Go Ye Into All The World

We as the Disciples of Christ are called to bring the message of life to the whole world. Jonah was called by God to preach the gospel to Nineveh. He refused and went in the opposite direction. He ended up at the bottom of the sea in the belly of the great fish. The Lord got his attention and he repented and went to Nineveh and preached the gospel. Jonah hated the Ninevites who were the cruel enemies of his people Israel.

Jonah was selfish, he wanted the favour and blessing of God for himself and his people, he didn’t care about others.

Selfish people quit. Jonah 4:5, “So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city.....” Jonah was a dropout, if God doesn’t do it my way I won’t go along with His program.  Many of God’s people have dropped out of God’s program for evangelizing the world. They don’t witness, they don’t really pray and they don’t weep. Are we like that?

Selfish people build structures for self preservation.  “And there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow...”  Jonah is consumed with his own comfort and his own preservation. Some of the Lord’s disciples are like that. They not only do not get involved but they use the limited resources on themselves and they distract those who would bring in the harvest. Their interests and wishes and desires and opinions overshadow the labourers in the harvest fields. If you are not going into the fields to bring in the harvest, then get out of the way.

Selfish people become spectators.  “Till he might see what would become of the city.” Spectators will receive no reward, they will hear no well done. We are to be doers not spectators.

O go ye into all the world is His divine command.

I hear His voice so tender I see His loving hand,

Outstretched in power and blessing, the fallen ones to raise.

Then may we do His bidding, through all our earthly days,

And when the sheaves are gathered, before His throne that day,

May there be souls most precious whom we have shown the way.
