“Even Darker”
by Art Sadlier
January 30th, 2011

We have been declaring Israel's situation to be growing darker as the days go by. We are surprised to find that Israel's situation has taken a turn for the worse during the days of this week. The recent events in the Mideast are like an earthquake which has transformed Israel’s situation altogether.

Until recently Israel has had three peace partners in the Mideast. Turkey is no longer a peace partner with Israel, but has turned into a radical Islamic state, an enemy of Israel. If the present Egyptian government falls, as seems highly likely, Israel’s most valuable Mideast peace partner will become Israel’s greatest threat.

Egypt is the heart of the Arab Mideast; she has a modern army, the most powerful in the Arab Mideast. Egypt’s advanced army includes thousands of tanks, hundreds of fighter jets, and dozens of vessels.

At present Egypt has worked diligently to prevent the smuggling of arms into Gaza. If a radical Islamic group like the Muslim Brotherhood were to come to power in Egypt, as seems very likely, Israel would have the mighty Egyptian army on her southern border to assist Hamas to arm, and also be ready to attack Israel as well.

Add to that untenable situation the fact that Hezbollah has taken over the government of Lebanon and will throw open the doors for Iran to come into Lebanon in full force right on Israel’s northern border. A senior Israeli defence official admitted recently, “With its current assets, the IDF will currently find it very difficult to be able to deal with two live fronts at once.”

In another bad situation, unrest in Jordan threatens to turn an ally into another radical Islamic enemy on Israel’s eastern border. One former senior Mossad (Israeli) official said on Saturday that Israel needed to be more concerned with a potential revolution in Jordan. “In Egypt, Israel has Sinai as a major buffer zone,” the official said. “This is not the case in Jordan, where there is a massive Palestinian population that could directly threaten Israel through the West Bank.”

Another troubling scenario, is the fact that President Obama is withdrawing from the whole Mideast situation. It seems Israel can no longer depend on American help.

As the situation for Israel grows ever darker, we are conscious of the fact that God is working on Israel to bring her back to Himself. The whole end time biblical scenario clearly reveals that God is repeatedly putting Israel’s back to the wall. When Israel eventually comes to the end of her own resources, and when she finally realizes that she has nowhere and no one to turn to but God she will be in the place where God can bless her and bring her back to Himself.

It seems that it will take at least three more wars to accomplish this redemption of Israel. The first of these wars will be the war of Psalm 83 (also Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 36). This will probably be the next war for Israel, though not necessarily. Then will follow the war of Ezekiel 38 – 39, and finally the war of Armageddon.

In each of these wars God reveals His purpose as He delivers Israel against incredible odds and defeats her enemies. He uses different terminology, but the message is the same. Ezekiel 39:21-22, “And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.”

In Ezekiel 39:6-7 we read, “And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: (Russia and her Islamic allies) and they shall know that I am the LORD. So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.”

We read the final chapter in God’s dealings with Israel in Zechariah 13:8-9, “And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”
