“The Coming End of the Age”
by A. Sadlier
January 6th, 2020

The signs of the end of the age are all around us. The world as we have known it is passing away. Our world is changing with lightning speed. The German poet Goethe said, “The hardest thing to see is that which is right in front of your eyes.”

I think very few realize the tsunami of change that has swept over our world in recent days. The mindset of progressive socialism is revealed in in an article by a New York Times columnist who wrote, “He couldn’t wait for his entire generation to die off so America could finally become the progressive paradise it was meant to be.”

Progressive socialism is the cry to tear down everything society has been based upon in the past and build a socialist utopia, which will be a nightmare as demonstrated by socialism in the last century and recently in Venezuela. Venezuela has larger oil reserves than Saudi Arabia, yet today, because of socialism, her people are literally starving. The stage is being set for the global socialist Kingdom of Antichrist.

Scripture teaches and Jesus said that this present age will someday come to an end. Daniel used the terminology, “The time of the end.” Jesus said, “Then shall the end come.” Paul said, “In the last days.”

The Bible is filled with the message that someday the world as we know it will be terminated by the judgment of God. The flood of Noah’s day is a forewarning of God to this present world. Jesus said. “But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

The scriptures also tell us that prior to this coming judgment, the Lord Jesus Christ will come to the clouds of the sky and with the sound of the trumpet call His followers to be with Him in heaven.

Jesus promised this to His disciple in John 14:2-3, “In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” Paul also describes this scene in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

May I ask you an interesting question, a question I suggest you ponder as you read these articles? Where will you fit into this coming end time scenario? Will you be numbered among the followers of Christ or will you remain on earth at that time to be engulfed in the judgment of God?

The scripture tell us that as the end times descend upon the world there will be a number of signs that will indicate the nearness of the coming the judgment of the tribulation period. Jesus said in Luke 21:28, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” In this verse Jesus is talking about deliverance by the rapture from the coming tribulation period.

The amazing fulfilled prophecies we see today prove beyond any doubt that God exists and that the Bible is His Word.

Today we have been seeing these signs beginning to be fulfilled all around us.

You do not have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. Jesus used a weather analogy to highlight how people failed to realize that they were about to witness the first coming of Christ to the earth 2,000 years ago. In Luke 12:54-56 we read Christ’s rebuke to that generation. “And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?”

If ever there was a generation that could see the signs of the coming Day of the Lord judgment, it is this generation.

Messianic Signs of the End of the Age

In the ages past, the Hebrew prophets foretold that before the promised Messiah came to set up His kingdom on earth there would be specific signs that would signal the end of the age.

Not until the return of the Jews to Israel in 1948 have these signs been taken seriously. Today these signs have become crystal clear, even to the casual observer. These signs prove that the coming of Christ is near at hand.

There are 25 Messianic prophecies that have been fulfilled in Israel in our generation. We will look at some of them.

The First Sign of the end of the age, is the return of Israel to the land God gave her. That sign alone is enough prove that the Bible is God’s Word and that a Sovereign God is upon the throne in heaven.

After 1900 years of dispersion among the nations without a national existence, Israel has returned to the place God appointed for her. For 1900 years Israel has been scattered to the four corners of the earth, among every nation on the face of the earth because of unbelief and disobedience.

And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life” (Deuteronomy 28:64-66).

This was written 3,500 years ago. For the last 2,000 years that prophecy has been fulfilled to the letter. What an astounding fulfillment of prophecy! How can anyone doubt the Bible is God’s Word?

That is the major reason that God has given us Bible prophecy. God reveals before it happens what will happen, so that He might authenticate His Word.

God has given to us an absolute, fool-proof method of confirming the Bible as the Word of God. Any person on earth can study Bible prophecy and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Bible is God’s Word.

There is in the heart of God a desire to share what He is going to do. “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7).

Only a sovereign, almighty God can tell exactly what will happen 3,500 years before it happens. Another example is found in Leviticus 26:32-33, “And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it. And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.” Fifteen hundred years later that was fulfilled in detail and it lasted for 2,000 years. Along with that prophecy, we have the prophecy of the return of Israel to the land.

Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come. Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel” (Ezekiel 11:16-17). “For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land” Ezekiel 36:24).

Today seven million Jews have returned to Israel out of every nation on earth. Only a God who is the Lord of history can reveal 2,800 years before it happens, what will happen.

In conjunction with that regathering, God’s Word declares that Christ will rule over a regathered Israel. There are 1845 references to this in the Old Testament and 318 in the New Testament. Only the hardened heart of unbelief could fail to recognize the hand of God in Israel’s return.

The Bible is the Word of God – Every line, every jot, every tittle – Front back and in the middle.

The Second Sign of the end of the age, is Israel’s rise from desolation to incredible productivity. The Lord had warned Israel that if they rebelled against Him He would remove them from the land and the land would become a desolate wasteland. “So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land desolate…” (Ezekiel 6:14a).

Mark Twain visited Israel 150 years ago. He wrote, “That it was the most God forsaken, desolate place in the world. Why anyone would want to live in the midst of such desolation is more than I can understand.”

A lot has changed since then. Israel is now a land that has gone, in our lifetime, from desolation to productivity.

It is a land of orchards and vineyards which ships all kinds of fruits around the world. It is a land that ships flowers to Holland and Europe. Europe depends on Israel’s vegetables all winter. It is a land that grows cotton in abundance. It is a land of grain and rich pastures and cattle.

3,500 years ago God said it would happen. 2,800 years ago the prophecy was repeated. “He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit” (Isaiah 27:6). “The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose” (Isaiah 35:1). The UN has reported that the soil of Israel is the most productive in the world. For example, 202 tons of tomatoes per acre. 1.2 million roses per acre per season. 2640 gallons of annual milk yield per cow.

In the Negev Desert citrus yields reach 32 tons per acre. Agriculture exports to Europe reach one billion dollars annually. Productivity just as God promised thousands of years ago, all, in our lifetime, from total bareness to ultimate productivity. God knows the end from the beginning.

The Third Sign of the End of the Age, is a nation born in a day. One of the most impressive signs was the rebirth of Israel on May 14, 1948. “Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children” (Isaiah 66:8). That is exactly what happened. On May 13, 1948 Israel was not a nation on May 14 the UN declared Israel to be a sovereign state.

I well remember the headlines in the Toronto Star that day, “Israel declared a State.” The article read, “The first independent Jewish state in nineteen centuries was born in Tel Aviv as the British Mandate over Palestine came to an end at midnight on Friday. The new state was immediately subject to the test of fire.”

As the State of Israel was proclaimed, the battle for Jerusalem raged, with most of the city falling to the Jews. At the same time, President Truman announced that the United States would accord recognition of the new State.

A few hours later Palestine was invaded by Muslim armies from the south, east and north.

Just as Isaiah said 2,800 years ago, Israel would be born in ONE DAY and God’s Word was fulfilled.

The Fourth Sign of the End of the Age, was the promise that Israel would survive its planned destruction. “Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God” (Isaiah 66:9).

The Lord is talking about being still born, dying at birth. Would Israel die at the time of her rebirth? The clear implication is that there would be an attempt to kill the nation of Israel at the time of her rebirth.

Isaiah gives the answer in verse 10. “Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her” (Isaiah 66:10). That is exactly what happened! The Arab nations tried to kill Israel at her rebirth and God preserved her.

At that time, General George Marshall, spokesman for the U.S. State Department, had wired the Premier of the new state of Israel, David Ben Gurion, that if he declared an independent State, five Arab armies would immediately march against the new nation and within three days there would not be a Jew alive in Palestine.

But 2800 years earlier God said through Isaiah that He would not allow that to happen.

When Israel declared itself a sovereign, independent state, 5 Arab nations, along with units from other countries attacked Israel.

Those Arab armies had been well trained by the British and well equipped. They had planes and tanks and artillery. They swept into Israel from all directions. Their stated goal was to kill every living Jew.

Israel did not have an army. They were a rag tag group of Farmers and displaced immigrants. They were ill-equipped, untrained, and vastly outnumbered, many with only small arms. Yet they defeated those Arab armies and sent them retreating out of Israel. Just like in Bible times when God fought for them.

The Fifth Sign of the End of the Age, the order of return. Amazingly the prophet Isaiah foretold the order of return. “Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 43:5-6).

God is sovereignly controlling all of history.

First, “I will bring them from the East.” In the first half of the 20th century Jews began returning to Israel from the East. From Jordan – Syria – Iraq – Yemen and other Mideast countries.

Second, “and gather them from the west.” In the mid-20th century Jews began returning from Europe in the West, driven to their land by the persecution in Europe.

Third, “I will say to the north give up.” In the 80 and 90’s over a million Jews returned from Russia in the north. For years Russia refused to allow Jews to return to Israel. For years western nations urged the Russians “Let the Jews go.”

At long last the Russians relented, “Give up” and they did, over a million Jews returned at that time.

Fourth, “and to the south keep not back.” In the Mid- 90’s 20,000 Jews came home from Ethiopia in the south.

2,800 years later, it happened exactly as God said it would.

The Sixth Sign of the end of the age, a pure language. “Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD bless thee, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness” (Jeremiah 31:23).

The Lord said 2600 years ago when I get ready to bring Israel back to the land in the last days Israel will speak Hebrew.

Hebrew was a dead language for 2,000 years. Today in the street, in the schools, in the army, in the Knesset, in the newspapers and everywhere, the language of Israel is Hebrew. 2,600 years before it happened, God said it would! It couldn’t happen, but it did. A dead language has never been raised before in history, proof that the Bible is God’s Word.

The Seventh Sign of the end of the age, the restoration of the Shekel. When Israel was reborn the currency of the nation was the Pound and the U.S. dollar.

Four thousand years ago Abraham purchased the land to bury Sarah with shekels. “My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant” (Genesis 23:15, 16).

3,500 years ago when Moses instituted the Tabernacle, the currency was the Shekel. For 2,000 years there had been no shekel. In 1980 the Shekel became the official currency of Israel. This is another fulfilment of prophecy that indicates the end of the age is near.

The Eighth Sign of the end of the age, the cities of Israel.

And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded” (Ezekiel 36:10). After 2,000 years that has miraculously happened in our lifetime.

“And the cities shall be inhabited.” For 2,000 years they were not inhabited. The decayed, crumbling wastes of the old cities shall be rebuilt. “And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD” (Verse 11).

“…I will settle you after your old estates (names)…” The old cities you inhabited in the past will be inhabited again and their old names will be used again.

That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof” (Isaiah 44:26).

Today that has happened, the restoration of the old cities with their old names built on their old sites.

After 70 AD the Romans renamed the cities of Israel with new Roman names. Then the Muslims came along and named the cities and towns with Muslim names. The Turks renamed them again. Finally the cities were left unpopulated and they crumbled into ruins.

Wonder of wonders, today the old cities have been rebuilt on their original sites and have been given their old Bible names.

The Ninth Sign of the end of the age, the buying back of the land. God said to Abraham that the land was a gift to Israel. “And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God” (Genesis 17:8).

But the prophet also said, that in the last days of the last days, when Israel returns to the land, they would purchase it piece by piece. ”For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them. And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, it is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans” (Jeremiah 32:42-43).

When Jeremiah made this prophecy the land was desolate and unpopulated. This is exactly what has happened in the last seventy years. “Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the LORD” (Jeremiah 32:44).

Much of the land was bought from the Ottoman Empire. Often they had to pay individual Arab squatters for it a second time. Jews are still buying land and houses.

The Tenth Sign of the end of the age, the trees of Israel. Long ago the enemies of Israel cut down all of the trees greatly reducing the rainfall. This left a dry, hot, barren wasteland. But the Lord said just before Messiah comes, the trees of Israel will be restored.

I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together” (Isaiah 41:19). In the last 70 years Israel has planted approximately 300 million trees of all kinds. Israel now has 300 million acres of forests. The trees have had a profound effect on the climate.

The next verse gives us the reason God has done this. “That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.” God is speaking to Israel and to the peoples of the Earth. He is saying listen-up, the end of the age is at hand.

The Eleventh Sign of the end of the Age, Increasing rainfall in Israel. God’s Word teaches that when the Jews are in the land, God blesses the land and when the Jews are not in the land, God curses the land. For 2,000 years Israel was not in the land and the land was without rain, it was hot and dry and barren (cursed).

The Arabs cannot make the land produce because they are not the people of the land. During Bible times there were two seasons of rain In Israel, fall and winter. During the diaspora there was very little rain.

Hosea prophesies of the last day’s return of Israel to the land. “Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth” (Hosea 6:3). The rainfall began to increase in the twentieth century. There has been an escalating increase of rainfall which is directly related to the increase of the Jewish population. Today the average rainfall has increased to 35 inches per year in the northern parts. The Day of the Lord is at hand!

The Twelfth Sign of the End of the age, The return of the vultures and birds to Israel. For 2,000 years there have been virtually no birds in Israel and no vultures and no birds of prey. “The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, everyone with her mate” (Isaiah 34:14-15).

Today in Israel there is a growing population of vultures and birds of prey. Also, because of the 300,000 acres of forests, Israel has become a migratory route for large numbers of birds of all kinds.

The stage is set for the tribulation period. “And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh” (Revelation 19:17, 21).

The Thirteenth Sign of the end of the Age, Israel’s fertility. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt” (Amos 9:13).

What do we see going on in fields of Israel in these last days? We see ploughing, sowing and reaping all taking place at the same time. All through the ingenuity of Israeli’s irrigation sytem. I always thought this spoke of the millennial age, however it is taking place even now. A friend told me that when he was in Israel he actually saw this situation taking place. Ploughing, sowing and reaping in the same field.

Israeli’s have developed an irrigation system that enables them to grow several crops a year on the same ground. They mix fertilizer in water and let it drip right on the roots.

The Fourteenth Sign of the end of the Age, the restoration of the Temple and re-establishment of the Temple Worship. There are numerous prophecies that tell us that in the first half of the tribulation period the Temple will be rebuilt.

Today preparations for the 3rd Temple are now in place, indicating that the rapture of the Church is near at hand. At least 85 different vessels have been made. Harps for the Temple Orchestra have been made. These have been produced in Israel for the first time in 2,000 years. Hundreds of Priests have been trained. The priestly garments are prepared. The High Priest crown has been made along with the robe. The Menorah has been made of 92 pounds of gold. The Sanhedrin is now in place waiting confirmation. The drawings for the Temple have been prepared along with the blueprints. The needed red heifer is now available.

All is in readiness for Antichrist to appear on the scene, sign a false peace treaty and permit Israel to rebuild the Temple and restore the Levitical Worship.

The Fifteenth Sign of the end of the Age, Jerusalem a Cup of Trembling.

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it” (Zechariah 12:2-3).

Today that prophecy is being prepared for, although it still awaits a future fulfilment. The U.S. has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The leaders of one and a quarter billion Muslims have vowed to not let that happen. The Muslim world is boiling over this situation and preparing to stop it.

President Erdogan of Turkey announced plans for the 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to join forces and wage war against Israel from all sides. It would be an Islamic army of 5.2 million against the Israeli army of 160 thousand.

The most important issue in the world today is the fate of Jerusalem. Jerusalem is, at this moment, a cup of trembling.

The Sixteenth Sign of the end of the Age, Edom, the Palestinians are now seeking to take away Israel’s Land.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey” (Ezekiel 36:5).

That prophecy is being fulfilled today. The Palestinians are saying the Land of Palestine is ours, the Temple Mount is ours, Israel has no right to it. “Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession” (Ezekiel 36:2).

This is a situation that is unique to the present day, and it is a sign that we are nearing the end of the age.

The Seventeenth Sign, Jewish unbelief. Jewish unbelief was prophesied 2,800 years ago. “And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed” (Isaiah 6:9-10).

For over 2,000 years that prophecy has been fulfilled, and it is still being fulfilled today. That is why God has given these Messianic signs to Israel, seeking to lift the blindness of Israel concerning His plans for them.

Isaiah tells us how long this blindness will last. “Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate, And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land” (Isaiah 6:11-12). Israel’s blindness will last through the entire tribulation period and be lifted at the close of that time.

There are other Messianic signs of the end of the age but space does not permit us to deal with them.

Israel’s unbelief is another proof beyond any possibility of a doubt that the Bible is God’s Word and that God is the sovereign Lord of the universe.

William Blackstone writes of Israel. “Their wonderful preservation as a distinct people, through all the persecutions, troubles and wanderings of the past 1800 years, down to the present moment, is a standing miracle, attesting to the truth of God’s Word.

Frederick the Great said to his chaplain, “Doctor if your religion is a true one, it ought to be capable of a very brief and simple proof. Will you give me an evidence of its truth in one word.” The chaplain answered with one word, “Israel.”

Fulfilled prophecy proves that God knows the end from the beginning.

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure” (Isaiah 46:9-10).

“I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass” (Isaiah 48:3).

Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them” (Isaiah 42:9).

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18).

Faith in Christ is not a leap into the dark. It is not mysticism or superstition. It is faith in the proven facts God has given us. God reveals Himself and proves Himself and then says trust me, and obey me and I will save you and bless you.

We have given you 17 Messianic prophecies that have been fulfilled in our lifetime. Along many U.S. interstate highways bill boards are allowed. As you travel along you may see 20-30 billboards between exits. If you see17 signs that tell you there is McDonalds at the next exit you have no trouble believing it.

My friend the end of this present age is at hand. The unmistakeable signs are everywhere. The hour is late. If you are not saved, now is the time to call upon God to save you.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).  “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24).“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18).
