A recent study indicated that the American presence in Iraq is costing the U.S. $12 billion a month. After the elections and as the current recession takes its toll, it seems inevitable that America will withdraw from the Mid-East. That will leave Israel without the support she has learned to depend on, instead of trusting God as she should.
In the meantime the headlines tell us that Syria is intensely arming itself (WMD Mar.9-08) with rockets and missiles that place all of Israel within Firing Range. But the world doesn't care.
Another headline (Times On Line Mar.9-08) reveals that Iran is training Hamas fighters and has been for 2 years. Hamas is actually fighting a proxy war for Iran, but the world does't care.
Another headline (Arutz Sheva Mar. 10/08) tells us that Israel collapsed to U.S. pressure to pull its troops out of Gaza. In the last several years 7600 rockets have been fired from the Gaza into Southern Israel. It appears that George Bush and Condoleeza Rice do not care about Israel, they only care about appeasing Arabs.
Another Headline (Haaretz Mar.9/08) states that Israeli Intelligence painted a bleak picture for Israel in 2008. They anticipate a war with Syria and Hezzbollah. They also fear a takeover of the West Bank by Hamas. They also stated, that, unless there was intervention, Iran might cross the nuclear threshold in 2009. But no one seems to care about Israel's problems.
In the meantime, Israeli P.M. Ehud Olmert is making every conceivable, irrational concession to the Palestinians, to Hamas and contemplating giving Syria the Golan Heights. He seems poised to give the Temple Mount and East Jerusalem (biblical Jerusalem) to the Palestinians. It seems obvious that even Israel's P.M. does not care about Israel, he just wants to appease the Palestinians and to placate the Nations of the world who are clamoring for a Palestinian State on Israel's land. When the Palestinians and Hamas move into Jerusalem and the West Bank Israel will be indefenseable, but who cares about Israel?
There is one who does care about Israel, the God of Israel. In Numbers 33:53 The God of Israel says, "And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: For I have given you the land to possess it."
Israel will ultimately survive and be mightily blessed of God in their own land. Today's unbelieving Jews will nevertheless pay an awful price before the blessing comes upon Israel. We read about that price in Zech. 13:8-9 "And it shall come to pass, that in all the land saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein." "And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God."
Today Israel is exercising the very same unbelief, the same failure to trust God that another generation exercised over 3000 years ago at Kadesh Barnea, that generation paid the same high price.
