astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson angered Christians on Christmas Day with a series of tweets poking fun of Christmas. The one that sparked the most anger was when he wrote, "On this day long ago, a child who was born who, by age 30, would transform the world. Happy Birthday Isaac Newton b. Dec 25, 1642."

Police outside cop funeral turn backs on NY mayor
Hundreds of officers outside the church where a funeral was held for a policeman killed along with his partner in an ambush shooting turned their backs on the mayor as he spoke during Saturday's service.  

The ISIS caliphate is already crumbling
It turns out that the Islamic State, which seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria this year, is not so good at the whole running a state thing. According to The Washington Post, areas under ISIS' control are rapidly falling apart due to severe mismanagement:  

Russia tests 10-warhead ballistic missile
Russian Defense Ministry announced the successful test of the RS-24 "Yars" ballistic missile on Friday. "Test warheads hit their targets in the Kura testing range on the Kamchatka peninsula with pinpoint accuracy," said Col. Igor Yegorov a spokesman for the ministry. The missile was launched at 11:02 Moscow time on Friday, Yegorov said.  

‘Noah's Ark’: Russia to build world first DNA databank of all living things
...Moscow State University has secured Russia’s largest-ever scientific grant to collect the DNA of every living and extinct creature for the world’s first database of its kind. “I call the project ‘Noah’s Ark.’ It will involve the creation of a depository – a databank for the storing of every living thing on Earth, including not only living, but disappearing and extinct organisms.  

Assad orders Christmas Day strike on Islamic State territory
Forces loyal to embattled Syrian president Bashar Assad have engaged in a bombardment of territory under the control of Islamic State militants over the last 48 hours, killing roughly 40 people, according to local reports. Syrian Army helicopters used barrel bombs - barrels packed with explosives and metal shards, with no precision mechanism— to strike the areas of al-Bab and Qabaseen on Christmas Day and overnight.  

Islamic State fighters are moving ever closer towards Israel
Islamic State has suffered severe losses as a result of coalition air strikes in the last months. ...Yet despite these setbacks,...while American bombers and Kurdish fighters are preventing its advance further east, there are many indications the jihadists are continuing to advance...in a south and westerly direction...towards Damascus and Lebanon, and incidentally, in the direction of Israel.  

Report: Nasrallah is pushing for Hamas reconciliation with Syria and Iran
Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah is reportedly mediating between Hamas on the one hand and Iran and Syria on the other in order to patch up the alliance that has been damaged due to the war in Syria. The reconciliation efforts were reported on Saturday in the Lebanese newspaper As-Safir.  

Ukraine crisis: Fresh prisoner swaps expected
More prisoner exchanges are expected between Ukraine and pro-Russian rebels in the east - a day after the two sides swapped hundreds of captives. Ukrainian officials say they are hoping that four soldiers will be freed. The number of militants due to be released has not been confirmed.

Nearly 120,000 Malaysians have been forced out of their homes in the worst flooding in decades, a disaster that has forced Prime Minister Najib Razak to cut short a holiday in the United States.  

Third priest is killed in southern Mexico during a series of abductions and attacks against Roman Catholic clerics
A priest has been found dead of a gunshot wound to the head in Mexico's southern Guerrero state, his diocese said Friday. Rev. Gregorio Lopez Gorostieta's death marks the latest in a series of abductions, attacks and highway robberies against Roman Catholic clerics in the state which is dominated by drug cartels.  

North Korea blames the U.S. for Internet outages
North Korea accused the United States on Saturday of being responsible for Internet outages it experienced in recent days amid a confrontation between them over the hacking of the film studio Sony Pictures.  

US-led coalition hits IS jihadists with 31 air strikes
The US-led coalition pounded the Islamic State jihadist group with 31 air strikes Friday, including more than a dozen in the flashpoint Syrian town of Kobane, the Pentagon said.
