US, UK Security Agencies Reportedly Trying To Crack Tor Network
Documents released Friday by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden reveal that the US security agency is attempting to target the privacy-protecting Tor web browsing software, various media outlets have reported. Tor, which is short for The Onion Router, is currently used by approximately 500,000 people, said Slate.com writer Ryan Gallagher. The majority of those individuals are human rights advocates or journalists attempting to mask their activity from the prying eyes of their governments – although Tor can also be used by criminal agencies or terrorist cells, which makes it of interest to federal security agencies such as the NSA.

Priests Risk Arrest for Offering Sacraments to Catholic Troops During Shutdown
Some Catholic priests under contract or GS (general schedule) to the military are not allowed to offer the Catholic sacraments–including saying Mass, consecrating marriages, or performing baptisms–on military property during the government shutdown, and if they do, even on a volunteer basis, they risk being arrested, according to the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA.

SPACECRAFT GOES INTO LUNAR ORBIT
Mission controllers flying NASA's Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) spacecraft are among the select few at the space agency who have exemptions allowing them to work during the government shutdown. On the morning of Oct. 6th, they fired LADEE's main engine in a braking maneuver. This slowed the spacecraft enough for it to be captured by the Moon's gravity. The insertion burn went flawlessly and LADEE is now in lunar orbit. Two more main engine burns, on Oct. 9th and 12th, will adjust LADEE's trajectory, settling it into its commissioning orbit. LADEE is on a mission to study the exotic and diaphanous lunar atmosphere, which is mightily affected by space weather.

Egypt attacks targets security forces
Egyptian security forces have been targeted in several attacks around the country, reports say. Gunmen killed five Egyptian soldiers who were in a patrol vehicle outside of the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya, say security officials. A large car bomb struck headquarters of the security forces in southern Sinai, killing five, while a rocket attack hit a satellite station in a Cairo suburb.
