Jerusalem residents protest muezzin noise  -  Residents of Pisgat Ze'ev, an eastern neighborhood of Jerusalem, emulated a muezzin call early the Thursday morning before last in front of the Beit Hakerem residence of Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat to protest ongoing disturbances from Muslim calls to prayer emanating from the Shuafat, Beit Hanina and A-ram neighborhoods.  

Heavy fighting as ISIS attacks Iraqi forces in Mosul after Iraqi special forces seize Mosul
Officers from the Iraqi special forces report that a suicide car bomber from ISIS has attacked them in Mosul; on Friday, Iraqi special forces reported pushing deeper into Mosul, despite heavy resistance from ISIS using civilians as cover.  

6.2 quake strikes off Japan
A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of the Japanese island of Honshu, according to USGS data. TEPCO said the quake did not affect the integrity of its crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, located relatively close to its epicenter. The quake struck around 9:43pm GMT on Friday, some 65 km east-northeast of the city of Sendai.  

Obama administration suspends Pacific trade deal vote effort
U.S. President Barack Obama's administration has suspended its efforts to win congressional approval for his Asian free-trade deal before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, saying on Friday that TPP's fate was up to Trump and Republican lawmakers. Administration officials also said Obama would try to explain the situation...the 11 other countries in the Trans-Pacific Partnership pact...  

Damascus, allies upbeat on Trump win, await his policies
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his allies hope to benefit from Donald Trump’s election win, believing it has saved them from the risks of an interventionist Clinton administration. Trump's win may have already shifted the course of the Russian-backed military campaign in Aleppo. A senior pro-Assad official told Reuters that plans to capture the rebel-held east by January were shaped around an assumption Clinton would win.  

Haiti faces a 'major food crisis', its interim president says
The international community is falling short in its commitment to Haiti's recovery, the country's interim President Jocelerme Privert says. Jocelerme Privert told the BBC that devastating losses from last month's Hurricane Matthew were equal to the country's entire national budget. Mr Privert said Haiti was facing a "major food crisis" and worsening levels of malnutrition.  

Bagram blast: Explosion hits US airbase in Afghanistan
A huge explosion at Bagram airbase in Afghanistan, the largest US military facility in the country, has killed at least four people. At least 14 others were wounded in the blast. The Taliban said one of their suicide bombers carried out the attack. The attack is being seen as a major security breach in one of the best protected places in Afghanistan.  

Egypt wins approval for $12bn loan from the IMF
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a three-year $12bn (€11bn) loan for Egypt to help the country out of its deep economic crisis. Egypt will receive $2.75bn immediately, with the rest subject to its economic performance and further reforms. IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said the bailout would "address longstanding challenges".

The petition for this ballot measure has been withdrawn after overwhelming positive and negative responses. Two days after Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, two Portlanders have submitted a petition for a 2018 ballot initiative to have Oregon secede from the United States.

President Barack Obama will meet key European allies and China's Xi Jinping during an upcoming three-country overseas trip, the White House said Friday, hoping to reassure partners after Donald Trump's shock election.  

Trump to work for 'just, lasting' Mideast peace
US president-elect Donald Trump pledged Friday to work for a "just, lasting peace" between Israel and the Palestinians, in his first public message on the issue since his upset victory. "I believe that my administration can play a significant role in helping the parties to achieve a just, lasting peace," Trump said in a message published by the Israel Hayom newspaper.  

Grubhub CEO backtracks after asking Trump supporters to quit
The co-founder of food delivery service Grubhub sent an email to all his employees suggesting that supporters of President-elect Donald Trump should resign, then issued a statement saying he welcomes all employees, regardless of their political beliefs.
