"Beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly; and to brotherly kindness charity" - 2 Peter 1:5-7

The Christian life should be one continual growth and development. From the seed of faith their should spring all of the fruit which is so precious in the eyes of the Lord and which results in a well-rounded, spiritual experience. Saving faith is far more than an intellectual acceptance of certain revealed truths. It is to trust in Christ alone for salvation, and this will be manifested by conformity to Him. We grow as we feed upon the precious promises He has given in His Word. Every one of these fulfilled in our own experience will encourage us to confide in the Word more implicitly. To ignore or to neglect the Word means a fruitless life and incapacity for service. - H. A. Ironside

I asked the Lord, that I might grow In faith, and love, and every grace;

Might more of His salvation know, And seek more ernestly His face.

I hoped that in some favored hour, At once He'd answer my request;

And by His love's constraining power, Subdue my sins and give me rest.

Instead of this, He made me feel The hidden evils of my heart;

And let the angry powers of hell Assault my soul in every part.

'Lord why is this?' I trembling, cried, 'Wilt thou pursue Thy worm till death?'

'Tis in this way,' the Lord replied, 'I answer prayer for grace and faith.'

'These inward trials I employ, From self and pride to set thee free;

And break thy schemes of earthly joy, That thou may'st seek thy all in me.' -- John Newton
