Turkey facilitated an attack carried out by Islamist fighters against the Armenian town of Kasab inside Syria, eyewitnesses have told the Telegraph. In an operation that was months in the planning, Turkish authorities gave rebel groups the mandate they needed to attack, allowing them access through a heavily militarised Turkish border post, whose location was strategically vital to the success of the assault.  

Greece Earthquake Today 2014 Strikes South of Athens
Officials tell news that a 5.0 magnitude Greece earthquake today started just after 10:41 pm local time. The quake was shallow. USGS indicates to news that the quake was only ten miles below sea level. As a result the quake could be felt north on land.

Jordanian envoy kidnapped in Libya attack
The Jordanian ambassador to Libya has been kidnapped in the capital Tripoli, in an attack that left his driver wounded, officials say. Libya's foreign ministry confirmed Fawaz al-Itan's kidnapping to the BBC, adding that his driver was in hospital. The Jordanian prime minister said that the envoy's release was being negotiated.

Russia spends more on arms compared to its GDP than the US and European countries, according to fresh figures released Monday (14 April) by Sipri, a military spending research group. The US remains the world's top military spender in gross terms (€460bn), but its spending decreased by over 7 percent compared to the previous year, mainly because of the withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan.
