
Earthquake  felt in South Jersey
The USGS website reports the epicenter of  the quake was about 3.2 miles below the Earth's surface. While most people are  either fast asleep with full stomachs from the holiday, or out shopping at the  mall for Black Friday deals, there are many South Jersey residents who were  still awake at that hour and are reporting via social media that they felt --  and heard -- a rumble.
Egypt protesters  torch Muslim Brotherhood offices
Protesters in Egypt have set  fire to Muslim Brotherhood offices in several cities, according to state TV.  They were demonstrating against President Mohammed Mursi's decision to grant  himself sweeping new powers. His decree states, among other things, that the  president's decisions cannot be revoked by any authority - including the  judiciary.
Man  dies as torrential rain and wind cause UK flood havoc
Torrential  rain and high winds across much of the UK have resulted in widespread flooding,  with more stormy weather predicted for the weekend. A man died in floods in Chew  Stoke near Bath on Thursday as downpours led to evacuations and road closures.  The Environment Agency has issued 83 flood warnings for England and Wales.
US school tag tracker  project prompts court row
A court challenge has delayed plans to  expel a Texan student for refusing to wear a radio tag that tracked her  movements. Religious reasons led Andrea Hernandez to stop wearing the tag that  revealed where she was on her school campus. The tags were introduced to track  students and help tighten control of school funding.
'Over 40,000  killed since start of Syria conflict'
More than 40,000 people  have been killed in 20 months of conflict between Syrian President Bashar  Assad's forces and those fighting for his overthrow, a violence monitoring group  said on Friday. Rami Abdelrahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human  Rights, said about half the fatalities were civilians and the other half split  about evenly between rebels and government soldiers.

In his  last blog entry, activist Sattar Beheshti wrote that Iranian authorities had  given him an ultimatum: Either stop posting his "big mouth" attacks against the  ruling system or tell his mother that she will soon be in mourning. Russia  criticizes Turkey's request for NATO missiles on Syrian  border
Moscow is criticizing Turkey's request to NATO for  missiles to defend against Syria's civil war spilling over the border, as  Russia's Foreign Ministry accused Turkey of "muscle flexing." "The  militarization of the Syrian-Turkish border is an alarming signal," spokesman  Alexander Lukashevich said. "We have different advice for our Turkish colleagues  -- use their influence with the Syrian opposition to accelerate the start of a  political dialogue."
1  killed, 9 wounded in Israeli gunfire near Gaza
Israeli troops  shot dead a Palestinian man and wounded nine along Gaza's border fence with  Israel on Friday, a Gaza health official said, reporting the first violence  since a truce between Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers took hold a day before.

Black  voters look to leverage their loyalty
When black voters gave  President Barack Obama 93 percent support on Election Day in defiance of  predictions that they might sit it out this year, black leaders breathed a  collective sigh of relief. That encouraged those leaders to try to leverage more  attention from both Obama and Congress. Although they waver over how much to  demand from the president — particularly in light of defeated GOP challenger  Mitt Romney's assertion that Obama gave "gifts" to minorities in exchange for  their votes — they are delivering postelection wish lists to the president  anyway.
Israel  says it arrests Tel Aviv bus bomber
Israeli authorities arrested  an Arab Israeli on Thursday on accusations he planted a bomb on a bus in Tel  Aviv that wounded 27 people and threatened to sabotage efforts to broker a  cease-fire to end the fighting in Gaza, police said.
