“Turkish Police Detain 800 Protesters in Izmir and Ankara”
by debkafile
June 3rd, 2013

Turkish protesters clashed with riot police early Monday, the fourth day of the popular protest sweeping the country, after they hurled fire bombs and set fire to the offices of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Islamic AK party in Izmir. In Istanbul, roads around Erdogan’s office were sealed off by police firing teargas to push back protesters following behind a mechanical digger, after they ripped up bus shelters, paving stones and street signs on one of the city's main avenues. In Ankara, police raided a shopping complex where they believed demonstrators were sheltering. Altogether 800 demonstrators were arrested.
