A Syrian military commander (unnamed) told the pro-government Watan newspaper Wednesday than any further advance by the rebels on Damascus means “certain death for them and their leaders.” DEBKAfile: “Certain death” is taken as a threat by the Assad regime to use chemical weapons to save Damascus, after the Syrian Army’s 4^th Republican and 3^rd Divisions are finding it difficult to repulse the advance on the capital and Bashar Assad’s seat of power by rebel units who were armed in the last few days with sophisticated anti-tank weapons.
