Nigerian ‘torture house’: Hundreds freed in Kaduna police raid
Nearly 500 men and boys have been rescued from a building in the northern city of Kaduna, where the detainees were allegedly sexually abused and tortured, Nigerian police said. Children as young as five were among those in chains at what was thought to be an Islamic school, officers said. Kaduna police chief Ali Janga told the BBC the building was raided after a tip-off about suspicious activity.

Researchers at Newcastle University filmed bacteria “undressing” and taking off their outer layer – or cell wall. Antibiotics can attack cell walls so scientists think this is a new form of drug resistance and could explain why some infections keep coming back.

ABC News in Australia reports that the new 500 megapixel cloud camera AI system, dubbed a ‘super camera’, was revealed at China’s International Industry Fair last week.

A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at 12:05 UTC on September 27, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 35 km (21 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.1 at a depth of 2 km (1.2 miles). The epicenter was located 96 km (59 miles) S of Raoul Island and 940 km (584 miles) NE of Ngunguru, Northland, New Zealand.
