is the master of every situation in our lives.

There is a promise of blessing for those who read and heed the book. "....blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book." Obedience to God's Word is the source of the blessing of God. That statement can never be over stated or over emphasized. This is not a promise to those who preach or defend the message of the book. It is a promise to those who hear and understand and obey the message. It is not a promise to those who give speculations about the meaning of the symbols; it is a blessing for those who obey the message. It is a blessing for those believers who fashion their lives according to the message of the book.

God forbid that I should teach and preach through the entire book and not incorporate its message into my life and go away without a blessing. We are to recognize His glory, appropriate His grace, and yield to His authority.

Verse 8-9, "And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God."

We are warned that we are to worship God only. This identifies Christ as a divine being as we read in Hebrews 1:6, "And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him."

The more we experience the mercy and grace of God the more we desire to worship Him. The more we learn about God, the more we realize how worthy He is of our worship. The more we are conscious of our sin, the more we praise and adore Christ for atoning for our sin.

Verse 10, "And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand."

Daniel was told to seal the message God gave to him concerning the end times, "And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end" (Daniel 12:9). As John writes he is told that the time is at hand. The entire church age is designated as the last days, but we are aware that we are living in the last days of the last days. In a special sense the message of this book is for us.

Jesus said that we can know that the time of His return "is near, even at the doors." It is a fact that the message of the book of Revelation has been opened up to our generation in a special way.

We, as members of the church age, are living at the end of Revelation chapter three. As we read the rest of the book we are peering into the near future. The fulfilment of chapters 4 to 19 is near at hand, that makes the book very interesting for us.

Verse 11, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” We see here the tragic condition of those who are lost and in hell. Once a soul arrives in hell his or her spiritual condition is fixed forever with no hope of change. Their fate is to stand before the Great White throne and be judged for their sin and rejection of Christ. They are then to be cast into hell forever beyond any hope. Choices made now that lead to the hardening of the heart against God with be set in stone at death.

You may say; I don’t believe God would send me to hell. The Bible says He will if you are continue to reject His grace and His Son. Do not be a fool and risk your souls eternal destruction in hell, now is the accepted time to repent and be saved from such a fate. Why do you hesitate? Five minutes from now may be forever too late!

I remind you the choices you make now will become permanent after your death. All desires for good will be gone. There will be no Holy Spirit to enlighten you and draw you to Christ. Evil will be your only desire.

I would remind you of the Words of Christ, who said about men and women in that day, “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Make sure of your salvation! Nominal Christianity is counterfeit Christianity. How awful, in that day, to discover that you are a counterfeit Christian.

The opposite side of the coin is found in the words, “....he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” For the believer the possibility of sin will be gone forever, what a wonderful eternal condition that will be! The lost will grow in wickedness but the righteous will continue to grow in righteous understanding and desire.

Verse 12, “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” This is a reference to the judgment seat of Christ where eternal rewards will be given to those who have served the Lord in this life and have honoured Him and pleased Him. Jesus said that when He comes to take the church home to be with Him in heaven He will have His rewards with Him.

We read about this event in 2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

This same event is referred to in 1 Corinthians 3:13-15, “Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”  For the Christian this life is very significant, we are preparing for eternity, we are sending on ahead of us the materials that will shape our eternal future. That makes our daily lives and daily actions tremendously significant. How often we get sidetracked in this life preparing for our momentary life in this world, how foolish!

We need to serve the God who says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”

Verse 14, “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” We have another blessing given here.

Those who in this life obey His commandments, which would include His command to wash our robes in the blood of the Lamb, those will have in eternity the right to the tree of life. These will be found going in and out of the city of heaven.

John makes this clear in 1 John 5:5, “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”

Verse 15, “For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” We see here the great gulf fixed between believers and unbelievers. The cross is the dividing line between two large groups on people, which side of the cross are you on?

Verse 16, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” This is the first time the word church or churches appears since chapter 3. It was in chapter 4 that the rapture of the church occurred, and it was in chapter 19 that the church returned to the earth with Christ.

Christ identifies Himself as the promised king that would come through the line of David. We read about that promise in Isaiah 11:1, “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.”

The Lord is here identifying with Israel when He says, “I am the root and the offspring of David.” He identifies Himself with the church when calls Himself, “the bright and morning star.”

The morning star appears in the predawn darkness before the sun arises. Thus we see Jesus appearing at the darkest moments of history to catch His church up into His presence.

He will appear later to Israel as the Sun of righteousness at His second coming.

Now we have the final, all inclusive invitation in Verse 17, “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

We have here a three-fold invitation. “Let Him that is athirst come,” my friend if you have in your heart and soul a void that you long to have satisfied, Christ can fill that void and satisfy your soul, but you must come in repentance and faith. Then it says, “let him that heareth say, Come,” If you have heard the message of the gospel you are invited to come to Christ for salvation full and free. You hold your eternal destiny in your own hands at this point. Then it says, “whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”  The choice is yours! Peter said, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). My friend if you go to hell it will be against the will of God, you will have no one to blame but yourself.

Now we have a solemn warning. This is a warning not to tamper with God’s Word. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” (verse 18-19). This is an awesome warning to those who tamper with the meaning and the message of the book. I fear that it also includes those who lightly revise the scriptures, thinking they can improve upon what God has written. This is a warning and it threatens the loss of any hope of salvation. We need to fear God and not handle His Word lightly.

This seems to have a special connotation to those who live in the end times. Notice it says, “God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.”

I would warn those who today rail against the KJV, and lightly brush it aside, be careful, be careful.

Now we come to the final words of the book. “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

There are two words of warning as the book closes. “I come quickly, (suddenly)” We need to live in readiness all day, every day. And, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.” Notice, the grace of God is offered to man right up until the hour that man is removed from the earth. The exhortation we need is, “See that ye refuse not the grace of God.”

Netanyahu Puts the World on Notice: We Can Escalate

Netanyahu Puts World on Notice: We Can EscalatePrime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu pre-empted the usual calls for restraint in the wake of an escalation of Hamas attacks Monday morning and told Sunday’s weekly Cabinet meeting that Israel "is prepared to escalate."

"The world must realize that Israel won't sit by idly in the face of attempts to attack us. We are prepared to escalate our actions," he said.

The latest barrage of more than 60 mortar shells, rockets and Katyusha missiles on southern Israel may be the last straw for the government and the IDF, whose policies of restraint have left tens of thousands of southern Israeli residents living for years with what has become a routine of trauma, often accompanied by destroyed homes, injuries and death.

Southern Israel has been under intense fire ever since the Sharon government carried out the expulsion of Jews from Gaza and the withdrawal of all Israeli military personnel in the summer of 2005.

The government ordered the IDF to carry out the three-week Operation Cast Lead operation in the winter of 2008-09, which halted the missile attacks that were beginning to threaten the southern edge of Israel’s industrial center in metropolitan Tel Aviv.

The result of the retaliation was a lull in attacks, but one which lasted less than two months.

After nearly five more years of terrorist attacks, limited retaliations, more attacks and verbal threats from Israel, several Cabinet ministers appeared Sunday morning to be more prepared to back up words with actions in the wake of Hamas’ continued use of more advanced weapons, such as the anti-tank Kornet missile.

Hamas also is known to have longer-range missiles that can strike Tel Aviv.

Home Front Defense Minister Avi Dichter on Sunday called Gaza “a terrorist state” that necessitates Israel to think about different measures.

Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya’alon told Voice of Israel government radio, “We aren’t going to let this stand….. We have many ways of exacting a price from the other side.”

He did not affirm or deny that another Cast Lead-style invasion may be carried out.

“Everything is being considered,” he said.

Hamas, which previously has left other terrorist organizations to take responsibility for Saturday night and Sunday morning’s barrage, decided to join the fray and took “credit” for rocket strikes that bombarded the development town of Sderot and surrounding agricultural farms.

One factory sustained a direct rocket hit, and at least two cars were damaged Sunday morning.

Israel Threatens to Hit Gaza Hard After Rocket Barrage

Israel threatens to hit Gaza hard after rocket barrage

Israeli officials on Sunday warned that they will escalate the battle against Gaza-based terrorists after a series of cross-border attacks on Saturday left seven Israelis wounded.

The violence began on Saturday afternoon, when Palestinian terrorists fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli army patrol vehicle on the Israeli side of the Gaza security fence. The missile scored a direct hit, and four Israeli soldiers were wounded, one seriously.

Israeli tanks immediately responded by bombarding selected terrorist installations in Gaza. Palestinian sources said four people were killed by the return fire.

A short while later, missiles and mortar shells started landing on Israeli towns and villages across the southern Negev region. At least 60 missiles and mortars were fired into southern Israel over the course of Saturday night.

Three Israeli civilians were wounded in the night-long barrage, and widespread damage was reported. Israel responded with air strikes on additional targets in Gaza.

Both Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, and its allies in Islamic Jihad claimed credit for taking part in the attacks. Israeli officials said they would be sorry for doing so.

"The IDF is striking and will continue to strike Gaza," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a press conference. "Terrorist organizations are suffering grave setbacks at the hands of the IDF. The world must understand that Israel will not sit idly."

Netanyahu closed by warning that Israel is "ready to escalate our response."

Just two weeks ago, Israeli military officials cautioned that if the violence emanating from Gaza did not cease, Israel would have no choice but to launch another ground invasion.

Col. Amir Baram, commander of one of Israel's top paratrooper units, told Channel 2 News that the Israeli army will likely have to enter Gaza in the near future.

"I think there won't be a choice. We'll need to enter Gaza soon," said Baram, noting that the only way to truly cripple the terrorists' capabilities is to go house-to-house and destroy their weapons caches.

Israel last entered Gaza in force during the winter of 2008-2009. Despite the massive escalation in terrorist rocket fire that forced Israel to take action, the international community predictably blamed Israel for the conflict and its casualties.

From the Heart of An Honest Muslim

By Dr. Tawfik Hamid

"I am a Muslim by faith, a Christian by spirit, a Jew by heart, and above all I am a human being." ~ Dr. Tawfik Hamid. Dr. Hamid is an Egyptian scholar and author of the article. The world needs more people like him---ones who have the courage to face-up to reality.

I was born a Muslim and lived all my life as a follower of Islam.

After the barbaric terrorist attacks done by the hands of my fellow Muslims everywhere on this globe, and after the too many violent acts by Islamists in many parts of the world, I feel responsible as a Muslim and as a human being to speak out and tell the truth to protect the world and Muslims as well from a coming catastrophe and war of civilizations.

I have to admit that our current Islamic teaching creates violence and hatred toward non-Muslims. We Muslims are the ones who need to change. Until now we have accepted polygamy, the beating of women by men, and killing those who convert from Islam to other religions.

We have never had a clear and strong stand against the concept of slavery or wars, to spread our religion and to subjugate others to Islam and force them to pay a humiliating tax called jizia. We ask others to respect our religion while all the time we curse non-Muslims loudly (in Arabic) in our Friday prayers in the mosques.

What message do we convey to our children when we call the Jews "descendants of the pigs and monkeys"? [Yet, both Arabs and Jews are descendants of Ibrahim (Abraham)!] Is this a message of love and peace, or a message of hate?

I have been into [Christian] churches and [Jewish] synagogues where they were praying for Muslims. While all the time, we curse them, and teach our generations to call them "infidels", and to hate them.

We immediately jump in a 'knee jerk reflex' to defend Prophet Mohammad when someone accuses him of being a pedophile while, at the same time, we are proud with the story in our Islamic books that he married a young girl seven years old [Aisha] when he was above 50 years old.

I am sad to say that many, if not most of us, rejoiced in happiness after September 11th and after many other terror attacks.

Muslims denounce these attacks to look good in front of the media, but we condone the Islamic terrorists and sympathise with their cause. Until now our 'reputable' top religious authorities have never issued a fatwa or religious statement to proclaim Bin Laden as an apostate, while an author, like Rushdie, was declared an apostate who should be killed according to Islamic Shari'a law just for writing a book criticizing Islam.

Muslims demonstrated to get more religious rights as we did in France to stop the ban on the hijab (head scarf), while we did not demonstrate with such passion and in such numbers against the terrorist murders. It is our absolute silence against the terrorists that gives the energy to these terrorists to continue doing their evil acts.

We Muslims need to stop blaming our problems on others or on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. As a matter of honesty, Israel is the only light of democracy, civilization, and human rights in the whole Middle East.

We kicked out the Jews with no compensation or mercy from most of the Arab countries to make them "Jews-free countries" while Israel accepted more than a million Arabs to live there, have their own nationality, and enjoy their rights as human beings. In Israel, women cannot be beaten legally by men, and any person can change his/her belief system with no fear of being killed by the Islamic law of 'apostasy,' while in our Islamic world people do not enjoy any of these rights.

I agree that the 'Palestinians' suffer, but they suffer because of their corrupt leaders and not because of Israel.

It is not common to see Arabs who live in Israel leaving to live in the Arab world. On the other hand, we used to see thousands of Palestinians going to work with happiness in Israel, its 'enemy.' If Israel treats Arabs badly as some people claim, surely we would have seen the opposite happening.

We Muslims need to admit our problems and face them. Only then we can treat them and start a new era to live in harmony with human mankind. Our religious leaders have to show a clear and very strong stand against polygamy, pedophilia, slavery, killing those who convert from Islam to other religions, beating of women by men, and declaring wars on non-Muslims to spread Islam.
Then, and only then, do we have the right to ask others to respect our religion. The time has come to stop our hypocrisy and say it openly: 'We Muslims have to change !

Enough is Enough, Say Mks About Gaza Escalation

Enough is Enough, Say MKs about Gaza EscalationEnough is enough is what MKs had to say on Saturday night, in the wake of the continued escalation in southern Israel.

After Gaza terrorists hit an IDF jeep with a missile and fired a barrage of at least 30 rockets at southern Israel, MKs called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to take action.

MK Danny Danon (Likud), a member of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said that Israel should turn off the electricity in Gaza in response to the continued terror attacks.

“We must turn off the power in Gaza until the rocket fire on southern residents ends," said Danon. “We need to send Hamas into its bunkers and shake Gaza until we bring an end to the threat on the residents of the south.”

MK Ofir Akunis (Likud) said, “The Palestinians are proving once again that there is no choice other than broad military action in Gaza. We must do what it takes to restore the deterrence on the streets of Gaza and bring the quiet back to southern Israel's communities.”

Information and Diaspora Minister Yuli Edelstein also called for action and said, “The zero hour has arrived. The State of Israel is sinful towards itself when it continues to abandon the lives of a million people. It’s time to deal a blow to the terrorist nests and immediately restore Israel's deterrence and the quiet in the south.”

Kadima chairman Shaul Mofaz, a former IDF Chief of Staff and Defense Minister, said on Saturday night, “It is time for a deep and thorough treatment of Gaza terrorism. The terrorist organizations should be engaged in saving their own lives rather than in planning attacks.”

Mofaz added, “The political echelon should allow the IDF to act powerfully wherever necessary. Stuttering by Israel will be answered by acts of terrorism. The heads of the terrorist organizations should be a primary and immediate target. We knew how to reach them in the past. The IDF knows how act. It should be allowed to do so. Israel's security comes before any election. I back up the Prime Minister on this matter.”

The chairman of the State Control Committee, MK Uri Ariel (National Union), said, “The Israeli softness in the face of the growing terrorism in the south over the last month must stop. It’s time to let the IDF win once again, to stop being afraid of the reaction of world nations, to work deep inside Gaza and to finally put an end to the terror state that Israel created with its own hands.”

On Saturday night, IAF aircraft attacked a terrorist squad in northern Gaza that was in the midst of an attempt to fire rockets at southern Israel.

The IDF said in a statement that a direct hit was detected. Sources in the Palestinian Authority said that a terrorist from the Islamic Jihad group was killed in the airstrike.

Later airstrikes targeted nine additional terror targets in northern and southern Gaza.
