The cool of the day, when the breeze steals over the fevered landscape, is an appropriate time for man to hold fellowship with God. We need to have His hand laid on our throbbing temples, stilling, tranquillizing, shedding His serenity throughout our being. What the breath of evening is in summer, fellowship with God will be for thee, my soul; see that thou art not so absorbed with thy sins, thy love, or thy business, as to miss the tryst, when the sun is westering.
God misses His child. - That hour of fellowship was much to Adam, and it was more to God. Love, God's love, craves for fellowship.
As the musician for his lute, as the hart for the brook, as the mother for the twining arms and babbling talk of her child - so does God long for the free outpourings of His child's heart in prayer; misses them when withheld; is jealous when they are fitful and intermittent.
God seeks His child. - He did not wait till Adam found his way back to His side. But He hastened in search of him. So through the glades He comes to seek thee, O truant one! Where art thou, that for these many days thou hast withheld thyself from the hour of prayer? Wilt thou not say with the psalmist, "When thou saidst, Seek ye my face, my heart said unto Thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek?"
God mourns over His child. - These words, in one version, are rendered, Alas, for thee: as though the heart of God were wrung with sorrow for our loss, as well as His. But He does not content Himself with regret. By the pang of travail, by the prick of thorns, by the necessity of labor, by sacrifice and gifts of covering for our nakedness, He brings us back to Himself.
Three years ago, a brutal slaying of three Christians in Malatya, Turkey, shook believers there.
Many believed the murders would stop the gospel in the Muslim nation. But a small, vibrant Christian community has worked to ensure that doesn't happen.
The Malatya incident was perhaps the most tragic and brutal murder of Christians in modern-day Turkey.
On April 18, 2007, German Christian Tilman Geske and Turkish Christians Necati Aydin and Ugur Yuksel were bound to their chairs, tortured, and stabbed at a Bible print shop in Malatya. The throats of the three house church leaders were slit. Five suspects were put on trial.
Murders Leave Their Mark
The horrifying attack has left its mark on the evangelical community.
Pastor Carlos Madrigal says many Turkish believers have received threats over the years, but they never expected to see such an act of violence against fellow believers.
Now, they're much more aware of the risks of being Christian in a Muslim-dominated society.
"For years, we have seen people coming to the church sometimes asking for financial help thinking that if they become Christians, they will get a passport, or best job, or things like that," Madrigal said.
"But now, after the Malatya murders, we saw that people coming are taking seriously, or considering seriously, what it means to become a Christian and it helps at some level to purify the church in Turkey."
Risking Lives for Faith
Originally from Spain, Madrigal fought with the Turkish government for years to win recognition for his evangelical church.
In June 2001, the Evangelical Protestant Foundation of Istanbul was finally granted registration. It was the first time the Turkish government allowed a foundation to provide legal covering for churches.
Most people who come to Madrigal's church, Vakfi Protestant of Istanbul, are former Muslims. He asks Christians around the world to pray for Turkey's small body of believers. They number only about 5,000 in a nation of 70 million people.
"Many people I'm sure are seeking for something else, but they don't know what they are looking for is Jesus Himself," Madrigal said. "By your prayers you are opening doors that will help us to reach all these people."
And some Christian evangelists risk their lives just to share their faith in Turkey.
"When I first felt that little blood trickling down my throat, I thought 'Oh boy, I'm dying now. This is it. This is the end,'" former Muslim Murat Aydin recalled.
Aydin almost died while meeting with a young Muslim soldier named Yasin Karasu. Karasu said he wanted to know more about Jesus. When they met at a church to study the Bible last August, Karasu put a knife to Aydin's throat. He dragged him into the street, placed a Turkish flag on his head and threatened to kill him.
"He was saying 'This man is a traitor. He's a missionary dog and we're not going to allow him to do this stuff and we're going to stop him,'" Aydin recalled.
Turkish 'Identity' Conflict
Even though Turkey was home to the early Christian church, many Turks like Karasu believe Christianity is a Western religion. They believe Turks must be Muslim.
"It's obvious he's been taught and believed to think that it's impossible for a Turk to be a Christian. And the fact that someone like me will claim to be a Turk and yet can be a Christian just drives them mad, I guess," Aydin said.
Karasu dropped the knife and was arrested and sent to prison. Aydin said if he ever sees Karasu again, he will tell him that he forgives him and that he only wants him and other Turks to come to know Jesus.
That's the desire of another evangelist in Turkey, named Ali. His story is told in the DVD "More than Dreams."
Ali was an alcoholic who would often sneak drinks at work. He was an abusive husband and father.
But all that changed when he joined some friends on the Haj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. That's where Ali had an encounter with Jesus in a dream.
After that, he set aside the alcohol and started treating his family and others with respect. He eventually started a church in Ankara right next to a mosque. He's anxious to share Jesus with anyone who will listen.
He too met a young Muslim who was seeking to learn more about Christianity After about a month of prayer and instruction, the young Muslim put a gun to Ali's head.
"I feel at that time, during this process, the Holy Spirit began to settle upon him," Ali said. "I believe that the fact he did not kill me comes from the seed of God's Word entering into his heart."
The young assailant threw down the gun and ran. He's since accepted Christ into his life.
Seeds of the Martyrs
Ali and his family have received many other threats over the years, but he insists he won't stop. He said he's unafraid each time he leaves his home or church office because he knows where he's going.
"I am sure I am going to Jesus and to the presence of God," he said.
So three years after the Malatya murders, Christians like Ali, Aydin and Madrigal are boldly helping to move the Turkish church forward.
"People are coming again to the church as maybe two, three years before again with a thirst for Christ," Madrigal said. "I believe that the seeds planted through the martyrs will bring great fruit in this country."
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake has struck off Papua New Guinea but no tsunami alert has been issued and there are no early reports of casualties.
The US Geological Survey said it had hit at about 0915 local time (2315 GMT) and was centred about 29km (18m) east of the Pacific state's city of Lae.
The quake was registered at a depth of 66km (41m).
The island Papua New Guinea shares with Papua is historically prey to volcanic activity, earthquakes and tidal waves.
Officials told AFP news agency that villagers had reported cracks in buildings and a damaged water tank in the Hidden Valley gold-and-silver mine area, near the town of Lae, but no collapsing houses.
"The earthquake was strongly felt, mostly in the Wau and Bulolo areas," Lawrence Anton, a seismologist at the country's Geophysical Observatory in Port Moresby, added.
"We would expect a bit of damage to village houses."
The Seventh Vial Poured Out
The Destruction of the Beasts Kingdom is Realized
The first four vials have weakened the kingdom of Antichrist, now this last great revolt is about to bring total destruction.
"And the seventh angel poured his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, it is done." Verse 17.
This vial is poured out into the air, the ground has been burned up, the fresh waters have been polluted and the oceans have been turned to blood, now the air men breath is about to be polluted. Food, water and air all corrupted, the kingdom of the beast is destroyed.
Now God speaks: "There came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne," God had been working through men, angels, Satan and the Beast, for seven long years He had been working in the affairs of men and nations. Now He speaks: "It is done".
Remember, on the cross Christ had cried out, "It is finished". God had finished another work, the work of man's redemption. Man's redemption was finished on the cross of Calvary. Hebrews 2:3 asks, "How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation?" My friend, your salvation has been purchased on the cross, you do not have to go to hell to suffer for your sins, Christ has suffered in your place! However, you must repent and call on the Lord to save you. Jesus said, "Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish".
God has another work He is about to finish in our text, the work of rescuing the earth from the disasterous control of Satan. Now God the Father cries from heaven and says, "It is done". God's program to call men out of Satan's kingdom is FINISHED! The day of invitation is past. The sun has set! The harvest is past! Man's day is ended! There will be no people alive on the earth, that will now be saved! True in the next age, the millenial age, many of those born at that time will be saved. But now the door of salvation is forever closed on this present age.
A Great Cataclysmic Event
"And there were voices, and thunders, and lightenings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great." Verse 18
These are the most cataclysmic events in all of history.
1 - The earth will convulse and shake as if the globe is about to disintegrate.
"So mighty an earthquake", we have seen in recent days some incredible earthquakes, with tremendous destruction. but this time the whole earth will shake like leaf on a tree in a wind storm. The damage will be unprecendented, death, destruction and distress.
2 - Cities Will Be Destroyed World-Wide.
"And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came into rememberance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath." Verse 19.
"The great city (Jerusalem) was divided into three parts", probably the modern City of Jerusalem will be divided and destroyed. The Old City may remain intact.
"The cities of the nations fell", one can only imagine the destruction God will bring on the world's cities. Satan's kingdom will be in ruins, nothing will be left standing, most of the unregenerate of the world will perish. We are reminded of the flood, nothing was left intact, no one survived except the righteous.
"Great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath." That is Antichrist's headquarters! (Rome). God will crush Antichrist, and all of man's achievement will crumble in one hour.
3 - The Whole Earth will be Greatly Altered and Continents Changed.
"And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found." verse 20. The islands will vanish into the sea and the mountains will be levelled. The whole topography of the earth will be violently altered and massive flooding will take place.
4 - Hailstones and fire will fall from heaven.
"And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great." Verse 21.
There will be hailstones weighing up to 100 pounds. The Old Testament is full of descriptions of this event, it is called the Day of the Lord. This is the narrow Day of the Lord, one single 24 hour day. The broad "Day of the Lord" encompasses from the rapture to the end of the Millenium.
The following is a description of the seventh vial poured out. Zech.14:4-7,12,13. Isaiah 24:18-20 Isaiah 34:1-8 2 Peter 3:10,12.
Satan's cosmos, Satan's world system, Satan's Kingdom will be destroyed in that awesome hour.
We learn a little later that in the midst of all of that, Christ breaks through the blue with His saints. The armies of the world, in one of the vainest acts of all of history, turn their guns and missiles and swords against Him.The Lord destroys them with the sword of His mouth. I am so glad that I can say that the Lord is my Lord and I am His child.
It is done, man's day is over! Man thinks he is in control, in the current eruption of the volcano in Iceland God has grounded the world's airliners. Man is not in control, God is in control.
We have been looking at the Magi coming to Jerusalem. There are five acts in this drama, last week we looked at two.
! - The Arrival, 2 - The Agitation, now we see the remaining three.
3 - The Acting
"Then Herod when he privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared." verse 7. The first meeting was public. Now this is a private meeting and Herod puts on an act! He desperately wants to get to this baby and kill him! "What time the star appeared", he plays up to their knowledge of astronomy, gets them talking and loosens them up, as if he was interested in astronomy.
"He enquired of them diligently (exactly)," I want to know when this baby was born. The Bible doesn't give their answer, but it appears that vague in their response. verse 16, indicates this vague response. "According to the time which he diligently enquired of them," he evidently added some extra time to be sure the Christ child would be killed when he gave the order to kill all the babies of Bethlehem.
"And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also." verse 8. What an actor! What a hypocrite! What a fool! Matthew drives home his point again that Christ is a king! If Christ wasn't a king Herod would not have reacted so violently.
4 - The Adoration
"When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was." verse 9. The star appears again! They hadn't seen it since they left home, now they see it again!
"When they came and saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy." verse 10. They had left Jerusalem and they didn't know where the king was, now God begins to guide them again. I do not believe that it was a real star, a real star couldn't get right down over a house. I believe that it was the "Shekinah Glory" of God.
"And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankencense, and myrrh." Verse 11. "When they were come into the house", It is now sometime after the baby had been born. "They saw the young child with Mary his mother," Notice; that whenever the child is mentioned with Mary, Jesus is always mentioned first and Mary second. See that in verse 11, 13, 14, 20, 21. The baby is always mentioned first and Mary second!
"They saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped him." Notice they worshipped Him, not Mary. They did what you do only to God, they fell on their faces and worshipped him. Worship belongs only to God. When men sought to worship Paul and Barnabus, Paul said, no! no! When they sought to worship Peter, Peter said, no! no! When John sought to worship an angel, the angel said, no! no! They worshipped him and there was no rebuke! They were doing what all men ought to do! Worship Christ. They worshipped Him not them, not Mary, but Him.
A group of Evangelical African pastors visited America. Someone asked what they thought of the church in America? They said, First - They don`t know what they believe, they have no theology. Second - They don`t know the meaning of worship. The only way you can serve the Lord is out of the overflow of worship!
And so the Magi came and said by the Gold, he is king. They said by the Myrrh, he is man, They said by the Frankencense, he is God.
5 - The Avoidance
"And being warned by God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way." Verse 12.
God takes care of those who worship Him, so He took care of the Magi. God sends them safely home another way. The way to avoid grief and disaster is to crown Christ King of your life and worship Him and trust Him.
Which category are you in? 1 - Are you fearful of Christ? 2 - Are you indifferent to Christ? 3 - Or are you as the Magi? Do you recognize Christ as Man, as King, and as God? Have you yielded to Him to worship Him?
Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi blessed U.S. President Barack Obama as a “friend” over the weekend in a speech published by the London-based al-Hayat newspaper, labeling him “an African from Arab descent, from Muslim descent.”
Gaddafi's speech was delivered in the city of Sirt at an event marking the 24th anniversary of a U.S. attack on Libya.
Gaddafi was quoted by the Arabic-language newspaper as saying that any dispute between Libya and the United States had since vanished. “Now, ruling America is a black man from our continent,” he explained, “an African from Arab descent, from Muslim descent, and this is something we never imagined – that from Reagan we would get to Barakeh (Arabic for Barack) Obama.” He called Obama's presence in the White House “a major historical gain.”
The Libyan leader went on to say that he personally considered the American president “a friend,” explaining, "He knows he is a son of Africa. Regardless of his African belonging, he is of Arab Sudanese descent, of Muslim descent. He is a man whose policy should be supported, and he should be assisted in implementing it in any way possible, since he is now leaning towards peace.”
Gaddafi also pointed out that regardless of what Arab leaders might say in public for English-language consumption, the truth comes out in private conversation, and in Arabic-language speeches at home.
“The Arabs hate America, there is no doubt. There is not an Arab that loves America,” he admitted, “and even the leaders who the United States considers allies or friends, hate it. The external love is merely hypocrisy or pragmatism.”
Gaddafi blamed “Palestine” for the hatred, saying “The Palestinians today are like the Jews of the past – dispersed in exile and persecuted. Now the Palestinians are at a point where they deserve to have the United States on their side and not on the side of the Israelis.”
The Libyan leader has been campaigning for a one-state solution – to be called “Isratine” – in which the so-called “Right of Return” would be implemented for millions of foreign-born Arabs, descendants of those who fled the area during the 1948 War for Independence. The bi-national state that would be created in Gaddafi's vision would be a democratic, nuclear-free country populated equally by Arabs and Jews, and would not be a Jewish nation. Israel, in its current form, would cease to exist.
World renowned author and activist Elie Weisel, a Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor, took out full page ads in major American newspapers to express his views on the city of Jerusalem. Here are his words as published in The International Herald Tribune, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal on April 16, 2010 and in The New York Times on April 18, 2010:
It was inevitable: Jerusalem once again is at the center of political debates and international storms. New and old tensions surface at a disturbing pace. Seventeen times destroyed and seventeen times rebuilt, it is still in the middle of diplomatic confrontations that could lead to armed conflict. Neither Athens nor Rome has aroused that many passions.
For me, the Jew that I am, Jerusalem is above politics. It is mentioned more than six hundred times in Scripture -- and not a single time in the Koran. Its presence in Jewish history is overwhelming. There is no more moving prayer in Jewish history than the one expressing our yearning to return to Jerusalem. To many theologians, it IS Jewish history, to many poets, a source of inspiration. It belongs to the Jewish people and is much more than a city, it is what binds one Jew to another in a way that remains hard to explain. When a Jew visits Jerusalem for the first time, it is not the first time; it is a homecoming. The first song I heard was my mother's lullaby about and for Jerusalem. Its sadness and its joy are part of our collective memory.
Since King David took Jerusalem as his capital, Jews have dwelled inside its walls with only two interruptions; when Roman invaders forbade them access to the city and again, when under Jordanian occupation, Jews, regardless of nationality, were refused entry into the old Jewish quarter to meditate and pray at the Wall, the last vestige of Solomon's temple. It is important to remember: had Jordan not joined Egypt and Syria in the war against Israel, the old city of Jerusalem would still be Arab. Clearly, while Jews were ready to die for Jerusalem they would not kill for Jerusalem.
Today, for the first time in history, Jews, Christians and Muslims all may freely worship at their shrines. And, contrary to certain media reports, Jews, Christians and Muslims ARE allowed to build their homes anywhere in the city. The anguish over Jerusalem is not about real estate but about memory.
What is the solution? Pressure will not produce a solution. Is there a solution? There must be, there will be. Why tackle the most complex and sensitive problem prematurely? Why not first take steps which will allow the Israeli and Palestinian communities to find ways to live together in an atmosphere of security. Why not leave the most difficult, the most sensitive issue, for such a time?
Jerusalem must remain the world's Jewish spiritual capital, not a symbol of anguish and bitterness, but a symbol of trust and hope. As the Hasidic master Rebbe Nahman of Bratslav said, "Everything in this world has a heart; the heart itself has its own heart."
Jerusalem is the heart of our heart, the soul of our soul
I think it is a completely wrong concept in Christian circles to look upon Jesus as a kind of divine nurse to whom we can go when sin has made us sick, and after He has helped us, to say, "Goodbye, Jesus"-and go on our own way. Suppose I go into a hospital in need of a blood transfusion. After the staff has ministered to me and given their services, do I just slip out with a cheery "goodbye"-as though I owe them nothing and it was kind of them to help me in my time of need? That may sound far out to you, but it draws a picture of attitudes among us today. But the Bible never in any way gives us such a concept of salvation. Nowhere are we ever led to believe that we can use Jesus as a Savior and not own Him as our Lord. He is the Lord and as the Lord He saves us, because He has all of the offices of Savior, Christ, High Priest, and Wisdom and Righteousness and Sanctification and Redemption! He is all of these-and all of these are embodied in Him as Christ, the Lord!
When a large segment of the population is facing a drastic cut in income in the face of escalating food prices we have a catastrophic problem in the making. Today we have the simultaneous events of income deflation and food inflation; two high-speed express trains coming down that tracks at each other, a financial crisis colliding with staggering crop losses, which are cutting deeply into available planetary food reserves. Prices of food are again beginning to soar again just as millions are losing the ability to afford a reasonable diet, though little of this is being observed or reported. But soon even the blind will see.
From corn to crude, prices for a wide range of commodities are on the rise across the globe. In recent months, global food prices have been growing at a rate that rivals some of the wildest monthsof 2008, when food riots erupted across the developing world. - January 9th Wall Street Journal
The cold is again freezing oranges in Florida. Temperatures in Miami dropped to 36F; beating the record 37F set in 1938. Officials are saying that hundreds of millions of dollars of food perished. Vegetables were among the hardest hit. At least one major tomato grower, Ag-Mart Produce, has already declared that most of its Florida crop is “useless due to the freeze.” Other vegetable farms were expected to lose their entire crop, and wholesale prices have already increased. “Tomatoes were down around $14 for a 25-pound box; now they are up over $20,” said Gene McAvoy, an agriculture expert with the University Florida, who predicted $100 million in vegetable losses. “Peppers — just after New Year’s they were $8 a box; now they’re up around $18.”
White sugar climbed to the highest price in at least two decades in London on speculation that India, Pakistan and other importers will purchase more of the sweetener as a supply deficit looms. Excess rains in Brazil and a weak monsoon in India hurt sugar-cane output from the world’s two biggest growers. - January 20, 2010
The world faces “mass starvation” following North America’s next major crop failure. And it could even happen before year’s end. So says Chicago-based Don Coxe, who is one of the world’s leading experts on agricultural commodities, so much so that Canada’s renowned BMO Financial Group named the fund after him. A crop failure in North America will have particularly dire consequences for major overseas markets that are highly reliant on U.S. crop imports.
Scientists in England are warning that a “perfect storm” of food shortages and water scarcity now threatens to unleash public unrest and conflict, the government’s chief scientist, Professor John Beddington, has warned. “People do not quite realise the scale of the issue,” said Professor Mike Bevan. “This is one of the most serious problems that science has ever faced.” In Britain the lives of hundreds of thousands of people will be threatened by food shortages. The repercussions of food shortages for any society are devastating. The world faces “mass starvation” following more major crop failures in the United States and other places around the globe.
We are facing a problem that literally has never been faced in human history. Surging population and food demand, food inflation, diminishing world food stocks, drought, flooding, cold, diminished credit, infestations, soil erosion, industrial farming, factory farm pollution, aquifers/wells going dry, relocation of produce for energy production are all slamming into a global financial and economic crisis. And in some places like the United States they don’t have enough farmers. Then on top of everything else we have desertification, which is one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues. New deserts are growing at a rate of 20,000 square miles (51,800 square kilometers) a year. Desertification leads to famine, mass starvation and human migration.
According to Eric de Carbonnel, “There is overwhelming, undeniable evidence that the world will run out of food next year. The 2010 Food Crisis is going to be different. It is the crisis that will make all doomsday scenarios come true. Early in 2009, the supply and demand in agricultural markets went badly out of balance. The world experienced a catastrophic fall in food production as a result of the financial crisis (low commodity prices and lack of credit) and adverse weather on a global scale. Normally food prices should have already shot higher months ago, leading to lower food consumption and bringing the global food supply/demand situation back into balance. This never happened because the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), instead of adjusting production estimates down to reflect decreased production, adjusted estimates upwards to match increasing demand from china. In this way, the USDA has brought supply and demand back into balance (on paper) and temporarily delayed a rise in food prices by ensuring a catastrophe in 2010.”
According to the United States Department of Agriculture U.S. farmers produced the largest corn and soybean crops on record in 2009. And there are people who believe that anyone who believes government figures on anything concerning the economy or anything else is out to lunch.
Very few people in the US have given any serious consideration to the question of food security. This essay should convince people that its time to start. For the most part, we’re not aware of the problem but if we look hard at the ‘hidden’ news we see that the handwriting is on the wall for an unimaginable crisis that will come on us as early as this year.
More than 2.1 million hectares of grain have been destroyed by drought in 2009 in Russia, Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik said. A total of 616,000 hectares have been destroyed in the region, or 70% of the total amount planted.
“The world is blissfully unaware that the greatest economic, financial and political crisis ever is a few months away. It takes only the tiniest bit of research to realize something is going critically wrong in the agricultural market. All someone needs to do to know the world is headed for food crisis is to stop reading USDA’s crop reports predicting a record soybean and corn harvests and listen to what else the USDA is saying.
Specifically, the USDA has declared half the counties in the Midwest to be primary disaster areas, including 274 counties in the last 30 days alone. These designations are based on the criteria of a minimum of 30 percent loss in the value of at least one crop in the county,” continues de Carbonnel.
Israel has warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that any missile attack against Israel by Hizbullah would result in retaliation against Syria, the Sunday Times reported on Sunday.
According to the UK paper, Israel’s missive – sent earlier in April – defined Hizbullah as a “division of the Syrian army,” a military branch of Damascus in Lebanon.
The warning was reportedly delivered to Damascus by a third party.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Al-Hayat reported that Hizbullah minister Nawaf al-Moussawi had said Israel's accusations against Syria were only a ploy meant to divert attention from its failure to relaunch peace talks with the Palestinians.
Last week, the Kuwait-based Al-Rai reported that Syria had transferred Scud missiles to Hizbullah. According to the report, the missiles were recently transferred to Lebanon, prompting a stern Israeli warning that it would consider attacking both Syrian and Lebanese targets in response.
Scud ballistic missiles have a longer range than the rockets previously used by Hizbullah against Israel, and can carry chemical warheads.
On Thursday, the Kuwaiti paper reported that Hizbullah had confirmed receiving a shipment of Scud missiles from Syria. "It's only natural for Lebanon to have the means to defend itself against an Israeli attack," Hizbullah official Hussein Haj Hassan told Al-Manar TV on Friday.
The Syrian leadership has consistently denied the charge.
On Saturday, Reuters quoted US officials as saying that while the "intent" to transfer ballistic missiles to Hizbullah existed, it was doubtful such a transfer had actually taken place.
Concern over flaring tensions between rival factions in Syria’s small Mediterranean neighbor, along with the threat of a renewed civil war, has caused Hizbullah in recent years to tone down its Iranian-aided and Syrian-backed paramilitary activity in favor of expanding its involvement in internal Lebanese politics.
