Queens Residents Wake Up To Find Section Of Town Vandalized
Residents of the Bellerose section of Queens woke up Friday to find messages of hate scrawled around their neighborhood. Swastikas marked many cars, a fence, and a garage, CBS 2′s Tamara Leitner reported. Carolyn Lyew said her blue Toyota was covered in swastikas near the corner of 87th Avenue and 256th Street.  

House GOP Blinks: Will Lift Debt AND Reopen Government
House Republicans have sent the White House a revised proposal to lift the debt ceiling for six weeks, as well as reopen government through December 15th... Aside from reopening the government and agreeing to raise America's debt over the current $16.7 trillion limit, the Republicans made several other concession to President Obama and the Democrats. One such example is that Obamacare would receive funding.  

Pakistan Taliban commander 'seized in US operation'
US forces have captured a senior Pakistan Taliban commander, Latif Mehsud, the state department has said. The US gave no details of the operation, but Afghan officials said he was seized in eastern Afghanistan and taken to the Bagram base near Kabul. He was reportedly returning from talks over a mooted prisoner-swap deal, and the capture is said to have angered Afghan President Hamid Karzai.  

Syria jihadists accused of 'execution' war crimes
JIHADIST fighters have been accused of war crimes over the killing of 190 civilians from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's Alawite minority, in the largest atrocity ever attributed to rebels.

The small Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was still getting used to its unaccustomed role at the center of world affairs, overseeing the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons, when it won the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.  

Sen. Rand Paul: ‘Worldwide War on Christianity’ Ignored by Obama, Media
The “war on Christianity” is being ignored by the mainstream media and the Obama administration, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) charged Friday, addressing the global attacks on Christians around the world. “From Boston to Zanzibar, there’s a worldwide war on Christianity,” Paul said to applause Friday when speaking at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C.  

Cyclone Phailin: Mass evacuations in eastern India
More than 400,000 people in India have been evacuated as a massive cyclone sweeps through the Bay of Bengal towards the east coast. Cyclone Phailin, categorised as "very severe" by weather forecasters, is expected to hit Orissa and Andhra Pradesh states on Saturday evening. The Meteorological Department has predicted the storm will bring winds up to 220 km/h (136mph).  

Polls show Americans really, really unhappy with Congress
Congress had to know voters wouldn’t be happy with a government shutdown and a debt-ceiling crisis. But two recent polls show many Americans would fire all of Congress, or lobby for a new political party.  

N. Korea warns of 'all-out war'
North Korea on Saturday issued a fresh warning of an "all-out war", urging the United States to stop military drills and what it described as "nuclear blackmail". In a thinly veiled threat to strike the United States, the North's National Defence Commission (NDC), chaired by leader Kim Jong-Un, said the US government must withdraw its policy of hostility against the North if it wants peace on both the Korean peninsula and the "US mainland".  

Jim Grant Warns America's Default Is Inevitable
Authored by James Grant (of Grant's Interest Rate Observer), originally posted at The Washington Post, “There is precedent for a government shutdown,” Lloyd Blankfein, the chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs, remarked last week. “There’s no precedent for default.” How wrong he is. The U.S. government defaulted after the Revolutionary War, and it defaulted at intervals thereafter. Moreover, on the authority of the chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, the government means to keep right on shirking, dodging or trimming, if not legally defaulting.
