STOCKHOLM, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - Sweden may resort to the use of force against the alleged foreign submarine in the Stockholm archipelago, Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces Sverker Goranson said on Tuesday.
"If someone is in Swedish internal waters. . . I find it entirely appropriate to also use military force," Goranson is quoted as saying by the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper.
He noted, however, that if a watercraft is found, Swedish forces would try to move it up to the surface without causing damage.
Goranson again stated that it is "likely that there is or has been underwater activity in Stockholm's archipelago", but refrained from elaborating due to operational security reasons.
Swedish forces first launched a major operation off the coast of Stockholm on Friday after receiving information, reportedly from a civilian, about the presence of an unknown underwater object in the region, suspected to be a foreign submarine.
