DOJ silent on spy chief investigation
Months after requesting an investigation into Director of National Intelligence James Clapper for lying to Congress, lawmakers have yet to get an update from the Justice Department. Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), the original author of the Patriot Act, and six other House Republicans called for a criminal probe into Clapper last year for falsely testifying that the government was not collecting bulk information on millions of Americans.

The number of refugees who have fled Syria and registered in Lebanon has surpassed the "devastating milestone" of one million, the UN says. Lebanon now has "the highest per capita concentration of refugees worldwide", said the head of the UN refugee agency.  

Nato's Eastern Europe build-up plans alarm Russia
Moscow is pressing Nato to explain its plans to beef up military presence in Eastern Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said. "We not only expect answers, but answers... based fully on respect for the rules we agreed on," he said. Nato earlier said it would reinforce the alliance's defences in Eastern Europe following Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

US Army Fort Hood murder-suicide: Soldier kills three
A soldier shot dead three colleagues and injured 16 others at the US Army's Fort Hood base in Texas before killing himself, the military says. US media named the suspect as Ivan Lopez, 34, although his identity has not been officially confirmed. The gunman had served in Iraq and had mental health problems, officials said.  

Palestinians warn: We will join the Hague

A focus on border negotiations would show if Israel and the US are serious about reaching an agreement, he said, adding that the PA planned to join 63 international organizations, including the International Criminal Court, if the talks did not produce a border deal.
