A gunman shot dead Jordanian writer Nahed Hattar on Sunday outside the court where he was to stand trial on charges of contempt of religion after sharing on social media a caricature seen as insulting Islam, state news agency Petra said. It said the gunman was arrested at the scene.  

Pentagon Demands No-Fly Zone For Russia Over Syria
Pentagon officials have called for a ‘no-fly’ zone in Syria – except that it would only apply to Russian and Syrian aircraft. Speaking to the Senate Armed Services Committee following the recent humanitarian atrocities by airstrikes that occurred in Syria over the past week, Defense Secretary Ash Carter and General Joseph Dunford have proposed that a no-fly zone be enforced, with the exception of American aircraft.

Stabbing attack foiled near Hebron, terrorist shot
A Palestinian terrorist attempted to carry out a stabbing attack at a hitchhiking post at the Elias Junction, near Hebron, Friday. Security forces stationed at the checkpoint subdued the terrorist and prevented any harm to the Israeli civilians in the area. The terrorist was shot in the leg. No Israelis were injured in the incident.  

Episcopal Church Decline Continues With Loss of Over 37,000 Members in 2015
The Episcopal Church continued its long trend of decline in 2015, with recently released statistics showing the Mainline denomination losing more than 37,000 members last year. In statistics released earlier this week by the Episcopal Church Office of Research, in 2015 the Church had approximately 1.77 million members in its domestic dioceses, down from about 1.81 million members in 2014.

President Barack Obama used a pseudonym in email communications with Hillary Clinton and others, according to FBI records made public Friday. The disclosure came as the FBI released its second batch of documents from its investigation into Clinton’s private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

California Gov. Jerry Brown on Saturday signed legislation that requires certain entertainment sites, such as IMDb, to remove – or not post in the first place – an actor’s age or birthday upon request.

- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently visiting the United States, will separately meet U.S. presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Sunday, campaign sources and Israeli officials said.

6.8 magnitude earthquake rocks Fiji
An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale shook the Fiji archipelago on Sunday. The local authorities did not report any loss of life or significant damage to property, EFE news reported. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre of the tremor, at a depth of 594 km, was located 100 km north of Ndoi island.

Delegation of Jordanian generals visit Israel
A delegation of 12 Jordanian soldiers—all loyal to King Abdullah—recently concluded a secret, three-day visit to Israel, during which it toured the country and met with high ranking Israeli officials and senior IDF officers. The delgation—which requested that the visit be kept low profile—attended an international conference...on military forces in the region preserving the environment and natural resources.  

Mexico: Thousands protest against same-sex marriage proposal
Thousands of people in Mexico City have protested against a government proposal to legalise same-sex marriage, which they say would undermine traditional families. Organisers said they were not opposed to gay or lesbian rights, but wanted to defend family values and the institution of marriage. The demonstrators called for a meeting with President Enrique Pena Nieto.  

Swiss vote in referendum on new surveillance law
Swiss voters have voted in a referendum whether to back new surveillance powers for the country's intelligence agencies. The new law would allow the authorities to tap phones, snoop on email and deploy hidden cameras and bugs. It would help Switzerland catch up with other countries, supporters say.  

China's colossal radio telescope begins testing
The world's largest radio telescope, which has been built in China, is beginning an intensive testing phase. Chinese scientists report that the giant dish, which measures 500m (1,640ft) across, is complete and has received its first signals from space. It will now take three years to calibrate the instrument so it can become fully operational.  

Netanyahu to ask Clinton, Trump to oppose one-sided resolutions against Israel
If the US presidential candidates don’t come to Jerusalem during the heat of the campaign, Jerusalem will come to them. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet separately in New York on Sunday with both Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
