New Study Confirms: People Aren’t Born Gay
The findings that were published on Thursday, were based on the genomes of almost 500,000 people, support the results of earlier, smaller studies while confirming the suspicions of a lot of scientists: although sexual preferences possess a genetic component, no single gene has a significant effect on sexual behaviors. “There is no ‘gay gene’,” said lead study author Andrea Ganna, a geneticist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

A modernized and expanded Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) entered into force on Sunday following ratification by both governments, widening the sectors of trade cooperation between the countries. Under the upgraded agreement, Israelis will enjoy tariff-free or reduced tariff access to the Canadian market to sell food items including grain products, fresh vegetables and fruit, wines and more.

Hamas chief pens letter to Iranian supreme leader, praising administrative support 
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh penned a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei praising the Iranian government for their “extensive” support of the Hamas-ruled Gaza coastal enclave, according to Khamenei’s official website. Haniyeh conveyed his “utter joy [for] Iran’s readiness to equip the resistance for whatever it needs to discharge its duty” to Khamenei adding that he thanks God for his presence.

Brexit: Government wants to purge Tory rebels, says ex-minister Gauke
The government is trying to “purge” Tory rebels who oppose it over Brexit, ex-Justice Secretary David Gauke says. A senior source from the whips’ office – which ensures MPs vote on party lines – said those who voted to block no deal would be expelled and deselected. The threat came as opposition MPs prepared to introduce legislation in an effort to avoid no deal.

Argentina imposes currency controls to support economy
Argentina has imposed currency controls in an attempt to stabilise markets as the country faces a deepening financial crisis. The government will restrict foreign currency purchases following a sharp drop in the value of the peso. Firms will have to seek central bank permission to sell pesos to buy foreign currency and to make transfers abroad.

Hezbollah fires rockets into Israel from Lebanon
The Lebanese Shia Muslim militant group Hezbollah has fired several anti-tank rockets into northern Israel in retaliation for a reported Israeli drone attack in Beirut last week. Israeli military sources confirmed rockets had been fired at an Israeli army base and military vehicles. The Israeli army responded by attacking targets in southern Lebanon.

China issued a stern warning to Hong Kong protesters as well as the West on Sunday, reiterating that it will not tolerate any attempt to undermine Chinese sovereignty over the city. “The end is coming for those attempting to disrupt Hong Kong and antagonize China,” stated a commentary piece published by the state’s Xinhua News Agency.

The comments from Ali Rabiei reinforced the deadline Iran had set for Friday for Europe to offer it a way to sell its crude oil on the global market.

UK considers deploying drones to the Gulf amid Iran tensions
The United Kingdom is considering deploying British drones to the Gulf amid tensions with Iran, Sky News reported early on Monday. UK’s Royal Air Force (RAF) has a number of Reaper drones based in nearby Kuwait and flying over Iraq and Syria. These could be re-tasked if the decision to deploy drones to the Gulf is taken, Sky News said.

A very deep earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.7 hit Fiji region at 15:54 UTC on September 1, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 604 km (375 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.7 at a depth of 608 km (377 miles). The epicenter was located 34 km (21 miles) NNE of Ndoi Island and 335 km (208 miles) SE of Levuka, Fiji. There are about 900 people living within 100 km (62 miles).
