It is a sect whose acts are without doubt an "abomination." The Torah obligates the death penalty for the act. It is among the most severe of transgressions.

A ritually pure oil has been carefully prepared by the nascent Sanhedrin so that the people of Israel will be ready to light the menorah should the Third Temple arrive by Hanukkah, which this year begins on December 24. “The oil is ready, so if the government decided to permit it, we are ready to go up to the Temple Mount and light the menorah,”

A 1,500-year-old stone tablet with the earliest known chiseled inscription of the Ten Commandments was sold at a US auction on Wednesday for $850,000. The two-foot (61 cm) square slab of white marble that weighs about 115 pounds (50 kg) was sold in Beverly Hills, California, by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions to a buyer who not to be immediately identified.

U.N. nuclear watchdog criticizes Iran for overstepping deal limit
Iran must stop repeatedly overstepping a limit on its stock of a sensitive material set by its landmark deal with major powers, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said on Thursday. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is policing the deal, said in a report last week that Iran had slightly exceeded the 130-tonne soft limit on its stock of heavy water for a second time since the deal was put in place in January.

Scientists have discovered a new way to edit DNA that could fix “broken genes” in the brain, cure previously incurable diseases and potentially even extend the human lifespan. The breakthrough – described as a “holy grail” of genetics – was used to partially restore the sight of rats blinded by a condition which also affects humans.

Over the weekend images surfaced...of a Hezbollah parade in Qusair, Syria, featuring U.S. armored personnel carriers affixed with antiaircraft guns. The images prompted a flurry of speculation about the vehicles’ origin and whether the group had pilfered the stocks of the U.S.-supplied Lebanese military. The armored personnel carrier, known as the M113...has been in service since the 1960s.  

Brazil: Protesters storm Congress seeking military rule
Dozens of protesters demanding a military coup have forced their way into Brazil's lower chamber of Congress in the capital, Brasilia. At least 40 demonstrators scuffled with guards and took over the podium as a session began on Wednesday. Denouncing government corruption, they called for a return to military rule - which Brazil saw from 1964 to 1985.  

Obama defends globalisation on Germany visit
US President Barack Obama has made a strong defence of globalisation as he arrived in Germany on his final visit to Europe before leaving office. In a joint article, Mr Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that with the global economy developing faster than ever, co-operation was vital.  

International mayors denounce UNESCO for ignoring Jewish ties to Temple Mount
An international delegation of mayors presented a resolution to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, decrying the recent UNESCO resolution that denies Jewish and Christian ties to the Temple Mount. The resolution states that UNESCO must cease to repeatedly exacerbate tensions.  

The largest oil deposit ever found in America was just discovered in Texas
The US Geological Survey said Tuesday that it found what could be the largest deposit of untapped oil ever discovered in America. Based on a West Texas Intermediate crude oil price of $45 per barrel, those deposits are worth about $900 billion.

President-elect Donald Trump is going after The New York Times again. In a series of tweets Wednesday, Trump attacked a Times story about firings and infighting that have left his transition team in a "state of disarray" -- reporting backed up by CNN and other major news organizations.

Officials say a light earthquake rattled southeastern Alaska Wednesday morning but there were no immediate reports of damage. The Alaska Earthquake Center say the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 and was centered 74 miles east of Yakutat at a depth of about 9 miles.
