Messianic Signs - Part 4
Jun 1st, 2011
Art Sadlier

William Blackstone writes of Israel, “Their wonderful preservation as a distinct people through the persecutions, troubles and wanderings of the past 1,800 years down to the present moment is a standing miracle, attesting to the truth of God’s Word.

Fredrick the Great said to his chaplain, Doctor if your religion is a true one, it ought to be capable of a very brief and simple proof; will you give me an evidence of its truth in one word.” The Chaplin answered with one word, “Israel.”

Israel is proof beyond any possibility of a doubt that the Bible is God’s Word. The Old Testament prophets gave a number of signs that would precede the return of Messiah to Israel. These are not signs for the rapture; the rapture is a sign-less event that is and always has been imminent. These signs are events and situations that would precede the second coming of Messiah to the earth to set up the kingdom for Israel. These events cast a long shadow across the world; we know that the signs we see now beginning to be fulfilled will not be fully completed until the seven year tribulation period is over. If we see these signs now beginning to appear we know that the rapture is at least seven years nearer than the second coming of Christ. The rapture is certainly drawing near.

Luke 21:28, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption (rapture) draweth nigh.”

Up to this point we have looked at 13 messianic signs.

Sign # 14 - Irrigation

Amos 9:11-13, “In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.”

We see an interesting sight in verse 13, we see going on simultaneously in one field, ploughing, sowing and reaping. I had always thought that would take place during the millennium. The fact is that this is going on today in Israel, through the ingenuity of Israeli’s at irrigation. They now grow several crops each year in the same land.

They mix fertilizer with water and drip it right onto the roots of the plants with no waste of water. Israel now has a six month rainy season and six months which are hot and dry. Through irrigation and crop rotation you can see in the same field, on one side ploughing, in the middle harvesting and on the other side planting crops.

Amos prophesied that 2,800 years ago and today it is happening. I believe what we are now seeing is but a foretaste of what the future is for Israel.

Sign # 15 - Israel to be a Democracy

Israel does not have a king today, someday they will, but not until Christ returns.

Zechariah 12:5-6a, “And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God. In that day will I make the governors of Judah....”

Here in Zechariah 12 the subject is the last days and the Day of the Lord. The statement is that they would not have a king at that time, instead they will have governors.

Hosea 3:4 affirms the same thing, “For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim.” Hosea proclaimed that 2,800 years ago. “No king” “No sacrifice” “No Temple” “No Priesthood.”

“Many days” = until now 2,800 years later, the next king will be Jesus Christ, Israel’s Messiah. But prior to Christ’s coming to the throne, Israel would have governors. Today Israel is a democratic republic with elected governors or M.K’s, (Members of the Knesset).

Does God know the end from the beginning? These signs are given to prove God’s sovereignty. Unbelieving hearts will not respond, no matter how much evidence God gives to them.

Sign # 16 –The Wars of Israel

Zechariah prophesied about some future wars Israel would fight. In those wars Israel would be totally and miraculously victorious.

Four things about these wars of Israel:

1. This prophecy was written about 600 BC. It cannot refer to Israel’s Old Testament wars.

2. From that date until 1948 Israel never fielded an army. Until May 1948 this prophecy had not been fulfilled.

3. Zechariah’s prophecy cannot refer to the millennial kingdom. All weapons of war will be destroyed before the kingdom begins. The final war at the end of the thousand years will be fought by the Lord Himself, (see Revelation 20:9).

4. Zechariah cannot be referring to the tribulation period. In the two attacks on Israel in the tribulation period it is clearly not Israel but the Lord Himself, who destroys Israel’s enemies, (Revelation 19:15; Ezekiel 38:18-22).

The question remains, when do these wars of Israel occur? The only time left for these wars to occur is between the time Israel became a nation in 1948 and the beginning of the tribulation period. During this time the prophecies of Zechariah have been fulfilled with one more major war yet to come, the war of Psalm 83, Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 35-36.

Since 1948 three major wars have taken place in which Israel has been utterly victorious just as Zechariah described. Zechariah 12:6 we have a description of the situation in which those wars would be fought, “In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.” That is exactly what happened in 1948, 1967 and 1973. In the 1967 war Israel actually regained the old historical part of the city of Jerusalem, “....and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.” This happened in a time when Israel does not have a king but is a democratic republic; that is the present hour.

Notice the description of the Israeli’s in these wars, “ an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and they shall devour all the people round about....” Those three colourful metaphors describe exactly what Israel did to the Arab armies during the three wars between them in the last 60 years. Zechariah’s prophesies have been fulfilled exactly in our lifetime. “On the right and on the left,” Israel was surrounded by attacking armies, yet they defeated them all.

Fulfilled prophecy proves that God is the sovereign Lord of the universe who knows the end from the beginning and that the Bible is His Word.

We drew your attention to the prophecy fulfilled in 1967, “Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place.” In each of these three wars Israel expanded their possession of the Promised Land.

Let us look briefly at those three wars.

The War of 1948

Shortly after Israel declared itself to be an independent state; the Egyptian air force bombed Tel Aviv. Then the combined armies of Syria, Lebanon and Iraq moved to take over the cities of the north and the Galilee area.

The battle tested, well armed army of Jordan moved against Jerusalem and Bethlehem. At the same time a large well armed Egyptian army moved to occupy Gaza and Tel Aviv.

Defeat seemed certain, there was no way a handful untrained, poorly equipped Jewish fighters could stand the might of five well equipped Arab armies.

US Secretary of State Gen. George Marshall warned that Israel would be annihilated in 72 hours. The war lasted six months and Israel trounced the Arabs and drove them out of Israel.

In a Kibbutz south of Tel Aviv a handful of Israeli farmers held off the whole Egyptian army. Sixteen Israeli’s were killed and 400 Egyptians died. Four days later reinforcements arrived and drove the Egyptians back to Egypt.

It was a miracle! It was the fulfilment of Zechariah’s prophecy.

It was a token of what was to follow in the wars of 1967 and 1973. I believe it is pattern for the war of Psalm 83 that lies on the immediate horizon.

The War of 1967

After the war of 1948 the Russians re-armed the Arabs with the finest military weapons. They planned a war to utterly destroy Israel. It would be 200 million Arabs against 2 million Jews.

On May 3, 1967 the combined armies of Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Algeria and Lebanon attacked. The tiny little nation of Israel responded and within six days they conquered the Sinai, Golan Heights, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. It was an incredible, miraculous victory of biblical proportions.

Let us go back to Zechariah 12:6 again, “In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.” Again the Word of God was fulfilled to the letter.

The Bible is the Word, Every line, every jot and every tittle. Front and back and in the middle, The Bible is the Word of God.

Unsaved person you can trust the Word, both for its warnings and for its promised blessings. John 3:36 says, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” John 6:47 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”

Believer you can also trust the Word of God. John 15:16 contains a wonderful promise to believers, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” You can be a fruit bearer, are you?

The War of 1973, Yom Kippur War

The Arabs re-armed again. October 16, 1973 was not only the Jewish Sabbath but it was also Yom Kippur, the most holy day in Israel. No Jew is to eat, work, travel or listen to the radio or TV on that day. A large part of the Jewish army was on leave.

On that day without warning the Arab armies launched their greatest assault on Israel. They attacked with 1,000 aircraft, 4,000 tanks and 800,000 men. Israel was totally caught by surprise! It took some time to mobilize. Israel should have been annihilated.

Again Zechariah 12:6 was fulfilled. Within two weeks the bulk of the Arab armies were driven back and destroyed, the rest fled for their lives.

Israel was poised to take Cairo and Damascus, which they voluntarily declined to do.

Those wars were like something out of the Old Testament, with Israel routing far superior armies. For 25 years after that 200 million Arabs with much of the world’s oil wealth were fearful of little Israel. They sent their children to throw stones at the Israeli army and to blow themselves up to kill few Jews. For 25 years they dared not attack Israel.

Is the Bible the Word of God? Does God know the end from the beginning? Can you trust God? Can you trust His Word?

These signs tell us that we have come down to the end of the age. They indicate that Israel’s Messiah is soon to come. If the second coming of Christ is indicated by these signs, the rapture is at least seven years nearer.

A shout! A trumpet note! A glorious presence in the assure sky! A gasp, A thrill of joy, And we are with Him in the twinkling of an eye.

The trump of God is soon to sound. The body of Christ is soon to go to heaven. The day of God`s vengeance is about to begin. If you are not saved you are in great peril!

“Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head, (Ezekiel 33:4).

The Proposition of These Messages

God has proven beyond any possibility of a doubt that He is the living, sovereign, all knowing, all powerful Lord of the universe, who controls all of history. He has done that through fulfilled prophecy. “Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. (Isaiah 42:9).

Summary of the News
Jun 1st, 2011
Art Sadlier

At the recent G8 Summit President Obama and Prime Minister Harper announced that a plan for a joint security perimeter would be ready by September. This appears to be a first step toward North American Union. Will a North American currency be far behind?

A new North American currency would replace the dollar if it were to collapse. A new dollar de-valued at 50 cents on the current dollar would reduce the government debt by 50% at the expense of the people. Runaway inflation would take care of the rest of the national debt, again at the expense of individual resources.

This would leave multitudes in poverty even as it relieved the national debt. It would also create a climate for bigger government and for world government. The strategy of some in government

may be to drive the government into bankruptcy by borrowing and printing money. This would hasten the agenda of world government.

The opening of the Rafah crossing this week between Egypt and Gaza will inevitably lead to an increased flow of weapons into Gaza from Iran. This is an early sign that the new Egypt will be anti-Israel. The decision came at a time when Egypt had played an important part it the signing of the agreement between the Palestinians and Hamas. This agreement will lead inevitably to the entry of Hamas into the West Bank to carry its war with Israel to greater height from a more strategic vantage point.

The following news report seems to be leading to wide spread acceptance of Hamas as a legitimate part of the Palestinian Government. “EU foreign relations Chief Catherine Ashton has indicated the bloc (EU) is willing to work with the new Palestinian unity government despite US and Israeli opposition.” This is another attempt to put the final nail in Israel’s coffin. The whole process is not leading to peace but to war.

Ashton also added to the impossibility of peace by making the following statement. “"I re-iterate that the EU considers that settlement activities in the West Bank, including east Jerusalem, are illegal under international law, undermine trust between the parties and constitute an obstacle to peace," she said on April 6, after Israel gave settlers permission to build 942 new housing units.

The statement that “settlement activities in the West Bank, including east Jerusalem, are illegal under international law,” is not a true statement. The old adage is that if you repeat something often enough it becomes an accepted fact.

The overall strategy is to put pressure on Israel from every possible source and direction. The end result is intended to be Israel’s disobedience to God in giving up the Promised Land. There are higher forces at work here than men are fully aware of.

There has been a reported attempt to assassinate Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Tuesday, May 24. The attempt probably reflects a power struggle that is taking place within Iran itself. Ahmadinejad's prestige has slipped badly over his dispute with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini on the division of authority.

The Palestinians are fully intending in September to ask the UN to unilaterally declare an independent state on the basis of the 1967 borders. They seem to be assured of a majority vote on the issue. The question is what will happen at that point?

In a recent poll participants were asked what they believe will happen in Judea and Samaria after a Palestinian state is recognized. A large majority of both Jews (70%) and Arabs (62%) responded that they think that following the declaration of an independent Palestinian state, the chances are high that an intifada will erupt in the Judea and Samaria. 58% percent of the Jews also believe that the PA leadership will encourage such an intifada.

It seems that the possibility of a war will be greatly increased. The Palestinians will feel justified in war against Israel and perhaps even anticipate UN support and certainly anticipate the support of all of the Muslim nations. They also seem assured of at least EU moral support. The only alternative both now and in the past for Israel is total surrender to all Palestinian demands. The whole Mideast scenario seems to be heading toward a climax. Could it be the war of Psalm 83?

From Pakistan we have a news item that indicates Pakistan is moving away from American influence and going in another direction. “New satellite images have shown the alarming speed at which Pakistan is constructing a weapons-grade nuclear reactor.” Another news report reveals that Pakistan has purchased 50 of the latest jet fighters from China for immediate delivery.

This just in (May 28) ...

“The White House is going full steam ahead with preparations for an early summit between US President Barack Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas for restarting the peace process,” debkafile's Washington sources report exclusively. The program laid out by Obama in recent speeches is to pressure Israel to accept the 1967 borders. The Palestinians can’t believe their good fortune they do not have to make any concessions. The question is will Netanyahu remain firm on his positions?

It is entirely possible that the likely failure of this endeavour will be the final and total end of American diplomatic involvement in the Mideast. This will make way for the entrance of the EU to fulfill its prophesied last-days peace treaty.

In another somewhat surprising turn of events debkafile has revealed that there has developed an understanding between Saudi Arabia and Israel. In the midst of shrinking allies Israel and Saudi Arabia can support each other even if it is done in a clandestine way. They apparently meet regularly to share intelligence information. Saudi Arabia is somewhat isolated after having lost an ally in Egypt and a source of intelligence gathering. The Saudi’s are also under siege from Iran in a struggle as to who will influence and control the Mideast.

The Saudi’s recently rejected a request by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas for an interview with the Saudi king. The move reflects the fact that two groups have formed in recent days. We have on the one hand the Gulf States along with Jordan and Saudi Arabia. On the other side we have Syria, Iran, Egypt, Hamas and Hezbollah which are a threat to the Saudis. Iran would like to be the leader of the Islamic world in the place of Saudi Arabia and they would like gain the Saudi oil along with the oil of Iraq.

Another development is the alignment that is growing between the Saudi’s and Pakistan. Pakistan like Saudi Arabia is moving away from the US orbit. The Saudis have apparently financed the purchase of fifty of the latest Chinese fighter jets for immediate delivery to Pakistan. Pakistan is currently rushing the completion of a nuclear facility capable of producing material for nuclear bombs. It seems probable that the Saudis are financing this endeavour as well. The Saudis are reported to have an arrangement with Pakistan to provide them with nuclear weapons. The Saudis have no intention of allowing Iran to use their soon coming nuclear weapons to intimidate them.

Pakistan recently at the request of the Saudis, sent troops into Bahrain to help quell an Iranian motivated rebellion. It is now revealed that the Saudis are sponsoring and financing the immigration of thousands of Pakistani families to Bahrain. This is an effort to inject more Sunnis into the largely pro-Iranian Shia population.

In the midst of all of this the US is rapidly being forced out of the Mideast scene. The replacement is both China and Russia.

The changes in the Mideast in recent days are so profound and sudden that we cannot help but see the stage being set for the last act in the drama of man’s day.

The Coming War
Jun 1st, 2011
Art Sadlier

Since 1948 Israel has had three major wars. In each of those wars the Lord miraculously intervened to deliver Israel from certain defeat and gave them great victories. In each war it was as if God was saying to Israel, trust me and believe me and I will protect and bless you. After each war Israel soon left off trusting God and sought to compromise with their enemies.

The scriptures tell us of at least three more wars that are yet ahead for Israel. Each of these wars is separate and distinct from the others. Each of these wars involves a different set of combatants. Each of these wars is fought in different places in Israel. Each of these wars is fought at different time periods. We cannot take the time here to develop these thoughts, other than to say that God is working on Israel through these wars. In each case He is seeking to bring Israel to the end her own resources and to demonstrate His love and power for her and to win the heart of Israel. We see that ultimate objective attained in Zechariah 13:9, “And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”

Although another unspecified war may take place I very much doubt it. The stage has been set for the war of Psalm 83. Let us look at what the scripture says about the war of Psalm 83.

As we begin, we discover that J. Vernon McGee and other Bible scholars claim the situation found in Psalm 83 has never occurred at any point in Israel’s history. We suggest that the scenario in Psalm 83 is now clearly forming at this very moment in the Mideast.

Verses 1-5 describe the situation in the Mideast today. The Palestinians and their allies are conspiring together against God’s people Israel. In fighting against Israel they are fighting against God. In verse 4 we have an accurate description of their basic goal, “... let us cut them off from being a nation.” In verse 5 we see the confederacy that has now formed against Israel.

Verses 6-8, actually names these nations and groups. Edom has been identified in a study by J. De Young as the Palestinians. The Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagarines represent Arab peoples. Ammon is represented by Jordan which today consists of a majority of Palestinians. The Philistines dwelt in Gaza the territory now controlled and represented by Hamas. The inhabitants of Tyre would appear to be the present day Hezbollah who now control Lebanon, while Assur is Syria. These nations disappeared from the world stage for many centuries and have now returned to the world scene.

These remarkable verses describe the present day enemies of Israel who dwell within and around the borders of Israel. In verse 12, we have a detailed description of the present day activities and attitude of the Palestinians, “Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.” In the parallel passages in Ezekiel 36, we have the same amazing description of the attitude and objectives of these very people today. This ties together Psalm 83 with Ezekiel 35-36.

Ezekiel 36:2, “Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession.” This is exactly what the Palestinians are now claiming; this is a situation that has never happened before in all of history. These verses are speaking to a situation that is unique to the present hour, a situation in which the antecedents of the Palestinians never found themselves.

In Ezekiel 36:5 we have the same unique situation, “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.” We have again the very actions and attitudes of the Palestinians in Israel today, a situation unique to the present hour. These scriptures are speaking to the present day, not the past or the future. Notice the attitude of the Lord as He views the situation in Israel today as the Palestinians defy Him. We see the term, “....the fire of my jealousy.” The anger of the Lord is now being kindled against Israel’s enemies who are about to go to war against her.

In Psalm 83:9-17 we have the judgment which will fall on these antagonists of Israel. I believe we have the results of the coming war. Verse 14-17 detail the complete destruction that will fall on Israel’s enemies in the soon coming war, “O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.

Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish.”

In the parallel passages in Ezekiel 35-36 and in Isaiah 17 we have the same total destruction of Israel’s present day enemies portrayed. In Isaiah 17 we see the total destruction of Damascus, even the nuclear destruction of Damascus may be implied?

In Psalm 83:18 we have glimpse into the purposes of God in this devastating judgment. “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.” The only way this world will ever be arrested and turn from sin and disobedience will be through judgment. Prosperity and good times seem to bring hardness of the hearts of men and often drives men further away from God.

I suggest that the judgment that falls on these gentile nations during the war of Psalm 83, which is prior to the tribulation period, and the judgment in the war of Ezekiel 38-39 early in the tribulation period; will be preparation for multitudes of gentile people to come to faith in Christ during the tribulation period. Multitudes will harden their hearts and perish, but multitudes will be saved during that awesome time as they are moved by the fear of God.

There is a phrase in Habakkuk 3:2 that describes the nature of our God, “ wrath remember mercy.” I believe that as the tribulation period begins our gracious God will remember mercy as his wrath is about to be poured out on a sinful rebellious world. Remember the two major purposes of the tribulation period are to bring judgment and to bring salvation.

There are two things which must happen before Israel can be restored to the land in peace. First - Edom must be judged and second – Israel’s past sins must be judged and forgiven. Judgment was fulfilled on Edom in the past but we have here also the end time judgment that still awaits Edom.

The World in Convulsion
Jun 1st, 2011
Art Sadlier

Wherever we look today we see a world in convulsion. A moral revolution has swept across our world and the moral foundations of societies have been destroyed. Compromise has swept over the Church of Jesus Christ and the world has flooded in. Those old enough to remember the fundamental church of 50-60 years ago cannot recognize the New Evangelical church of the present hour as being related to the church they once new.

In the following quotation of Joseph Farah he describes the convulsion that has taken place in America as its foundations have been swept away.

[“The very will of the American people is under attack in a thousand ways. It’s under attack through the popular culture with its desensitizing images and messages. It’s under attack by the establishment press, whose members think they are so much wiser than the simple rubes who work hard, provide for their families and serve their country faithfully and heroically in times national emergency. It is under attack from high priests in black robes who issue decrees that make a disgrace of the concept of rule of law and mock the will of the people. It’s under attack from elitists who run major foundations. It’s under attack from globalists who seek to destroy America’s national sovereignty. And it is under attack from a central government that has broken the shackles deliberately placed on it just over 200 years ago by our constitution.]

The onslaught is coming fast and furious from these enemies of liberty”

In Ephesians we read about a great spiritual warfare that rages in high places, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places, (Ephesians 6:12). In Daniel 10:13, 20 we read more about this spiritual warfare that rages in our world.

Those who are seeking to live their lives as pleasing to the Lord and are sensitive to God’s will and his Word are constantly aware of this warfare. They are grieved by the world’s sensual and rebellious music that fills the airwaves wherever you go. The sensuous music of the world even penetrates many evangelical churches. It seems as that if you bring the world’s music, with its sensual beat, into the church the world comes in with it in droves. Our eyes are bombarded with sensuality at every turn. False philosophies and false concepts are everywhere. Pleasure and materialism are the gods that are worshipped and bowed down to.

On the international scene the move toward world government is promoted by a drive for a one world economic system, by a world court that is fast forming, by an environmental movement that basically moving to establish central control over the nations and people of the world. The UN is moving to control every facet of life on planet earth through control of trade and commerce. America has long stood in the way of world government and must be destroyed to make way for it.

The most evident aspect of this spiritual warfare is found in the massive movement to destroy Israel.

The nations of the world are moving in unison to bring Israel to the place of surrender to the demands of an Arab world openly committed to destroying her. The actors are men the movers behind them are spiritual beings and spiritual powers. Nowhere in the history of man has this spiritual warfare been more evident than in the struggle that has gone on in the Mideast, a struggle which now seems to be coming to a climax.

To the spiritually discerning eye there is a great spiritual warfare going on in our world. Those who know their bibles know that God will someday, perhaps soon, enter directly into this scenario and bring the world into a period of convulsion that will not end until God is glorified in His creation.

During that time God will chasten Israel and judge a rebellious world. The end of it all will be that God will be glorified in this world and His people Israel will restored to the promised blessing.

“Therefore say unto the house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land, (Ezekiel 36:22-24).

What Lies Ahead for Israel??? #2
Jun 1st, 2011
Art Sadlier

I am not a prophet nor do I have any special revelation from the Lord, but I believe that we can know what the lord has in store for Israel in the future by carefully studying His word.

What is ahead for Israel prior to the beginning of the tribulation period, what scenario do we find in the scriptures? What is in store for Israel when the tribulation period begins, what is the scenario that scriptures foretell?

Today the nations of the world are determined to divide the land of Israel, every nation in the world, including Canada, is advocating this division. The type of division that the UN, the Arab countries and the majority of nations are seeking will divide Israel in such a way that ultimately Israel will cease to exist. Even as the Islamic countries and groups around Israel are preparing a war of annihilation they are planning to go to the UN and have a ruling that would force Israel to surrender. This surrender would be to borders that would be, as Prime Minister Netanyahu has said, are indefensible. A tremendous momentum has begun to bring Israel to the point of annihilation. Israel is now without hope as viewed from a human perspective.

Israel is God’s special place on earth, Jerusalem is His future world capital and the Jews are His chosen people. Satan has repeatedly tried to destroy them throughout history and the spirit of antichrist is moving today on the Muslim nations and peoples to bring about Israel’s demise. If you destroy Israel, you destroy God’s revealed plan for the earth. However God has made a promise to Israel, “For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God" (2 Samuel 7:24). The nations of the world will fail to bring about Israel’s demise.

The first issue we will seek to deal with is the issue of Israel’s survival. The first question is what will be Israel’s situation as the soon coming tribulation period begins?

First we discover that as the tribulation period begins the Third Temple will be rebuilt, and the Temple worship will be restored. We see this in 2 Thessalonians 2:4, we see a rebuilt temple at the mid-tribulation point, and the worship evidently will be restored or how could it be terminated?

In Daniel 9:27 we see that the signing of the Peace treaty begins the seven year tribulation period and it evidently grants Israel the right to rebuild the Temple and re-establish the Temple worship. Daniel 9:27, “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” If Antichrist terminates the Temple worship at the mid-tribulation point, it must have been restored at the beginning of the tribulation period. The Peace Treaty evidently will give Israel the right to rebuild the Temple.

Today in Israel the preparations for rebuilding the Temple and restoring the worship have virtually been completed. The furnishings and instruments have been prepared and are ready for use. The blueprints for the Temple are being prepared. Hundreds of priests have been trained and harps have been made for the Temple orchestra.

If the Temple worship is restored at the beginning of the tribulation period, the obvious conclusion is that the Palestinians will no longer be present in sufficient numbers or with sufficient power to have any effect or influence on Israel as the tribulation period begins. The situation today precludes the possibility of Temple construction or the restoration of Temple worship because of the presence and obstinacy of the Muslim nations and Muslim peoples.

In line with that scenario we discover that Israel will be dwelling in peace and security in the first part of the tribulation period. We learn this in Ezekiel 38: 8 where we read, “After many days thou shalt be visited: (referring to Russia) in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.” The setting here is early in the tribulation period. It has to be early in the tribulation period because that is the only time Israel will enjoy a brief period of peace until the Prince of Peace comes. It will be a temporary peace that comes after the Peace Treaty is signed by Antichrist to initiate the Tribulation period.

The fact that the Temple is rebuilt and that there is peace indicates that the Palestinians and their associates will be totally subdued at that time and perhaps moved out of Israel altogether. That requires a monumental change in the present situation.

If we are as close to the tribulation period as the signs around us would seem to indicate, there must take place a dramatic change in the present Mideast scenario. There is an obvious conviction among Israel’s enemies at this moment that they are on the verge of their long sought victory over Israel. We could fill a book with statements and quotes as to how they fully intend to annihilate Israel. The commitment of the Arab nations and the rest of the world powers along with the Palestinians, Hamas and Hezbollah to destroy Israel in conjunction with the UN must be somehow frustrated and subdued. How will this subduing take place?

Let us consider for a moment where the present situation is headed. Virtually the whole world is committed to a two state solution. Their intention is to divide the land along the 1967 borders. This would make it impossible for Israel to defend herself from the war now being prepared for by Israel’s enemies all around her. Thousands of missiles and tanks would be moved into the West Bank, everyone knows that Israel would be unable to defend herself.

Even now a motion is being prepared to be presented to the UN in September; this motion would unilaterally declare a Palestinian State on the 1967 borders. Following that, if not included in it, would be motion that some 4-5 million Palestinians refugees would arbitrarily be granted the right of return to homes in Israel proper, homes their ancestors abandoned in 1948. This move, in and of itself would bring about Israel’s demise.

At some point along the way Israel will have to resist these moves. It is likely that at some point hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Arabs will attempt to crash Israel’s borders and return to the homes they abandoned in 1948. The chaos would result perhaps in another intifada.

One of the most common refrains we hear as this whole process develops is that war is inevitable. There can be no successful peace process, the Arabs do not want peace, though they mouth the words to gain leverage in the West. We have heard over and over again that Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinians and the Arab nations will settle for nothing less than Israel’s demise. The nations immediately around Israel have been for some time, planning and arming and preparing for a war to annihilate Israel. There are as many as 70-80,000 missiles ready to be launched against Israel by Hezbollah alone. One Hamas leader said boldly that the Jews have been returned to the land so that we can totally annihilate them.

This coming war will be , I believe the war of Psalm 83, also referred to in Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 35-36. (See the article entitled “The Coming War)

This coming war will bring severe destruction on northern Israel but Israel will survive. On the contrary this war will bring about the demise of the Palestinians and their allies, Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and Jordan. The world will be shaken by the magnitude of this war and by the results. The world will be traumatized by the use of chemical weapons and perhaps nuclear weapons. There will be a temporary respite for Israel as the nations stand in awe of what has happened and at what God has done.

The whole Mideast scenario will be dramatically changed. The Palestinians will not gain control over the Temple Mount as they now demand. They will not obtain an independent state in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), even though the whole world has now committed it to them. Syria will not regain the Golan Heights. Hamas will not drive Israel into the Mediterranean Sea and gain control of Israel from the Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea. Hezbollah will not destroy Israel as they have boasted.

Instead of Israel’s destruction her enemies will be decimated. The situation will be ripe for the Antichrist to come on the scene and deceive the nations with a false peace proposal. The peace proposal will probably involve a great disarmament program.

After the Peace Treaty has been signed, the Islamic nations beyond Israel’s borders who were not involved in the war of Psalm 83 will recover from the deception and intimidation. They will regroup and wage the war of Ezekiel 38-39. This war will take place early in the tribulation period while Israel is still enjoying the effects of the peace treaty. I believe the parting of the land spoken of in Joel 3:2 will occur later, at the mid-tribulation point (see Matt 24:15 and following).

I have given you my understanding of what I believe the scriptures teach in this area. It is your responsibility, to search the scriptures yourself, and come to your own understanding of what they teach. Read Psalm 83, Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 35-36.
