UFOs ‘Roam our skies’ Says Former US Air Force Intelligence Officer
A former U.S. Air Force major with 5,000 flying hours described in detail his encounter with an UFO, telling former members of Congress at a hearing on extraterrestrial sightings that he has been interested in UFOs ever since. “These space craft occasionally roam our skies and my theory is they have been coming here for thousands of years,” Major George Filer III said May 3, the last day of the week long Citizen Hearing on Disclosure at the National Press Club.

US Army Chief Suggests Military Intervention in Syria Before End of Summer
The U.S. Army’s top officer has said that the window of opportunity for a military assault on Syria is within the next three to four months and that budget cuts would render intervention after the end of summer unlikely. “Readiness is OK right now, but it’s degrading significantly because our training is reducing. So, the next three, four months, we probably have the capability to do it,” he said, adding, “Next year, it becomes a little bit more risky.”

Cherie Blair get honorary doctorate in Israel
Cherie Blair, the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has been awarded an honorary doctorate at Israel's Ben-Gurion University. Blair was one of six individuals to receive the honor in ceremonies Tuesday at the Marcus Family Campus at the Ben-Gurion University in the Negev, a statement by the university said. "This is a big moment for a girl from Liverpool. As the first in my family to go to university, I never thought I would have a collection of honorary doctorates," she said. Blair, who is chancellor of the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh, said women there are struggling against rising Islamism to protect their right to education.  

Jerusalem celebrates reunification
Jerusalem took on a festive mood Wednesday to mark the 46th anniversary of the reunification of the city after East Jerusalem was captured in the 1967 war. Celebrations kicked off Tuesday night at the Mercaz Harav yeshiva in Jerusalem, attended by rabbis and government ministers and parliamentarians. "Jerusalem is the spirit of the nation and spirit cannot be divided," Israel Radio quoted Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon saying at the ceremony.

78,000 Apply for Private Mars Colony Project In 2 Weeks
About 78,000 people have applied to become Red Planet colonists with the nonprofit organization Mars One since its application process opened on April 22, officials announced today (May 7). Mars One aims to land four people on the Red Planet in 2023 as the vanguard of a permanent colony, with more astronauts arriving every two years thereafter.

US, allies to stage large naval exercise in Gulf
The United States and its allies are preparing for naval exercises in the Gulf energy export hub that will include mine sweeping and escorting commercial ships in a region where Iran is seen as a threat both to trade and security. Forty-one countries are taking part in the two-week International Mine Countermeasures Exercise (IMCMEX-13) to practice mine sweeping and protecting ports and energy installations in the Gulf.
