Ukrainian Vote Expected to Reflect Pro - Western Parliament

Ukrainians vote today (Sunday) in an election anticipated to install a pro-West government, thus strengthening President Petro Poroshenko’s aim to end the separatist conflict in the east of the country, but could manage to actually increase tension with Russia, Reuters reported.

Wrapped up warm on a clear, cold day, people headed out to the polls for the first time since the protests in Kiev broke out last winter, which forced Moscow-backed Victor Yanukovich to fold and welcomed a pro-Europe Poroshenko as its leader.

Throughout the regions in the east which are controlled by the army, there are armed soldiers wearing bullet proof jackets which guarded the polling stations that are under the Ukrainian flat. However, areas held by pro-Russian rebels did not participate in today’s voting, and will hold a separate election on November 2nd.

Top Official Insists Israel - U.S. Relations are Fine

Despite the perception that there is a 'crisis,' relations between Israel and the US are good, says top security official Amos Gilad.

Despite the perception that there is a “crisis” in relations between Israel and the US, the relationship between the two countries is quite healthy, according to Amos Gilad, Director of Policy and Political-Military Affairs and Chairman of Security Relations with Regional and Strategic Partners of the Ministry of Defense.

If there are perhaps tensions between leaders when they meet on top level issues, Israelis need to remember that there is a deep, strong relationship between the two sides further “down below.”

Speaking over the weekend, Finance Minister Yair Lapid said that "there is a crisis with the United States and it should be treated as a crisis."

Lapid was speaking in Tel Aviv amid reports that Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon was snubbed by the Obama administration and was denied meetings with Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry during his trip to Washington last week.

"The relations with the United States are essential and important for Israel and we should do everything in the world to end the crisis," he added. "If we were not in a crisis, I have no doubt that Israel would have participated in the regional conference in Egypt and there is great significance to this."

Whether or not Ya'alon was "snubbed," relations between Israel and the US were still excellent, Gilad countered.

"A meeting between defense ministers and vice-presidents is the top of the pyramid," he told Israel Radio in an interview. "But there is an active and strong infrastructure down below. There are very strong ties between the IDF and the US Army, which is a strong peg in the array of defense of Israel."

Gilad also added that despite the ongoing Arab violence in Jerusalem, he did not believe a "third intifada" was in the offing.

"We tend to label incidents and even trends very quickly, the better to generate headlines," he said. "There are a lot of tense spots in our relationship with the Palestinians, but we have the means to deal with them."

The Delusive Glory of This World's Kingdoms
Oct 26th, 2014
Thought For The Week
A.W.Tozer
Categories: Commentary;Exhortation

The delusive quality of all human glory is taught throughout the Bible, and with bold emphasis in the New Testament. It has been taught also with great clarity by the saints and faithful brethren since the days of the apostles.

Satan once tried to bring about the downfall of Christ by offering Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory in them.

In presenting to the Man Jesus the glory of the world he was shrewdly taking advantage of a known weakness in the human race. The trick should have worked, and it would have worked but for one thing: This was no fallen man Satan was attempting to seduce. It was a sinless Man full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom whose penetrating glance pierced the world's attractive exterior.

Beneath its gaudy allurements He saw the corruption and the decay. He knew its glory was but bait to catch foolish victims. He knew its bright promises were all lies. Our Lord saw what other men could not see. He saw not beauty but death, a garish death that must be purchased at the price of the soul. What He saw revolted Him -- He would have no part of it!

All this Jesus knew; and Satan for all his wisdom did not know that He knew it. The devil is familiar with the Bible, but still he did not know or he would not have attempted the impossible, and that to his own confusion and permanent loss of face!

Here is sufficient proof that the devil is wise -- but not wise enough!

"Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve." Matthew 4:10 A.W.Tozer

MURSITPINAR, Turkey - Islamic State militants tried to seize a border post in the Syrian town of Kobani on the Turkish frontier overnight but were repulsed by Kurdish fighters, Kurdish officials and a monitoring group said on Sunday.

Islamic State fighters have been trying to capture Kobani, known as Ayn al-Arab in Arabic, for over a month, pressing their assault despite US-led air strikes on their positions and the deaths of hundreds of their fighters.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors violence in Syria's three-and-a-half-year-old conflict, said on Sunday it had confirmed that 815 people had been killed in the fighting for the town over the last 40 days - more than half of them Islamic State fighters.

Idris Nassan, a local Kurdish official, said Islamic State fighters had shelled Kobani's border gate on Saturday night but Kurdish fighters had pushed them back in the south and west.

"Of course they will try again tonight. Last night they brought new reinforcements, new supplies, and they are pushing hard," he said.

WASHINGTON - US Senator Dianne Feinstein, chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, said recent "lone wolf" terrorism attacks show that propaganda from groups like Islamic State are inspiring attacks on US soil.

"One of the problems is that the Internet as well as certain specific Muslim extremists are really firing up this lone wolf phenomenon.

"These attacks and the multiplicity of attacks in 2014 show that their propaganda is having some effect," the Californian Democrat said on CNN's "State of the Union" television program.

Why Should We Fear the Recognition of a Palestinian State?
More than twelve years after Israel’s rejection of the Arab Peace Initiative, and despite the fact that acceptance of this initiative in principle could pave the way to peace with the Arab world, the Israeli leadership still believes in the possibility of advancing this aim without recognizing a Palestinian state or taking concrete measures toward its establishment.

The peace process serves to maintain the conflict
John Kerry is insane. At least that is what Sigmund Freud would say because he keeps restarting the peace process, expecting a different result. For any negotiation to end in an agreement, the parties to the negotiations must want an agreement at a price they are willing to pay or must need an agreement regardless of the price. The US, EU and the UN undermine their own efforts to achieve an agreement because they ensure that the Palestinians don’t need an agreement by covering the total cost of Palestinian “resistance” including violence and incitement and they turn a blind eye to Palestinian corruption.

Jordanian ambassador says that continued Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria would jeopardize peace agreement.

Jordan's ambassador to Israel, Walid Obeidat, warned on Sunday that continued Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria would jeopardize the peace agreement between the two countries.

Obeidat was speaking at an event marking 20 years since the signing of the peace agreement between Jordan and Israel, which was held at the Rabin Center in Tel Aviv.

"All of these actions are inconsistent with international humanitarian law, and if the construction continues, it will eventually jeopardize the agreement between Israel and Jordan," the ambassador said.

"Continued settlement activity and any harm to the status quo in the Muslim holy places endanger the peace agreement," added Obeidat.

The ambassador’s comments come on the heels of reports that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided to end the de facto building freeze in Judea and Samaria.

Channel 2 News reported on Sunday that Netanyahu intends to approve thousands of new housing units and roads at a cost of millions of shekels.

Obeidat’s remarks also come amid tensions over the Temple Mount. Several days ago it was reported that Jordan's King Abdullah II is pressing Israel not to pass a bill allowing Jews to exercise their religious rights and pray on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism.

Under Jordan's auspices, the site has been the scene of anti-Semitic graffiti, the destruction of Jewish artifacts, and constant violent Arab rioting.

However, the Jordanian envoy in the Palestinian Authority claimed it was Arab residents who were being victimized, saying, "Jordan's foreign minister has sent strongly-worded messages to foreign ministers of member states of the UN Security Council and to the UN demanding an end to the systematic assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and on worshipers."

Asked about Jordan's chances of thwarting Jewish prayer rights on the Mount, he said they would succeed just as Jordanian pressure last month caused Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to cancel construction on a second access ramp to the Temple Mount's only gate allowed for non-Muslim entry.

After a recent round of rioting, Netanyahu vowed to "maintain the status quo" on the Mount.

Part of the dialogue in the meeting with Israeli Foreign Ministry and EU will be the threat of jihad on Jewish communities in Europe.

For the first time, Israel's Foreign Ministry is set to discuss, with representatives of the European Union (EU), the jihadist terror threat against Jewish communities in Europe.

Israel and the Commission of the European Union will hold the eighth meeting of experts discussing how to combat anti-Semitism and racism, in Jerusalem on October 27 and 28.

Anti-Semitism has been on the rise in Europe the past few years, with many attributing this fact to increasing Muslim populations throughout Europe. Tensions and attacks particularly flared anew over the summer during Israel's Operation Protective Edge.

The dialogue subjects will include the attack on the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels in June of this year - where a gunman opened fire and killed 4 people, including 2 Israeli citizens; the threat of jihad on European Jewish communities; the increased levels of anti-Semitism in the European Union; and the continued trend of growing anti-Semitism on the Internet and how to deal with it.

Also to be discussed are the responses to initiatives to prevent ritual slaughter and circumcision throughout Europe, preserving the memory of Holocaust education, tolerance in place of anti-Semitism, as well as encouraging the use of Interfaith Dialogue as a tool for reducing racism and anti-Semitism.

The dialogue will be opened festively by Yuval Rotem, head of Public Diplomacy in the Foreign Ministry's office.

The Israeli delegation will include Akiva Tor, head of the Diaspora and Religions Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gideon Bachar, director of the department to combat anti-Semitism in the Foreign Ministry. Experts from Yad Vashem, the State Attorney's Office and the Association of Israeli Students will also participate.

Ambassador Lars Faaborg-Andersen, head of the EU Delegation to Israel and Chiara Adamo, head of the Fundamental Rights and Children's Rights of the EU, will lead the European Union delegation. Joining them are diplomats and officials engaged in the fight against anti-Semitism and racism.

Hamas: Israel will Pay If Gaza is not Rehabilitated

A senior Hamas official threatened Israel with violence on Saturday.

Khalil al-Haya, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said that Israel will be the first to pay the price for the delay in rebuilding Gaza after the recent war.

Speaking with Hamas’s Al-Aqsa TV, Al-Haya said that the demands placed as conditions for rebuilding Gaza “hurt the feelings of the Palestinian people, and they will blow up the region.”

He went on to warn that the Gazan public's patience is running out, and that if the “occupation” does not meet the agreements signed in Cairo, a military response may be required. Al-Haya stressed that the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s so-called “armed wing”, is able to withstand any Israeli “aggression”.

Israel has demanded that Gaza be demilitarized as a condition for its rehabilitation, while Hamas has demanded an airport and a seaport.

Hamas has repeatedly declared that it would reject any attempts to disarm the terrorist groups in Gaza, while Israel has outright rejected Hamas’s demands for an airport and seaport.

While Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu originally conditioned the rehabilitation of Gaza on its disarmament, the issue did not come up at an international donors’ conference on rebuilding Gaza, which was held in Cairo.

Israeli officials admitted that in reality, the rehabilitation of Gaza was not contingent upon its demilitarization but only on a ceasefire, adding that Israel will demand the demilitarization in return for the continued development of the coastal enclave.

Al-Haya’s comments come hours after another Hamas official, Mahmoud Al-Zahar, declared the constant cycle of violence in Jerusalem an "intifada".

"Escalating the resistance in the city is the solution to Israeli aggression," Zahar told Hamas news agency Al-Risala.

Chief PA negotiator says delay due to Egyptian closure of border with Gaza declared after state of emergency instated in Sinai.

Israeli-Palestinian talks on a lasting Gaza truce are to resume after mid-November, instead of Monday as initially planned, the chief Palestinian negotiator Azzam al-Ahmad told AFP Sunday.

The announcement came after other Palestinian officials said the talks had been postponed due to Egypt's closure of the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip.

Egypt closed Rafah, the only crossing into Gaza not controlled by Israel, and is set to create a buffer zone between Sinai and Gaza after more than 30 of its soldiers were killed in two attacks by Islamist terrorists Friday.

Egypt also imposed a state of emergency on parts of the Sinai, which also borders Israel.

"The indirect talks between Israelis and Palestinians have been postponed until the second half of November," Ahmad told AFP from Cairo.

There was no immediate confirmation from Israel.

Earlier, Hamas official Khalil al-Haya told his Islamist movement's television that Palestinian delegates cannot leave Gaza since Egypt has closed the Rafah crossing. In the same interviewed he threatened that Israel would be the first to "pay the price" if talks broke down.

Last week, Hamas deputy leader Mussa Abu Marzuk said indirect talks with Israeli negotiators for a durable ceasefire in Gaza would resume on Monday.

The talks are aimed at building on an August 26 ceasefire that ended a devastating 50-day summer war between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas and other Palestinian factions, including the Fatah movement of president Mahmoud Abbas, are taking part in the Egyptian-mediated indirect talks alongside Israel, and had a first round of negotiations last month.

The Palestinians are demanding that the talks lead to a lifting of an eight-year blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza, including the opening of a port and an airport - demands rejected by Israel, which says they will be used to arm and supply terrorist groups again.

CAIRO - Egypt's foreign minister will contact ambassadors posted in the country to request additional security support two days after some of the worst anti-state violence since Islamist President Mohamed Morsi's ouster last year.

At least 33 security personnel were killed on Friday in the Sinai Peninsula bordering Israel and Gaza, in an attack on a checkpoint that bore the marks of assaults claimed by Egypt's most active militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis.

In an e-mailed statement on Sunday, the foreign ministry called for support from the international community for "firm, decisive action by the government" to confront militants.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri was quoted by the state MENA news agency as saying he would reach out to foreign diplomats in Cairo to appeal for more support "politically and economically".

Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday sent an urgent message to U.S. President Barack Obama, asking that he intervene to stop the tensions in Jerusalem.

According to Channel 10 News, Abbas called on Obama to act to end what he called the “Israeli escalation” in eastern Jerusalem. Abbas warned in the letter that the steps taken by Israel “will bring about a widespread explosion that cannot be controlled.”

The report noted that Abbas’s letter made no mention of last week’s terrorist attack in Jerusalem. Three-month-old Chaya Zisel Braun was killed in that attack and on Sunday, a 22-year-old woman who was injured in the attack died in hospital.

The car terror attack last Wednesday was the latest in what has come to be known as the “silent intifada”.

Abbas’s letter to Obama comes one day after Hamas official Mahmoud Al-Zahar declared the constant cycle of violence in Jerusalem an official "intifada".

"Escalating the resistance in the city is the solution to Israeli aggression," Al-Zahar told Hamas news agency Al-Risala.

He also slammed the Hamas-Palestinian Authority (PA) unity government’s security coordination with Israel.

"The security coordination is a problem in that is suppresses the intifada against Israeli aggression," stated Al-Zahar. "The people in the West Bank [Judea-Samaria -ed.] are fighting on two fronts: the first is the Israeli occupation and the second is the PA's security forces."
