“Is Peace Possible?”
by Art Sadlier
July 10th, 2011

The world’s leaders realize that a great cataclysmic war is coming in the Mideast. As a result they are pressing for a peace treaty to head off the coming disaster. They understand that the Arab world is inflexible concerning Israel and that the only possibility of averting war is to pressure Israel to yield to the Arab demands.

We have, as a result, the world pressuring Israel to commit suicide by giving up the strategic territory needed to protect itself.

The truth is that the Palestinians have no claim to the area of Judea and Samaria. The truth is that prior to the War of Independence in 1948, there was no Palestinian state on that land. It was occupied by Jordan after the war of 1948 and they had no right to be there. The so-called West Bank was granted to Israel prior to 1948.

Israel has a host of sworn enemies committed to her destruction. Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, the Palestinians and Iran as well as the entire Muslim world are fanatically determined to remove Israel from the Mideast.

The present American administration’s betrayal of Israel has encouraged the whole world to increase their pressure on Israel in an effort to bring about her surrender to her enemies. The UN, the EU, and the Russians along with almost all the nations of the world are blindly set against Israel. Reason and facts and fairness are out the window as far as the world’s attitude to Israel is concerned.

It seems as if 2000 years of anti-Semitism has come to a climax in the present hour.

What can be done to help Israel? What is the real problem?

I suggest that Israel’s real problem is not Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinians, Syria or Iran. Israel’s real problem is not Obama, the UN, the EU or Russia. Israel’s real difficulty is not anti-Semitism or the unfairness of world toward her. These are difficulties for certain, but not Israel’s primary problem.

Israel’s primary obstacle is her God, Jehovah. Israel’s real problem is her unbelief and disobedience toward the Lord. Israel’s real dificulty is her Messiah whom she is still rejecting. It is the God of Israel who is sending all of her troubles and afflictions upon her. “My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.” (Hosea 9:17).

We dare not get between Israel and her God. We do Israel no favour to relieve her of the trials her God has sent upon her to restore her to Himself. Israel’s trials will only increase until she repents and returns to her Lord. That does not mean that we should fail to help Israel and the Jews in any way we can. It does not mean that we fail to pray for Israel and the Jews.

We are commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, however that prayer implies the return of Messiah who will bring peace to Israel and the world. There can be no real peace until the Prince of Peace returns to the world. Before that return, Israel must be brought to the place of repentance.

We read about that scenario in Zechariah 12:11-14,  "In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart; The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart; All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.”

It is God’s stated purpose to send His Son to bless Israel and the nations of the world through her. Before that can happen Israel must be severely chastened and judged. Out of that chastening of Israel will come Israel's repentance which will bring the blessing of God to Israel and the whole world.

We read about that result in Zechariah 13:8-9, “And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”

God hates sin and unbelief and rebellion. He will always judge it and destroy those who will not turn from it.

God is not finished with Israel. The fact is that we are now witnessing the hand of God on Israel as He moves to restore and bless her and the whole world through her.

We read about that event in Ezekiel 36:24-28, “For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.”

As the world seems to be crashing down all around us, remember God is still on the throne and He will remember His own. Psalm 11:3-4, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men."
