Hezbollah: Israel would be hit with 1000s of rockets in future war
Lebanon's Hezbollah group would fire thousands of rockets into Israel in any future war and target cities in the country's heartland, the group's leader said Sunday. Sheik Hassan Nasrallah's warning came days after an eight-day Israeli offensive against Gaza ended with a truce. -"The battle with us is going to be all over occupied Palestine," the black-turbaned Nasrallah said. "From the border with Lebanon to the frontier with Jordan to the Red Sea."

SARS-like virus plagues Middle East
A new virus from the same family as SARS which sparked a global alert in September has now killed two people in Saudi Arabia, and total cases there and in Qatar have reached six, the World Health Organization said.-“Until more information is available, it is prudent to consider that the virus is likely more widely distributed than just the two countries which have identified cases”

Report: Magic Wand test in coming days
The IDF is gearing for a critical test of the Magic Wand system, which has been designed to intercepted short-to-medium range missiles in the backdrop of the Iron Dome's success during Operation Pillar of Defense, The Boston Globe reported Saturday. Israel has yet to confirm or deny the report. According to the newspaper, the test is set to take place in the Negev in the coming days.

Saudi husbands 'alerted by text' if their wives leave the country
As of last week, Saudi women's male guardians began receiving text messages on their phones informing them when women under their custody leave the country, even if they are travelling together. Saudi women's rights activist Manal al-Sherif, who last year urged women to defy a driving ban, said a man had contacted her to say he had received a text from the immigration authorities while at the airport with his wife.

Iran accuses U.S. Navy of 'illegal and provocative acts'
Iran has accused the United States of "illegal and provocative acts," including repeated violations of Iranian airspace, in a letter submitted Friday to the United Nations. The message from Iran’s U.N. ambassador, Mohammad Khazaee, first obtained by the Associated Press, argues that the U.S. Navy has regularly conducted flights over Iranian territory in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman.

Ugandan president repents of personal, national sins
...President Yoweri Museveni celebrated Uganda’s 50th anniversary of independence from Britain at the National Jubilee Prayers event by publicly repenting of his personal sin and the sins of the nation. “I stand here today to close the evil past...I stand here on my own behalf and on behalf of my predecessors to repent. We ask for your forgiveness,” Museveni prayed.

Embattled Morsi calls out his backers
The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt has called for a mass demonstration in Cairo this week to show support for the embattled President, Mohamed Morsi, who is facing widespread protests over his controversial decree granting him extensive new powers. In a statement published on its website, the Brotherhood also called for demonstrations in public squares across the country after early evening prayers today.

UK urges US 'decisive' lead on Mid-East
UK Foreign Secretary William Hague has called for a "decisive lead" from the United States in seeking a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "Some good" could come out of the Gaza crisis, he argued, if it was possible to open access in and out of Gaza and halt weapons smuggling into the area. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is set to ask the UN to back a bid for non-member observer state.

China lands J-15 jet on Liaoning aircraft carrier
China has successfully landed a jet fighter on its new aircraft carrier for the first time, officials say. A Chinese-made J-15 fighter landed on the 300m (990ft) former Soviet carrier during recent exercises, China's defence ministry said on Sunday. The Liaoning, China's first aircraft carrier, entered into service in September.

'Missile deployment in Turkey would spark tensions'
Iran said the deployment of Patriot defense missiles near Turkey's border with Syria would worsen tensions, as fears grow of the Syrian civil war spilling across the region. Turkey asked NATO for the Patriot system, designed to intercept aircraft or missiles, last week after talks about how to shore up security on its 900-km (560-mile) border.

'Satellites show Iran moving quickly to rearm Hamas'
Israeli intelligence satellites have spied the loading of rockets and other materiel believed to be destined for the Gaza Strip, The Sunday Times reported citing Israeli officials. According to the report, Iran began preparing the weapons shipment around the same time Israel and Hamas negotiated cease-fire understandings late last week.
