“An Economic Earthquake is Shaking Europe”
by Art Sadlier
December 26th, 2010

For the prophecies of Daniel and John to be fulfilled concerning Europe, it would require a major change in the makeup of the EU. Daniel and John both clearly indicate that the Revived Roman Empire will be made up of ten kings or nations. Today there are 27 nations involved. The question has been for some time; "if we are on the threshold of the tribulation scenario, how will ten nations rise to the foreground and what will happen to the other nations of Europe?"

We really do not have a definitive answer to that question; however, we can see the potential for this transformation to take place. According to Daniel 7:24, the ten kings or nations will first arrive on the scene in Europe. At that point, Antichrist will appear and subdue three of those nations or kings, and will proceed to usurp authority over them. Daniel 7:24, “And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.”

Today in Europe, they are seemingly facing an economic earthquake and that earthquake has the potential to spawn a political earthquake. It seems that a number of European nations are on the verge of total financial collapse; what will happen to them? Will they be folded into the financially stronger nations? Perhaps they will be on the outside looking in at the surviving group of nations, which would number ten. I am going to present some news headlines and commentary that would seem to suggest the possibility of just such a scenario.

Caroline Glick has stated, “We are witnessing the slow motion collapse of the euro and of the European financial system. At this point, many analysts are convinced that a full-blown financial implosion in Europe has become inevitable.” She goes on to say, “Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France and Belgium are all drowning in an ocean of unsustainable debt. Meanwhile, Germany and the few other ‘healthy’ members of the EU continue to try to keep all of the balls in the air by bailing everyone out. But can Germany keep bailing the rest of the EU out indefinitely?”

Spain, Portugal, Italy and France have all entered crisis territory. At the same time, there are a whole host of nations in Eastern Europe that are also on the verge of financial collapse. So is there any hope that a major sovereign debt crisis can be averted at this point? Caroline Glick gives her answer, “One would like to think that there is always hope, but each month things just seem to keep getting worse. Confidence in European government debt continues to plummet.”

Professor Willem Buiter, the chief economist at Citibank, is warning that quite a few EU nations could financially collapse in the next few months if they are not quickly bailed out. German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared earlier this year that this is the biggest financial crisis that the EU has ever faced. Another commentator stated, “The current crisis facing the euro is the biggest test Europe has faced for decades, even since the Treaty of Rome was signed in 1957.”

Caroline Glick has stated, “So what is the answer? Well, many are speculating that the EU could actually break up over this whole thing, but another possibility is that we could eventually see much greater integration.” I would suggest that either of these two scenarios, or a combination of them, could quickly result in ten stronger nations arising in Europe.

In another quote out of this article we read, “So just how bad are things going to get in Europe? Well, earlier this year Anthony Fry, the senior managing director at Evercore Partners, had the following to say about the emerging bond crisis in Europe….I don’t want to scare anyone but I am considering investing in barbed wire and guns, things are not looking good and rates are heading higher.”

The point I am making, is that when the scriptures describe what will happen in the last days, those prophecies will be fulfilled. We do not have to help God out by devising a scenario in which His Word could be fulfilled. I am just presenting what the situation is at the present time. It is not hard to see in this present situation the potential for Daniel’s prophecy of ten kings to arise in Europe.

One of the amazing things about the hour in which we are now living, is the way in which long standing scenarios can dramatically change overnight. I keep going back to words of Luke 21:28, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” We are seeing the prophecies of Daniel and John beginning to come to pass. We would be foolish not recognise what the Lord is saying to us through these events.

To another generation Jesus gave a severe rebuke because they failed to recognize signs of His first coming.  Matthew 16:2-3, “He answered and said unto them, when it is evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”

Are you ready for the trumpet to sound? Now is the time to act, if you are not saved, now is the accepted time, tomorrow may be too late.
