"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him" - Col. 3:16,17

The Word and the Spirit. The same effects are here seen to result from a heart filled with the Word of God, as when one is said to be filled with the Spirit (Eph.5:18-20). It is a well known axiom that "things equal to the same thing are equal to one another." Clearly, then, to be controlled by the Word of Christ and to be filled with the Spirit are one and the same. Or, to put it another way, the Spirit-filled believer is the Word-controlled believer. We are filled with the Spirit only as we walk in obedience to the revealed will of God, set forth in the Holy Scriptures. - H.A. Ironside
