“Palestinian Mortars Pound Southern Israel, 1 Wounded”
by Israel Today
December 9th, 2010

Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip fired a barrage of mortar shells into southern Israel on Wednesday night, damaging a home and wounding an Israeli man.

Israeli aircraft responded on Thursday by bombing a terrorist weapons facility in central Gaza and two terrorist installations in the northern part of the Hamas-ruled territory.

Wednesday’s attack drew media attention because a man was injured. But the local councils in the region issued a joint statement stressing that such attacks are taking place on a daily basis, but are being largely ignored due to the fact that the terrorist artillery mercifully misses most of the time.

“This is only the latest in a series of security incidents,” read the statement. “In recent weeks these incidents have risen greatly, and we are now being shelled on a near-daily basis.”

A delegation of nearly three dozen European parliamentarians visited Jerusalem during the Hannukah holiday earlier this week and acknowledged that Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 had been a mistake.

During a tour of a museum set up in Jerusalem to remember the thriving Jewish communities of Gaza that were forcefully uprooted, the Europeans said the so-called “disengagement” had been seen by the Muslim as a victory for terrorism and led directly to the electoral victory of Hamas and its takeover of the territory.

The Europeans came from Austria, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Britain and Sweden. The more prominent among them included Heinz-Christian Strache, head of the German Freedom Party; Filip Dewinter of Belgium’s Vlaams Belang party; MP Frank Creyelman, head of the Belgian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee; René Stadtkewitz, Chairman of Germany’s Freedom Party; and Claus Pandi, editor-in-chief of Krone Zeitung, Austria’s largest newspaper.

According to a search of online newspapers, their visit was completely ignored by all media except for Israel National News.
