Moody's downgrades Russia to Baa2
Moody's Investors Service cut Russia's sovereign debt rating to 'Baa2' from 'Baa1', becoming the second ratings agency to cut the country's ratings this year, after S&P initiated a downgrade in April. ..."The military confrontation in Ukraine and escalating sanctions against Russia are likely to have an increasingly negative macroeconomic impact on Russia's investment climate," the ratings agency said on Friday.  

Iraq crisis: Wave of attacks in Baghdad leave 40 dead
More than 40 people have been killed and dozens wounded in a series of attacks in mainly Shia areas of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, officials say. In the deadliest incident, two car bombs exploded simultaneously in the western district of Dawlai, killing 14. No-one claimed responsibility for the attacks, but they bore the hallmarks of previous operations by Islamic State.  

Catholic Synod: Cardinal 'demoted' by Pope Francis
A leading American cardinal has told BuzzFeed that he is to be demoted from his position running the Catholic Church justice system. Cardinal Raymond Burke is a staunch critic of Pope Francis' moves to soften the Church's stance on homosexuality. He said that he was to be moved to the far less senior post of patron of the sovereign military order of Malta.
