“A Major War on the Horizon”
by Art Sadlier
February 5th, 2012

The Scriptures tell us of three end time wars that are yet to come. One is the war of Armageddon, which takes place at the climax of the tribulation period. The middle war is the war of Ezekiel 38-39, which takes place early in the tribulation period. The first war is the war described in Psalm 83 – Isaiah 17 – Ezekiel 35,36. Some of these passages have an historic fulfillment in Old Testament times, however like many Old Testament prophecies they also have a future fulfilment. The war of Psalm 83 takes place prior to the war of Ezekiel 38-39. It takes place prior to the Peace Treaty of Antichrist. Whether it takes place prior to the rapture we cannot tell, but it may well do so.

This war seems to be imminent . Many sources are saying that this coming war will be a cataclysmic war; a war that will change the world dramatically! The combatants of this war are named in Psalm 83:6-8, "The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah."

The Edomites are the present day Palestinians (according to a study by Jimmy DeYoung), the Ishmaelites are the Arabs, Ammon is Jordan, the Philistines dwelt in the Gaza and would represent the Hamas, the inhabitants of Tyre would represent the Hezbollah and Assur is Syria. Unlike the war of Ezekiel 38-39, these enemies of Israel are made up of those who are within Israel or on Israel’s borders. Israel's enemies in the war of Ezekiel 38-39 are those well beyond Israel's borders.

The attitude of these enemies of Israel is found in several places. First is Psalm 83:12, "Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession." That is happening right now in this very hour as the Palestinians are claiming the Temple mount as their own. We see it also in Ezekiel 36:2, "Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places (temple mount) are ours in possession.

In Ezekiel 35:5 we hear God give the reasons why He is going to destroy the Palestinians, "Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end." In this verse we have the present attitude of the Edom (the Palestinians) toward Israel. Verse 6 expands on the shedding of the blood of Israel by the Palestinians, "Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee." Verse 10 also describes exactly what is happening in Israel today, the land of Judah and Israel is being claimed by the Palestinians, "Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there." This is unique to this very hour in history.

Ezekiel 36:5 we see the anger of God against the Palestinians for appointing “my land” into their possession, "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey."  In each of these scriptures we see (in this coming war) that the adversaries of Israel will be made desolate.  Remember in each of Israel’s past three major wars since being restored as a nation, God has divinely intervened and given them victory in the face of seeming certain defeat. As these wars progress the destruction of Israel's enemies will increase.

Today there can be no peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians; the Palestinians including Hamas and Hezbollah do not want peace with Israel. If Israel agreed to give them what they want, it would be the end of the State of Israel. They want to eliminate Israel; not live with her, they have made that clear to all who would listen. The question is then, how will the peace treaty the Bible describes ever be attained?

The answer, I believe, is found in the outcome of this soon coming war. The Scriptures we looked at make it clear that the Palestinians along with Hamas, Hezbollah, and Syria will be decimated by Israel as God again intervenes to give Israel a tremendous victory in this coming war. The resistance of the aforementioned groups will be dissipated, allowing the Antichrist to bring about his false peace and to allow Israel to take control of the Temple Mount and to rebuild the Temple.

We seem to be standing on the brink of the war of Psalm 83 which I believe will begin the final countdown to the appearance of the beast and the peace treaty which will initiate the tribulation period.

Are you ready? Are you saved? Now is the time to come to Christ in repentance and faith.
