“The Mystery of Iniquity”
by Art Sadlier
March 14th, 2010

At the present moment we are seeing our society plunging ever deeper into an abyss of immorality and wickedness. Several news items this week are very alarming.

First report, “The World Association of Girl Scouts hosted a no-adults-welcome panel at the United Nations this week where Planned Parenthood was allowed to distribute a brochure entitled, ‘Healthy,  Happy and Hot’. The brochure promotes sexual  perversion,  the material is so vile I would not publish it on this website. In days gone by these people would have been sent to jail for corrupting the morals of minors.

Another news release in February stated, “A new report by the International Planned Parenthood Federation is advocating that children as young as 10 be given extensive sex education, including an awareness of sex’s pleasures.”

A UN report released last August advocated teaching masturbation to children as young as age five. I believe the most despicable form of immorality is the corruption of the morals of young children.

Paul talks about the ‘mystery of iniquity’ in 2 Thessalonians 2:7. Why do men and women so often tend to descend into evil?  Evil seems to be profitable and pleasurable, why is it that men are so easily deceived  and cannot see the terrible consequences of sin. I believe that is the mystery of iniquity. We know that men are moved to sin by a fallen nature within, which is in rebellion against God.  That does not fully explain why men choose evil against all common sense and reason, it is a mystery, the mystery of iniquity.  Men could express their rebellion against God without harming themselves in such an obvious, temporal way.  Paul talks about this mystery in our text, “For the Mystery of iniquity doth already work.”  We live in a wicked world, but Paul tells us that someday this world will experience the removal of all restraints on evil.

Paul teaches us in the same verse, that when the Church is removed from the world, the restraining ministry of the Holy Spirit, carried on through the body of Christ, will be terminated. For seven years evil will be totally unrestrained.

By the time the tribulation period is over, all of creation, men and angels will come to recognize the futility of sin. The mystery will be removed from iniquity, though the desire to rebel will continue, all will know that sin is folly.

We know that Satan will deceive men one more time at the end of the millennial period, then sin will be found only in hell, men will understand that sin is an unprofitable option.

We are left today to marvel at the futility, the folly, the absurdity of man’s sin and why men are so foolish and so blinded by sin, and why they cannot recognize the devastating consequences of sin?  It is the mystery of iniquity?
