“The Revived Roman Empire”
by Art Sadlier
February 15th, 2009

Daniel tells us about a world-wide kingdom that will dominate the entire world in the last days. He tells us that this kingdom will be a revival of the old Roman empire. The leaders of the EU boast that they are the return of the old Roman Empire. Daniel tells us in Dan. 2:42-43, that this kingdom will be weak and divided as it comes to power but that a transition will take place, a strongman will take control and turn this kingdom into a world-wide empire that will dominate the world and its people, Rev. 13:7-8. The history of the EU for the last 60 years has been one of weakness, division and indecision, they are now crying out for a strongman to take control and make an impact on the whole world.  Paul tells us that this man of sin, as he is called, will not appear on the scene until after the church is raptured, therefore it is vain for us to try to identify him.

However we watch with great fascination as we see the stage being set in Europe for this man to appear on the scene. We know that the closer he appears to be, the closer we are to the sound of the trumpet and our being called into our wonderful Lord's presence.

Plans are being made for this new office of permannt president to begin next year.  News reports tell us that the struggle has already begun to pick this leader. President Nicolas Sarkozy of France is even now promoting Tony Blair as a candidate. He has stated that Tony Blair is the only one who can stand up to the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, the EU is demanding that it play a dominant role in the mid-east peace process,  a role that Daniel has laid out for antichrist to fulfil (Dan.9:27).  Another interesting factor is the possible demise of the US dollar and the rise of the Euro to replace it. A collapse of the US dollar would leave the US as a third world country almost overnight, and that would leave the EU as the leader of the financial world. The possibility that the US will not come out of this financial meltdown is very, very real, any thinking person realizes that the US debt will ultimately cause the economy to collapse.

The stage is being set, we have watched for 60 years for these things to happen, now they are unfolding, we can't know the day or the hour but we can know that it is near, even at the door.
